The new SoG?

Wow! You really DO have to be looking! Never even noticed that said anything. Thanks! :D

While I feel badly for those who had ressys and were very much looking forward to staying in the redone hotel (you can always cancel and rebook!!), I'm giggling incessantly. You'll have to excuse it. Part of the "if you only knew" why this just makes me laugh.

I'm just dying to know the reason behind all that giggling! I won't be making my ressies until the middle of August, but if there is something I should know regarding a super deal through SoG or an overflow rate extravaganza or something that would entice me to book earlier or later I would sure like to know!

I plan on going Aug. 15-23, 2004, but those dates are not set in stone until I make the ressies. So, please, please, PLEASE let me in on the secret!!! Feel free to PM me....I promise I can keep a secret!

Here's the little bit I found out: My source does not know why (well, really, I think we all know why!!) they decided to wait until Mar. Source said when it went into work the other day, there was a big sign on the bulletin board stating: "Due to unforseen circumstances, the hotel will not reopen until Mar 04." (Unforseen? Guess a lot of people over there have simple math problems!!) Source mentioned it will try to find out more info when it goes to work again. As for the afore mentioned penalties, source said it may have been a misunderstanding. Source isn't sure if the penalties are with Disney OR the construction company. If I understood correctly, notices should have been mailed started this past Tues. Oh, and did I mention all of this took place while the resv manager was on vacation? They way I hear it, she was not aware of what was going to happen, but I could have misunderstood (not very nice of management if she was not told!). I was told the hotel was not sold out, except for Xmas time. Again, with the math, new hotel had almost 600 rooms. CR has slightly less than 300 (a few rooms were used as offices). There's no way on this little blue orb that Disney is going to allow the extra (approx) 300 rooms to go into their deluxe resorts during THE busiest time of the year for such a cheap rate. So, what's going to happen to the guests????? Before I ever left SoG, I suggested (as you could see then the hotel would probably not open on time) that when they were ready to start booking, they should only book for the same amount of rooms the original hotel had. Reason? Well, if there was a problem and they couldn't reopen on time, at least they would still be able to move every one into the CR. Yet again, they did not listen to common sense and I think they're going to piss off a LOT of people. But, I'll wait and see what the source can dredge up for me. I should have some more info for every one around the beginning of next week.

And for the other poster, no, I'm not sharing <g>. Too many stupid and duh! things to share in a posting. :)

Just thought I would pass this on to everyone...just got off the phone with SoG. I wanted to know what would happen to us vacationers who had reservations between Dec and Feb when we thought we were staying there. A letter will be going out giving us a choice in hotels. Just thought I would pass it on...

That's really sad but I don't think there will be 300 guests who they need to find rooms for - I'm going to guess that some of those folks booked simply to be the first to stay in the "new" hotel and when they are notified it is not opening yet they will move their reservation to the new dates. There will still be a lot of pissed off people though especially if when they took the reservations they didn't warn them that this was possibility. Thanks for the update.

It may not be so difficult for WDW to accomodate SoG afterall. According to my SIL an accountant at the Marriott Corp., WDW profits are down 20% this year. Maybe that is why they are having the FTP incentives, etc. Any way if the profit margin is off by that much they may have the rooms to accomodate the SoG people. Better than empty rooms.

I'm sure Disney wouldn't have a problem accommodating all of those guests either, however I do question whether they'd have enough DELUXE rooms to accommodate them AND if Disney is willing to take $100/nt instead of $350. Xmas season is THE busiest time of the year and while this area still hasn't come out of the slump it was in prior to 9/11, that season usually helps make the year look better. I'm not so certain Disney will be willing to only take 1/3, or less, of the normal cost of a deluxe room. Then again, as you mentioned, they may be hurting so bad that they decide it's better to have full rooms at a fraction of the cost than taking a chance on empty ones. It will be interesting to see how Disney decides to proceed due to SoG's inability to count. :)
