I have also seen many people smoking around the pool bar deck area although some have said they were not permitted to smoke there. Guess it is up to the bartender on duty???? :confused3 The volcano pool smoking area is kind of hidden. It's on the upper deck area and surrounded by vegetation.

All of that being said, we witnessed many people smoking in the tiki huts around the quiet pool as well and no one bothered them, including CMs.

Just information folks, do not shoot the messenger. :wizard:

I didn't notice it too much until we'd pass someone atthe pool tables and then smell it. But that didn't happen too often.

Did walk behind an eldery couple couple smoking as they walked the winding paths. We just turned as soon as we could and walked a different way.

Just booked this morning for our honeymoon!! Got a AAA rate of 301.75 a night plus tax for July 19-24th. I am sooo excited! Haven't stayed at Poly since 1994 when I was 13 years old. Woo Hoo! :cool1:

CONGRATULATIONS :cool1:
You are going to love it :lovestruc

Re. smoking, I was told a few years ago at the BC that smoking is allowed around the pools and that there are no rules re. it. Not sure if tis is still the case but I was very surprised.

oh lets keep this beautiful nice! I for one love this thread and look forward to reading the new posts everyday!!

I guess I misunderstood when it was said that the Poly was a no smoking resort that they meant smoking wasn't allowed on property at all

*sigh*

I am so upset about this. I don't want to tell other people what to do, but I also don't want to sit and be subjected to the toxic smoke. I especially don't want my children breathing it in.

Hey, do what you gotta do, but don't make me sick too....

There is no resort that is completely smoke free. I believe they are talking about people not being allowed to smoke in their rooms. You are going to find smokers where ever you go in life. I don't smoke by my hubby does. He follows the rules and only smokes in designated area at the resort and parks. Believe it or not smokers have right as well as anyone else. I don't like answering to these types of posts because nothing good comes out of it. I can understand your view as everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I love this thread and will be staying at the Poly Thanksgiving 09.

You mention in your post sitting and being around the toxic smoke. Why would you sit near anyone that is smoking then? Try and avoid it much as possible.

Hi, All! I just booked the Polynesian for next August! A long time away, but it will be fun planning! Last time we stayed at the Polynesian was about 7 years ago! I'm so excited to go back again. I hear the rooms were recently renovated as well!

Yippee!!

:yay:

Lisa

Keep in mind that the rooms are non-smoking but that does not mean people don't smoke in them :sad2: I had a room at the Poly over Spring Break that had DEFINITELY been smoked in.
You are also not allowed to smoke on the balconies but people do it ALL the time.

Congrats! What a beautiful way to start your marriage!

Don't forget to wear your bride and groom Mickey ears!

I do want to keep this thread nice... I didn't want to start a discussion...I was just sharing my feelings and that I misunderstood the policy...

If I misunderstood it, maybe someonelse did also and now they know...

Iam in the same situation as you are.. my DH smokes (only cigars) I do NOT. He always follows the rules about designated areas.:thumbsup2 Smokers do have rights and it is a very touchy subject everywhere..I love this thread..it has been so helpful to me:)

I'm not the PP, but I took the post to mean that they were concerned that someone might be smoking at the pool rather than in a designated area. Of course non-smokers should avoid the designated areas.

I know this is a touchy subject and of course everyone has rights. However, not many smokers are allergic/have bad physical reactions to clean air :rolleyes1 but lots of us non-smokers cannot be around smoke without a serious problem. That's the difference and why so many people get upset about smokers not following the rules.

How 'bout that Tonga toast?:rotfl:

You are very welcome! :goodvibes Glad I could help. One of these days I'm going to get all of my Poly photos in the same place.

You're very welcome! :goodvibes While its super-crowded, we'd rather be nowhere else at Christmas. I've done Disney countless times during the summer so it's a special treat to see how the place is transformed for the holidays. Definitely worth considering for Christmas 2009! :thumbsup2

I haven't been at the Poly during love bug season but I do know they keep the grounds very clean. There will probably still be a few 'nuisance' love bugs but from what I hear they do a good job of keeping them under control. :thumbsup2

So how crowded is super crowded? :) I am thinkg of a trip Dec 26-Jan1, 2009
Thanks Again!

How 'bout that Tonga toast? :rotfl:

Mmmmmmm, Tonga Toast! :cloud9: :cloud9: Best....sugar...rush...evah! Last time I had this at Kona Cafe I took a picture of it with my camera phone and sent it to my friends. They were beyond envious.

Well...it's even more crowded than the summertime. Seriously. :scared1: The parks are really packed (the MK feels that way the most) but the resorts like the Poly are an oasis away. :cloud9: We spend our time enjoying the resort and the decorations and exploiting the evening EMH as much as possible. It's a crazy fun time for us. :thumbsup2

No problem. I wish my hubby would stop smoking. I guess you can't teach a old dog new tricks- ha!!

I am sorry everyone and I am not even the smoker in the family- ha!! Let's talk about Tonga Toast- I have never had it, how is it?? Is it like french toast??

It blows french toast away IMO. ;)

Picture if you will, two thick pieces of sourdough bread stuffed with bananas. Then picture them smashed together and dropped in oil to be deep fried (or grilled if you're trying to be healthy but frankly I think that's a waste). It's brought out of that deep fried oil bath and rolled in cinnamon sugar then brought to your table along with syrup. :lovestruc

One bite and you'll need an insulin shot but man, the experience is incredible! :lmao:

If you look at the top of the Resorts Board there is a "sticky" thread that has maps of all the resorts with the DSA's . It's titled WDW Resorts Smoke Free/With Maps

Thanks so much! I found it and appreciate the info.

Hello everyone, been lurking here quite awhile getting wonderful information from all of ya'll. We are finally getting ready for our first stay at the Poly this Sat. We could not be more excited!! Hope to let everyone know how we liked it when we return. We don't have park tickets for Sat., so we will go to DD for the afternoon and start bright and early Sun morn with CP reservations at 8:05. Everyone send pixie dust our way and pray for a most magical time. Thanks again, Alisa

Gosh - I have to say this is the nicest, most tolerant group :cloud9: On certain other threads there are people that actually ENJOY fighting and arguing but here you seem to try and avoid it and change the subject to something friendly. VERY civilized :thumbsup2

lustergirl Tonga Toast is yummy. It is sort of fried french toast stuffed with bananas and covered in crystally sugar on the outside :lovestruc

OMG that pix of the Tonga Toast is making me salivate! :rotfl:
Personally, I think I'll load some butter on top and skip the syrup. (Heck it's already sugary enough, right...so I'll add some more fat to it instead of sugar! :lmao:

RE: Smoking - I am not a smoker nor is DH but I have found that MOST places, people who DO smoke tend to be very aware of kids and usually will move away if they see a kid coming. That's been my experience, when I've been on vacations with kids.

OK so back to food.....someone show me a pix of those sticky wings! Are they to DIE for??? And someone show me some pix of Ohana's dinner!! mmmmmmmmmMMMMMmmmm I'm getting hungry!
