I do have one question...what exactly is a Dole Whip? Is it something you can only get at the Poly?
A Dole Whip is what you could call a type of Yogurt which comes in Pineapple or Vanilla. Besides Captin Cook's I know it's also available at the Magic Kingdom, I just can't remember the exact location.

totally love this thread! I've stayed at the POLY many many times, If I could afford to i would stay every trip. I at least visit the resort every trip and get some Kona Coffee and eat at Ohana's and or Kona! Sit on the beach with a PinacoLava and enjoy the fire works!

You get it in a little area right as you walk into adventure land it's to the right kinda by the swiss family robinson tree house, as you cross into adventure land over that wooden bride by crystal palace. Dole whip is my all time favorite!

Is the Dole Whip a drink, frozen yogurt or more like regular dairy yogurt? And speaking of drinks, what are everyone's favorite 'adult' drinks at the Poly? I saw pictures of the drinks that SeaSpray posted that come in pinapples and they look delicious! I'm looking forward to trying something tropical. Do they serve alcoholic drinks poolside?

Dole Whip is actually almost-100% dairy-free, it's the same consistency as soft-serve ice cream, but not as "creamy" as ice cream can be. It's very refreshing on a hot day :)

They do serve alcoholic drinks pool-side at the Barefoot Bar :) That's where we get the Pina CoLavas from. :cool2:

Yes, there is a poolside bar and you can get pretty much anything you might want there. I strongly recommend the pinacolava.
I hope you'll raise your glass to me to bring me patience while waiting for my Sept. Poly trip
I have stayed there 5 times. Always in the Hawaii building. I was so spoiled there that I can't imagine staying anywhere else. But my last trip was in 2002 and I have yet to stay in the refurbished rooms. I'm sooo looking forward to it!
I can't believe it took me this long to discover this site. I think it's wonderful. I applaud and thank everyone for being so nice and sharing their experiences.:cool1:

PS. I'm not sure if the quote above is accurate, but I know it's close and the meaning is the same

Love the vader in your siggy!

Thank you! I'm a big fan :3dglasses (My husband really does refer to me as Lord Vader!)

For those who have attended the luau, there are three different types of reservations, certain tables that you can reserve. Are the seats up front - catagory 1 - that much better than catagory two or three?

Also, I saw a pic of a pineapple with a drink in it....can you get any drink inside or just a specific drink? I love Pina Coladas and Strawberry Daquiries - I guess I'll be trying the Pina CoLAVA ::yes::

Thanks :goodvibes

Every time we've gone to Disney (at least for the last few years when I've been old enough to order a drink), we have cool weather. Now, I realize we go off season, and the weather in Nov/Jan/Feb is iffy at best. But, really, is one 70+ degree day too much to ask so that I can sit at the Poly pool and enjoy one of these yummy drinks in a tropical-ish setting?!

I just never seem to think of going to the pool bar when the weather is chilly, regardless of which resort I'm at. This thread has changed my vacation planning ... this January, even if I'm wearing a sweater and sitting under several layers of pool towels for warmth, I am getting one of those pineapple drinks!

Hi all,

I have stayed at the Polynesian 3 times in a row, and LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! There's just something about the atmosphere there that makes me smile so brightly.

I was just wondering if anyone has a specific longhouse they prefer to stay in.

I also would like that. I just can't stretch my budget for the Lagoon View, which I really want, so I have a Garden View booked.

But I would love to know which long house provides the best Garden View...I am looking for one with a very tropical view...not necessarily close to transportation or Great Ceremonial House. Its all about the view. :)

Hi there,
The only two longhouses that we've stayed in were: Tahiti and Fiji. Both were really great and had really lovely views, however I do prefer Tahiti. The reason for this is because it is not too close to the GCH or the volcano pools. It's a very nice walk to both, and the views are LOVELY. The beach outside the longhouse is amazing because you can see Space Mountain, the ferries leaving for and coming back from the MK. You can also see the nighttime fireworks and sometimes even hear some music coming from the park.

I love it there, and I would 100% most definatly stay there again (if we had the choice...)
