That's how we feel. Last July was our first stay at the Poly. We all decided next trip we'll be staying at the Poly again.

Is it true that once you stay at the Polynesian resort you never go back to any of the other resorts?

We've stayed at the Poly three times and loved it, but I still enjoy other resorts as well. Once YC/BC are renovated they might tie for first place with the Poly in my eyes. :rolleyes1

Okay, y'all...I'm TORN! We're super-duper excited about our MK-view Poly stay this coming December -- we're doing it up right for our first stay on property.

But I'm thinking seriously about booking the Wilderness Lodge for our next trip, which I've winnowed down to Dec 12 - 19, 2009. It sounds like the WL has great decorations, cozy theme, all nice Christmas-season stuff.

My AAA agent did a price comparison of the two resorts, and the Garden View Poly room still came in $500 more than the Courtyard View (an upgrade over Standard) Wilderness Lodge.

What do you think? I'm looking for opinions: Is it worth $500 more to be on the monorail/close to TTC? Should I save my $500, enjoy the WL atmosphere and suck it up about the less convenient transportation? What to do? What to do?

I think it's worth it because staying on the Monorail makes things a lot easier at WDW. Also between the Polynesian and Wilderness Lodge I would choose the Polynesian.

For your first stay I would say the $500 to be on the monorail is definitely worth it. From the Poly, you have monorail as well as boat access to the MK, and monorail access to EPCOT. With the WL you only have boat access to the MK and bus access everywhere else. Granted Disney bus transportation is efficient it isn't as convenient or timely as the monorail.

Hope that helps! :thumbsup2

Thanks, CR Resort Fan! I just went and looked at flights for THIS December, to get some sense of prices, and flights that week are 1/3 the cost of flights over New Year's, so I might save enough in airfare alone to cover the additional Poly expense! Hmmmmm!

After being pretty certain I wanted WL for the holiday atmosphere, now I'm really hemming and hawing, MsStinkerBelle! I do love the idea of being able to get places really easily, which it sounds like WL might not have going for it!

That's sounds like another reason to try the Polynesian, so maybe it's a sign.

Right, all of the garden view club level rooms are in the Hawaii building. :)

Thanks everyone! It is my first time staying at the Poly so I probably will be bugging you great people alot until then- ha!! I just looked up the Poly on the allearsnet website. They list the schedule for the snacks, breakfast, etc. in the club level. I can't wait to try some of the pastries and desserts- they sound scrumptious. I was planning to book the dining plan but decided to go with just the 2 quick service and 2 snack dining plan. I don't think we could handle a table service meal every night with the inclusion of the club level lounge.

If there would ever be a time to go to WL over the Poly, Christmas would be the time to do it. From what I hear, WL is one of the best (if not the best) decorated resort for the Holidays.

If you are already staying at the Poly for your 1st trip -(and Magic Kingdom view no less!) you are guaranteed to have a super trip that will create memories for a lifetime!

Why not experience a different resort for Trip #2. Especially at Christmas, it will give you a chance to experience something new.

I am sure you will one day again make it back to the Poly. (We all do!)

As for transportation, I would honestly advise you to rent a car, whether you are at the Poly or WL. For me, just the experience of getting on a bus (even one headed to the Poly) takes the whole resort feeling down a notch.

WL is a no-brainer, unless you like having to take buses to most everywhere you go.

Poly is great for easy walking or monorail transport to Epcot or MK. However, if you plan to venture out to AK, HS or DDD, the rental car will pay for itself. Plus, you will easily save an extra 2-3 hours on your trip not having to deal with the "Magical" Express, which has it in its contract with MCO that it must get passengers back to the airport at insanely early times before their flights. (All the better to allow tourists to shop at the Airport Mall - LOL!)

The Grand Floridian is just one monorail stop away and it has the best "traditional" Christmas decorations around. :goodvibes My family and I always make it a point to visit there a few times during our trip just to check out the decorations. After we do so, we're always glad to get back to the Poly to enjoy the cultural Christmas decorations. :thumbsup2

I am too excited not to share....:cheer2: I just booked my vacation for sept. 2009 for 8 nights at the POLY:cool1:

LOL, yes! We went in 2007 and decided to splurge on the Poly - mainly for the transportation convenience with two young children, and because while we didn't think it would be a one-time ONLY trip, we thought it would be a long time before we went again. So splurge... Lo and behold, we all loved Disney so much (only I had been before) and fell in TOTAL love with the Poly - and we're returning May 2009!!

I do enjoy staying at WL. It's my father's favorite, so we go there whenever we are vactioning with my dad and mom. Now, I love the Polynesian and it is my first love, don't get me wrong, but if it's raining and you are stuck at the hotel, WL is my number one choice. So many neat places to explore and you don't have to go outside. Also, I have always felt more comfortable just hanging out in the lobby. It's big enough and noisy enough to create a "little privacy in a crowded room".

JMHO.

I just booked our trip to Poly in April 2009!!!!!

I'm officially in! I just got off the phone with AAA and booked our Jan 09 trip - 2 GV rooms, dining and park hoppers for 4 adults, 2 children. Deposits paid! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:
