I just booked the Poly, 2 Garden View Concierge rooms, for May 2009! :woohoo: :cool1:  :dance3:

It will be our first trip as a "family". Our boys will be 3 and 4. Our older son is autistic and LOVES monorails (he loves the one at Disneyland, at least), so I know he is going to love staying here. DH is currently deployed to Iraq until Feb 2009, so this will be our big "welcome home" trip.

I can't wait.

Now, off to find some way to pass time for the next 14 months...does anyone have any ideas?

Congratulations!!!

Hey everyone! This is a great thread; good info for us first time Poly visitors. Only 2 months & 2 weeks before we go! Let's keep this thread going!

I finally was able to access Tikiman's website and saw a layout of the longhouses and noticed Tuvalu and Fiji seem to have a body of water right next to them. Do you have to walk all the way around to get to the main pool, or is there some kind of walkway? If you do have to walk around, is it far to get from, say Tuvalu, to the GCH or the main pool? It appears that you might get some nice garden views of the water in these longhouses, is that correct? I can only afford garden view but would love a view (even partial) of the water if possible :)

Congratulations on booking! That's always an exciting thing. I love when I have a WDW trip booked! :woohoo: :yay:

According to your countdown and mine, it looks like we'll be at the Polynesian around the same time! :sunny:

You do have to walk around the marina from those longhouses, to get to the volcano pool. I don't think it's a far walk at all to get to the GCH, and I think that the short walk would be worth it for the potential great views you'd get from a garden view room. :3dglasses

Congratulations and boy are you ever so lucky!! It's horrible in Canada today (I need a WDW Escape Button).

It's thundering here and monsooning rain! :umbrella: Thoughts of the WDW and the Polynesian are keeping me going though! LOL Hang in there!! LOL :sunny:

OMG, You're going to LOVE IT THERE! :yay: Of all our stays in WDW to date, Poly concierge is definitely our fave. Lurking here on the Dis helps pass the time and feed the addiction! :rotfl: Thanks to your DH and your family for your dedication to our country.

I originally posted this on its own thread, but thought I would give you Poly experts a try!:goodvibes

Does anyone have any pics of the different available boats? I can not seem to find any other than the sea raycers.

Just read about the rental plans: Family and Captain plans. Can anyone share their experiences? Was there any problem with availability of boats?

Four hours of rental time for bikes/boats seems adequate to me. Any thoughts about this and the unlimited plan?

We will be staying at the Poly.
Thanks!
Pam

No pictures but we have done the unlimited plan in the past. It was a great deal and we never had any problem with availability.

But are you sure it's being offered. It's been several years since we've done it and the last I checked it wasn't offered. Haven't even checked in a while though so maybe it's been reinstated. Even when it was offered, it seemed to be offered only at certain times.

brergnat, happy planning! You're going to love the Polynesian. And let me add my thanks to your husband and your whole family!

Are there any pictures of the doors/windows being decorated at the Poly rooms? I was wondering if all the rooms have either a balcony or patio also? I would like to do some decorating and want some ideas from the Poly People!:goodvibes

All first floor rooms have patios. All third floor rooms have balconies. Only rooms in Tokelau, Tahiti and Rapa Nui have balconies on the second floor but that's almost 40% of the second floor rooms. Those without balconies still have huge sliding glass doors that open to a railing.

I've never noticed windows or doors decorated. The incredible views seem to be enough decoration for most people I guess. Well, I take that back. I remember seeing one room that had Christmas lights on their balcony one year.

Happy planning and decorating!:goodvibes

Hi! I wanted to get the Poly experts opinion.

We're currently booked for a lagoon view room but DH thinks we should do MK view since we'll be tied more to our room at night because of DS. This is my first time staying on site (last trip was in '93) and this is DH and DS's (2) first trip to WDW.

Can you tell me your thoughts on this? Is it worth the extra $? What longhouse/floor/room did you stay in?

Thanks!!

Thanks for the info! I read on another board here about the door/window decorating and it seemed like lots of people got into it. I thought I would also as it sounds like fun. I requested a room near the GCL (?) and I have a garden view so I have no idea if they'll honor this and if they do what building/floor I will be in. Maybe other resort rooms have windows near the doors? People are getting lights to string in their windows and green mickey heads for the doors also!:goodvibes

I do not know for sure but read about it on TGM and the 2008 Passporter-here' hoping!

I think it's more popular at the mods and values as the door is adjacent to the single window and that's it. At the Polynesian the doors open to the hall. The windows are huge sliding glass doors on the opposite side of the room.

Good luck with it and let us know. We'll be at the Polynesian in May and I'll try to remember to check. Even so, it could change again by your trip.

It was not well publicized when it was offered. Just listed on the blackboard at the marina.

I know Pal Mickey has been available in the past at the Polynesian. I imagine it still is, LETSGOFAM.

We decorated our door and our room. Here is a pic of DD in front of our door:

In addition, we decorated our room complete with a 'Santa' Stitch who dances and rings a bell and sang his rendition of 'We Wish You a Merry Christmas--Mele Kalikimaka!'

We would have decorated the window but didn't bring enough 'stuff'. We plan to do our patio window up right this December! :thumbsup2

I stayed in a lagoon view room in the Tuvalu longhouse (first floor patio) and had a semi-obstructed view of Cinderella's castle. Here is a zoomed-in photo of what I could see from our patio.

The MK view category means you can see the castle head-on without obstruction. If this is the most important to you, by all means book it. Personally I wouldn't spend the extra. I usually just book lagoon view because for me it isn't important that I get a dead-on view of the castle...just that I can see water, the Electric Water Parade and Wishes fireworks from my balcony.

I'd recommend Tuvalu and Tahiti for lagoon views. :thumbsup2

Thanks MsStinkerBelle! I'm with you - I don't need a dead-on view of the castle - just want to be able to see the EWP and Wishes from my balcony without having to wrench my neck! I just wanted to get the experts opinions!

Ahhh I love reading this thread! We leave in 16 days!! SO soon but sooooooo far when I think about all of the final papers I have the write, and all the tests I have to study for and take!! Thank goodness for this thread to keep me busy (even though I should probably be doing my homework instead of reading it!!!)

Can anyone tell me if they have refillable mugs and does anyone have a current picture of them??
