The *NEW* Polynesian Resort FAQ thread - *SEPT 2008*

When do you find out your room number and building you'll be in?

When you check in IF the room is available then. If you check in early and it's not available, they'll give you a number you can call to find out if it's ready and what the room number is.

Does the Polynesian Resort have a hot tub by the swimming pool?

No hot tub at the Poly (it's only downfall that I can see!). There is a jetted area with seats IN the pool, but the water temp is the same as the rest of the pool.

Just wondering if anyone knows if the Poly has sweet tea (non-lemon) as an option at the refillable mug drink station? Being from the south some in my family are big sweet tea drinkers, but I've noticed before regular (non-flavored) sweet tea is hard to come by at Disney. Here's hoping it will be available at the Poly. Anyone know for sure?

Great thread! :goodvibes I haven't even gotten through the whole first page yet, but I can see there is some great info here!

We are considering staying at the Poly next year. Now I need to get busy learning all there is to know! :surfweb:

Welcome and yes, there's LOTS of great info on this thread ~ and lots to learn. Many here return to the Poly again and again :beach: It's a magical place!

When are you considering going?

Called today and got my room requests added!! I had them on when I made my original ressie through AAA, but I cancelled that when the 4/3 deal came out and booked my own online. I finally called today and got someone who was SUPER sweet! And she sent me another email confirmation with my requests listed!!!!!!! That is so reassuring. I asked for ground floor first - and she listed that as "special request" not sure if it matters or not, but it looks nice, LOL. Then Tokealu and east side are my other requests - which are clearly marked req. only, no guarntee. i know they're all just requests, but it was so nice to see them right there on the screen with all my other info.

Oh, and this is WEIRD - she asked if my last trip was 1991. Well, no, we went in 2007. However prior to that, 1991 was my last trip to the World (Land in 1992) BUT I was only 14 back then - with my maiden name, of course. My parents clearly paid for it, I wonder how it even shows up under my name! And strange that that would, but not our 2007 trip - but maybe that's b/c we booked AAA in '07?

I'm sure this has been asked before, but there are a lot of threads to go through so, can you Poly gurus tell me if I can buy a 1/2 gallon of milk at the Poly? I know at the resorts with DVC's they have milk available, but I'm not sure about the others.

Thanks!!!

Thanks for the welcome! :goodvibes

Well we are looking at possibly the end of Jan/beginning of Feb. 2010. So I guess right about a year from now!

We just got back from our 4th trip last Tuesday. We have always stayed at the moderates and they have everything we need. We especially love the lush tropical feel of CBR. But the Poly is one of those places where we have always said - "we are going to stay there. . . someday"! And we have visited it on the last 3 trips and this time as we got off the monorail at the Poly I just looked at DH and said - let's just do it next time!

So, hopefully if all goes well next year will be the year! pixiedust:

Now I just need to read up and see which longhouse/s would be best for us and learn all there is to know about the Poly!

You will NOT be sorry...Poly is the only place we stay now and we love it...:thumbsup2

thanks :flower3:

I have a question re: photo pass? wasn't sure were to post this but have any of you used this service? like it, love it or just so-so? thanks again.

We use photo pass on every trip. It doesn't cost anything unless you choose to purchase photos &/or CD's of the pix.

The folks are nice & do a fair job on photos. One thing to remember, if you ask they will also take a photo w/your camera for you too.

Honestly their have been trips when we got home & didn't want any of the pix, and other times we've bought numerous items from the website. The website is nice in that it lets you add boarders, captions, etc. It also has some basics, like red eye & crop.

For us it is a must-do since it is just DH & I sometimes those are the only photos we get w/both of us in the pix. Most the time it is me taking his pix or vice-versa.

I would say take your own camera, but also use the photo pass -- can't hurt & who knows, maybe they will get a few good shots for you.

I reserved a Polynesian Garden View using DVC points (360! + $95 fee!) because there was no DVC availabilty for upcoming President's Day WE.

They told me during booking that Fridge & Coffee Pots had to be requested but some posts seem to suggest the fridge & coffee pots are in the room. Should I call to specifically request each? We are coming from DVC condo-like rooms and DH is very sceptical of Polnesian being "just a standard room". We like cereal, milk, OJ, yogurt for mornings and coffee to be very convenient.

Thanks, still researching if I should request a certain loghouse......................

WEIRD!
Fridge and coffee pots are standard. No worries!
You are going to have a GREAT time at the Polynesian :cloud9:

They were very very wrong when they told you that.

Fridges are standard. If you request one, that request would simply be ignored, since the room assigner knows that every room has those as standard equipment.

Hi all!

What is the best way to get to Ak and Hs from the Poly? Are there buses at the TTC or in front of the hotel?

Also, when/to whom do we make our room/building request? We put a deposit down for the trip but the balance is not due until April 1.

Thank you!

No sweet tea at the Poly. I am a serious sweet tea addict (southern family here as well) so if they would have had it at the Poly I would have been all over it. :thumbsup2

You can buy 1/2 gallon of milk at Samoa Snacks located on the top level of the GCH. I believe you can also get a 1/2 gallon at Captain Cooks--at least a quart for sure. :thumbsup2

Hi all!

If you have a rental car I HIGHLY suggest driving it to the AK and/or HS. If not, you can catch the bus at the TTC much faster than from the Poly. The bus from the Poly has to stop also at the GF and may have stopped at the Contemporary prior to arrival. :thumbsup2

Also, when/to whom do we make our room/building request? We put a deposit down for the trip but the balance is not due until April 1. Thank you!

You can make your building request at any time 5 days before your arrival and have it noted on your reservation. I usualy have my TA do this but if you booked directly with Disney you can call them and have it noted on your reservation. :thumbsup2

does anyone know how long the Luau lasts? DBF and I are trying to decide if the 8pm show would be good to get out in time for Wishes and the EWP on the beach.

thanks!

Finkerfell, I agree with Msstinkerbelle, rent a car if your not driving down. The buses to HS, AK, and DD can be a very long wait and I just like the convenience of having our own car. It's also good for picking up supplies like beer and bottled water. Wow you are in the town next to me.

We always rent a car. It's nice to stop and buy water and other supplies while have the freedom to drive to AK, HS & DD.

You can usually find good car rental deals on the web.

As johnsonet and cleverocks said, there are refrigerators and coffee pots in all Polynesian rooms these days. However, they aren't the same as the ones in villas. The coffee pots are little 4 cup things and the refrigerator is smaller than in a studio and much smaller than a one or 2 BR...also no freezer.

Can you catch a bus to anywhere (parks & resorts) from the TTC? Or just the parks?

The TTC has buses to DHS and DAK, monorail service to Epcot and MK and ferries to the MK. No buses to hotels there. You will need to go to a park to transfer to a hotel bus (other than the monorail hotels of course).

We're another family that normally drives to DAK and DHS.

You would miss the Electrical Water Pageant as it starts at 9pm. You can probably see it sideways from the Luau but I'm not sure. It's been years since we've gone to the Luau and we were never at the later one....just Minnie's early one that is long gone.

Show times for Wishes varies.
