Welcome mr. poppins!

We have never noticed any kind of musty/moldy/unpleasant smell in any of the rooms at the Poly. I am super-sensitive to smells and can have reactions from musty/dusty type of odors and we have stayed at the Poly half a dozen times over the last few years with no issues whatsoever. I think your family should be fine!

Probably not live, but I'll be sure to take lots of pictures and report about our stay at the Poly when we get back. I'll also be doing a dining review over on the restaurant board.

I posted this on its own thread, but I suppose I should have posted it here with all the Poly experts! Please see my message below. Do I still have hope? And if so, what are the secrets/recommendations you may have? Thanks!

Called today to make room-only reservations for 4 rooms for December 2009 (today is day 499 from our trip). I got through first thing and someone picked up right at 7 o'clock.

I gave them the Grand Gathering number, the dates, and requested 4 MK View rooms. NO MK VIEW ROOMS AVAILABLE. Really? I called first thing, 499 days out, and all that was available was Garden View and suites?

Is there a trick? Are MK View rooms not available for booking until the rates come out?

We plan to updgrade all the rooms to a package once the rates are out.

Any inside info or advice/tips?

Is that the sitting area outside Ohana's, behind the host(ess) check-in stand? If so, that seemed to be the waiting area for people who had dinner ressies to Ohana's, not the lounge. I saw a bar in Ohana's...is that Tambu Lounge?

As you are facing 'Ohana, Tambu Lounge is to the right and directly adjacent to it. There are chairs and tables to the right of the bar. It must have been pretty crowded up there for you to not see the bar itself, it is rather large. Those waiting for a table at 'Ohana often do visit the lounge to wait. A good many also get a drink from Tambu and sit in the seats along the window area outside (and to the right) 'Ohana and Tambu. Since you will have a 10 y/o in tow, the area outside of the actual lounge might be more preferable to a seat within the lounge, although I have seen many children sitting at the tables/chairs in the lounge as well--you're choice.

Thanks! I've seen that area to the right of the bar...I remember the Packers were playing on the TV in the corner one afternoon and realized, "hey, it's Sunday afternoon, I can't believe I forgot that". Afterall, it was THE game of the year for the Packers. LOL

OMG you are freaking me out! I called TUES which I THOUGHT was 500 days in advance for me (Dec 2nd) and they wouldn't let me book yet. I wasn't trying for Theme Park view, however. OK I'm going to call now. GOOD LUCK...hopefully the person you spoke to was looking at Dec 2008 NOT 2009.

Updated to say that I just learned you have to wait till 499 days from your check out date. So you need to calculate from that point not the check IN date. For me, that means I have to wait till Monday.

Is it true that the standard garden view rooms sell out the fastest at Poly? (That's what I plan to do.....) Anyone have pix of the garden views?

Yes - I called 499 days from our checkout and I had to be the CM's first caller of the day (I'm sure not first overall, but for her). All they had was Garden View and suites. I couldn't believe it!

I'm hoping that they'll have MK view rooms available when the rates come out?

I was also hoping some of the Poly experts here could give me some info on whether or not this is "normal" and if I need to be worried or not. We really wanted the MK view rooms...

My GOSH that's NUTS. WOnder if there is something going on there that week or if that's normal. I cannot imagine that the "normal" people (non Dis-ers) even THINK to book 499 days in advance! Well we DO want garden view so I guess I'm ok. I can't call till Monday! (BOOHOO!) So what are you going to do? Do you just keep calling back till something opens up?

So here's a question - what do most of you DO during your stay at the Poly!? Do you spend most of your time in the parks OR do you make it a more leisurly pace and enjoy more time at the resort? In the past (again, pre-kids) I've spend my time in the park from open till close so it never mattered to me WHERE I stayed. But with 2 little ones, I figure I'll schedule in a lot more 'down time' so as to not overdue it with the kiddos. Think it's safe to say that we could do the parks in the mornings and return to the hotel at lunchtime (there about) and then return back to the parks in the evening? Or is that still alot for toddlers to handle?
