What is the first thing you do after checking in at the Polynesian? We'll be there for the first time 2 weeks from today!!! My sister says getting a dole whip is tops on her list. Just curious as to what you "poly pros" usually do!

Dump our stuff in the room (or leave with bell services...) and jump on the monorail to the MK. That is our #1 way to say "we've arrived!" Did it as kids, did it as a grownup. Well, kind of a grown up. Maybe... Even if all we manage to do is get on the train and ride around to see the sights, it is the culmination of 1400 miles of driving! But the Dole Whip would be a close second!

Ok Luvamouse, we are neighbors as I live in MA right over the RI border. Did you say it takes 14000 miles to WDW???

We have never driven it, have only flown but I have thought of driving, thinking it might be kind of neat to drive down the coast

Is it all its cracked up to be or a ride from "you know where"??

Last year we dropped our things in our room and headed straight to Epcot to ride Soarin'. Unfortunately it was the last day of F&W Festival so Epcot was packed (and extra long lines at Soarin') so we headed back to the Poly to explore a bit and go for a swim.

This year (SUNDAY!! only 3 more days!! ) we are planning on exploring the resort a bit (this will be my parent's first time at the Poly) and then dinner reservations at Kona. We should be done eating and still have plenty of time to unpack, watch EWP and Wishes from the beach.

I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

We drop our stuff off in the room (if our room isn't ready then we leave our bags with Bell Services) grab something to eat at Captain Cooks then hop on the monorail to the MK. We usually get our Dole Whips then. I've tried sooo many times to go swimming after we get there but DD8 would have a bird if we didn't go to the MK right after eating.

Is it safe to leave clothes in the machines in the laundy room and take a stroll around the resort/go swimming????
3 days and counting, I know we're gonna forget something!!!

It's been several years since I needed to do a load of wash at the Polynesian but as I recall there is a sign by the machines advising how long a load takes to wash. Same for dryers.

I don't think there's any red juice in the Polynesian version? Fruit though. Something that makes it sweet and sour at the same time although I don't know if it's sweet and sour mix. The mai tais I've had at two other WDW resorts probably did have a pinkish cast...like weak pink lemonade. Seriously, they were so bad I poured them out.

It's been a long tradition that my DH brings me a Mai Tai at least once during our trips. Ahh.

LuvMySoldier, I do think the versions without alcohol would be just as good and probably a great idea.

Now I think DH and I needs some too - drinks on the beach while watching Wishes..aaahhhhh....

Aghhhh my dad today asked if I could try my best to book us a room with a balcony, with some sort of water view. And I have a garden view booked.

I'm thinking a bit closer to our trip, I'll call and request a room with a balcony. I know that he would LOVE a balcony and him and my mom are celebrating an anniversary this trip, so I have my fingers crossed for them! I'm sure as long as he has some sort of balcony at the Poly he'll be happy.

Mmmmmmmm I just can't wait for my first bite of Tonga Toast!!!

On our last trip I asked for a 1st floor room for my Dad - he was using an ECV and we wanted to avoid the elevators. I noted he usually did not go to the parks for very long and I mentioned he likes to sit on the balcony/patio and read. It was our only request. Ended up with a room with neither! I said we would wait for a room with a patio/balcony but and they could not move us for several days (and by then it wasn't worth moving). Hope you can get your request!

Hi Lilmattie,

I think you added an extra "0" to my mileage It's fourteen hundred each way. It takes us about 22 hours of "seat time", and we try to keep stops to a few "pee and flees" and one or two gas/McD or BK for kids/potty breaks each day. (Well, yeah, ay 18 mpg, we need at least 2 gas stops anyway...) I have to say we really do enjoy the drive. I love to see the country, and we take the 81-77-26-95 truck route that keeps us off rte 95 and out of traffic.

I have a Yukon XL with a DVD player, so my girls can sit apart and watch movies on the ride. It's all they know... they've never flown. We leave southern RI (only 3 exits from CT) at 5 a.m. and can be in NC by 7 p.m. (825 miles). I guess it was about 10 hours NC to WDW for the second shot. (We always branch off to sightsee at least 1 spot!) We don't like to drive straight through on the ride down, but coming home, we go with the flow... Also, each day gets at least one stop where we take at least a 45 minute break to stretch, breath, clean junk out of the truck from the previous x00 miles... No matter if it is to WDW or the mid-west, on trips over 1000 miles, including stops, we average 60 mph. Guess we stop pretty routinely in frequency and length of time... If you ever want to explore the drive, feel free to pm me or go to the Transportaion Board where there is a "For those folks driving" thread.

My girls are all excited to pull up to the Poly gates again...they just don't know it's THIS April!

We were booked to stay at Saratoga Springs in January, but we took a vote at home and my DD's 12 & 8 & I decided we needed to go back to the Poly! My husband didn't vote because he knows better.

Me too! Heck, part of the reason that we're waiting two years is that it will take us that long to save for the Poly, and I really really really want to stay in a Magic Kingdom view next time.

And eat dinner at Ohana's again.

Just thought I'd post a heads-up over here that there is a major code watch happening on the Codes board. The time frame is through June 27, 2009! General consensus is it's a 7 days for the price of four deal again--that would be 4 days paid hotel/tickets, 3 days free. There's also a $200 gift card involved for stays earlier in the year (through March, I think). There may be more, but this is all that has been sussed out so far. . .

The release time is supposed to be today at 5:00 p.m. for booking. . .all of this, minus the specifics, is on Mousesavers.

If you are like me, I would never have been looking for a code or deal this early. The only drag is it's a package deal--creates certain problems for us AP people, but could be a deal for some us--looks better for the deluxes than anything else.

Just thought I'd pass it on since I haven't seen anything on our page for it!

Yeah, I just saw this and e-mailed my TA. I'd already planned to go back to WDW in June so if the numbers work out, there may be a return trip to the Poly next year.
