This is just the answer I want to hear after upgrading from POR to the Poly. We have 4 children, including one in a wheelchair, and the bus issue was giving me a lot of anxiety. I decided to go ahead and upgrade as part of our 15th anniversary celebration. Thanks for the reassurance that our family will benefit greatly from the switch!

You're very welcome! :thumbsup2 It is much easier for your party to get around via monorail if one of you is using a wheelchair. Plus, the monorail comes by very frequently and there is a CM there who can tell you when the next one will be around.

For those of you who have stayed at the Poly before.....I'm thinking of having a surprise waiting in the room for our kids upon check-in. I don't really care for the DisneyFlorist offerings. Does anyone have any ideas.....toys from the resort, etc. that I can request to have in our room when we check in?

We did this in December. We stayed concierge so I got them to take care of everything for me. If you are not staying concierge I'm not sure who to talk to but I'm sure it can be done. We had a plush Mickey, Donald, and Goofy waiting on my son for his birthday. Maybe someone else on the boards will know who to talk to.

I am wondering if there is an annoying amount of sand in the rooms on the first floor of the Hawaii building, seeing as how the beach is right there.

Does housekeeping take care of the sand, or is it constantly in the rug?

I've never noticed any sand when entering or exiting the Hawaii building. The beach is right in front of the Hawaii building, but there's a large grassy area between the building and the sand.

Thanks. We are also staying concierge but when I asked IPO, they just directed me to DisneyFlorist. I would have thought they'd have suggestions of things from the gift shops in the resort or something?

I asked the Poly concierge CMs if they could buy and deliver pins on my dds pillows each evening at turndown and they agreed.

Is there a toaster at Captain Cooks that you could use even if you don't buy anything? I know how tacky that sounds, but we saved a ton of money on breakfasts in the past by bringing our own bagels for breakfast. It's just so much better if they're toasted. At the Pop Food court, toasters are everywhere so it wasn't a problem...

Yes there are toasters at Captin Cook's and I am sure no one would even notice where you got the bagels from, so you should have no problems doing that. Besides since your staying at the Polynesian where is the harm because it will cost you more for the room, then it would for the bagles.

Okay, now I have a question. :goodvibes

Has anyone had flowers delivered to the Poly for use in your room? I'm not too impressed with what the Disney Florist has as I prefer orchids. I'm thinking of using a local florist instead.

TIA!

Just wanted to say what a wonderful thread this is and because of all the positive reviews and Tiki Mans and the Browns web site I have decided to give the Polynesian a try and can't wait. IPO has been great with helping me to plan our trip in May.

I LIKE the pin idea!!! Thanks.

ALSO , does anyone remember what Polynesian specific things are in the hotel gift shops?.....some trinkets for the kids specific to the Poly. I know they have Lilo and Stitch plushes, Poly beach towels, etc. Can you guys think of anything else 2 young girls and a 1st grade boy might like?

ITA. We used the toaster and the microwave in Captain Cook's to reheat things like sandwiches from Earl of Sandwich, etc. :)

That's something we once did at the Contemporary when the Food & Fun Center was open. Plus we were also reheating sandwiches from the Earl of Sandwich.

I don't remember seeing any child-sized Poly merchandise. I know they had a lot of beach toys. For young girls they do sell lei neckaces and ponytail holders. Can't remember much for boys aside from Stitch shirts.

We had breakfast at Kona today. Fantastic as always. Love it for all three meals. We saw Gary who's been there for so many years (20 plus I think) and is a fantastic server. Part of the O'hana of the Polynesian for us. Theresa was our server and she's great too.

Anyway, I checked out the Dole Whip situation. Both the pineapple and vanilla Dole Whips had the DDP symbol next to them so both are snack options on DDP.
