Welcome Mickey's Sister!!)

I'm sure you'll enjoy this thread, there are so many wonderful people on here with some much information. I look forward to reading your posts!
(By the way, I see you are somewhere near me???)

WOW!! Tons of information!

Thank YOU so much, Jessica . . .you are very sweet. I hope we'll see you here more often!

Hi Tig-girl:wave:

There are so far 9 in our party - 10 some days when my sister's boyfriend joins us. I can't wait either. I envy you going this year. I wanted to go this year but everyone else wanted to wait - since we were at Disney Nov 2003 . I hope you'll share all the details of your GG events - planning etc. Since I have to wait over a year for our trip  , I will have to live vicariously through everyone else. LOL

Wouldn't it be something if we lived near each other? I live near Beltzville State Park, near the Mahoning Valley exit of the Northeast extension of the turnpike.

Thanks again for the nice welcome!

Ok guys, had to share......We originally booked AKL on the 5+2 Dream Maker because we thought we should try something new. Well, now we're getting close to being 45 days out and just couldn't stand it......we had to switch our ressie to WL!!! I'm sure we would have loved AKL, as I've heard some great things about it, but our true hearts lie at WL. So, we're coming back again, and I truly can't wait. I'll probably get tears in my eyes when I enter the lobby again!

Just had to share...I knew all of the WL fans would understand.

:earsgirl: :earsboy:  pirate: princess:

Good for you! PLEASE let us know how your trip to WL goes!

Hi! I have only been to WDW once last October (FTP), and stayed concierge at GF...but we are looking at the deluxe rooms that sleep 6 at the WL...It seems like a charming resort and I am learning so much! I have a question about the parking situation though. (By the way, I am sorry if this question has been asked in the past...I tried doing a search, but the search engine wasn't working for some reason, and I am too impatient to wait! LOL)
At GF the parking was a nightmare. It was located way across the street from the resort, and every time we drove somewhere, my DH had to walk way over there to pick it up. We only used Disney transportation to MK and Epcot, so we did use the van quite a bit. But where is the parking located in comparison to the Main building??? I tried telling DH that they do this on purpose because no one wants a parking lot in their room view! But he still wants to know if the parking is located as far from the main building as it was at the GF. Thanks so much!
p.s. On the official disneyworld resorts site, WL link, I LOVED the music it was playing while showing pics of WL...makes me want to stay there just for that! LOL ..Music can sometimes do that, ya know?

Hi, Michelle2! Welcome to the thread. From what iIremember when we went to WL to eat at WCC, the parking lot was pretty close. . .took about a minute, probably less, from where we parked to get to the front door. Ihave never stayed there, so I don't know if there is another parking area there or not. Hope this helps!

P.S. I'm sure a WL vet/expert will come along some time tomorrow to clarify the parking situation ;)! And I love that WL music, too!

Good night!

The parking for WL is only about 50yds from the front door....you cross the port de chur(sp) and then down a few steps, then about 20 ft and you've made it to the parking lot....very quick...

Thanks Erika and zurg's wife for your replies. Now I have a dilemna which one to stay at, because now DH will definitely want to stay at WL...a little cheaper and the parking is so much easier. But I would rather know all the info! Thanks again.

we're about a week away....and looking forward to our stay at the WL :) I'd like to upgrade to the concierge level if it's available and not cost prohibitive....I just ask for that at check-in, right? I'm also interested in the Family Plan at the marina (the one for 4 hours of boating time), do we have to use the four hours at once?

I love this thread! it's been a huge help!

Madge

I know your so excited, Yes just ask for the cost of upgrading to Concierge at check-in if it's available they will give you a price then. (GOOD LUCK) :wizard:

The plan you want is the Captain Plan and no you don't have to use all four hours at one time.

If you could check the prices and let me know if there has been any rate increases I would appreciate it that way I can keep the activities and rates updated...

Attention: the family plans are back
**Recreation Family Plans:
Plan includes the Water Mouse, Pontoon Boats, Canopy Boats, Sailboats and Bicycles, (Cruises and Surry Biles NOT included)
Captain Plan: 4 hours of rental per Group $133.13.
Family Plan: Length of Stay Plan (10 Day Rate for Unlimited use of Equipment Listed Above) $254.44 (Up to 5 Guests per Plan)

All drivers of the boats must be over 16 years old and have a valid Drivers Licensed No age restrictions for passengers.

After a long time of lurking and reading all your wonderful posts about THE Lodge, I had to finally say thank you, thank you, thank you. Thanks to all of you for your great information and wonderful trip reports. They always seem to allow me to escape from work and feel like I'm back in the Wilderness!

Hello to all the WL fans here!

We just returned from our first trip there. (We spent three nights, followed by five nights at the BWI) As we approached the Lodge, we had to take a picture of the large welcoming sign and the moose sign!

As we entered the lobby, we were so impressed. We stayed at AKL last summer, so we have seen a soaring lobby before, but the WL lobby is different and beautiful. We loved the smell.

We arrived early and checked in around 11:00. They had our room ready, but unfortunately only one of our requests could be honored. We had requested a room on the lobby, on an upper floor, and N/S (but the N/S was guaranteed already) They gave us room 6062, which was a standard room facing the Contemporary resort. It was a short walk from the elevators, down a short hall and around a corner. The view at first was pretty bad, looking out on the delivery area and CM break area. We could smell things from a cooking exhaust out there. The beeping from trucks backing up was not too nice either, but........ the view at night improved. We could see part of Wishes and the CR looked nice lit up at night. That view on a lower floor would have been awful.

We took the first day to explore the resort, and we loved it! It had a woodsy, northern feel to it that only Disney could capture here in the middle of Florida. We saw bunnies and ducks with their ducklings. We liked the pool, and swam in it every morning and night. The geyser erupting every hour is neat! We also liked the little waterfall area of the pool near the rocks.

On the first day we tried to get to the Trails End buffet in the campgrounds, but the boat was taking a long, long time to arrive. When it did, everyone on it had to get off because the driver had an accident and the side of the boat was dented. About 20 minutes later a boat to the CR arrived and decided to take the Ft Wilderness people too. We decided to get off at the Contemporary and eat there since it was 2:30, and too late for lunch at the buffet. The second day we took the boat to MK and there were no problems either way. Relaxing ride.

WCC is a wild restaurant! I laughed so much in there from all the nutsy things they do. Yes, DH and I had to do the ketchup run! They made one man stand up as they announced loudly how "he wanted everyone to know it was his birthday". I think the man just wanted a free piece of birthday cake, but instead he was invited to ride a wooden horse around the room! Too funny! We ate in there the most.

Even though it was a short stay, we got the refillable mugs as a souvenir. We ate at Roaring Forks too.

We sat in all the sitting areas in the lobby, we did the Hidden Mickey hunt, and we rubbed Humphries nose every time we passed him! Had to buy the replica of that Humphrey pole ( a photo holder for one)

All in all, it is everything you experts here have said it is and more! Thank you for all your advice and for all the information contained in these pages. I have enjoyed reading your posts and appreciated all the collective knowledge here. We loved the Lodge and would definitely return again.

Hey! Now I can say I am a WL vet! Can't wait to return "home" again!

Now, on to my unhappy unpacking........:( Vacations are too short!

:wave2:

ADisneygirl---------Glad to hear that you enjoyed your time at "The Lodge". Sorry that your room requests were not granted though. We also had that happen, but asked the CR if we could please be moved, and we had to wait until the following morning, but we got the room we requested then. And it was wonderful! I know what you mean about the woodsy, northern feel in the middle of Florida. It is amazing that they have been able to give you that feeling of being "out in the woods", and then you get on the boat and make that slow turn and see the GF and the CR, and you know youre in Disney! I am SO looking forward to our next trip, and I'm almost into double digits!

flag family, captian's plan, check for upgrades....I think I'm set!

Hi I'm new to the WL thread we are going in September and Booked the AKL never have stayed at a Deluxe. Now The WL looks good to how many rooms does just the WL have not including the Villa's and is the Pool big enough for all that use it?
I like the food options more for WL than AKL. Thanks KELLY

Just returned yesterday. We checked in at 2 p on Wed and asked about concierge. We were quoted $60 a night for the upgrade. This is something we'd do if we didn't have 2 rooms and were already on the silver plan.

We had woods view and were put on the first floor - 1010 & 1012. The pond was practically right outside our door. This is the only way to go. It was so peaceful outside our room, and we were a short walk from the pool and dock.

At WCC Chris was working breakfast for a change the morning we went. DW and DD's found him truly obnoxious. The restaurant was every bit as lively as we'd been told dinner is.

Thanks for all your help and information.

Kelly,

The Wilderness Lodge has 728 rooms, while the AKL has 1307 rooms.

I have read that some think the pool at WL is on the small size, but the design makes it look smaller then it actually is. Plus the Lodge is so much smaller than the other Deluxe Resorts. I have never had any trouble swimming or relaxing in any of the pools at WL.

Both resorts are wonderful so have a great trip.

WELCOME HOME ADisneygirl !

I'm glad to hear that you had such a great time. It sounds like you made lemonade from lemons regarding your disappointment in your room view...good for you!!

BTW--I was so jealous the day you left ::yes::
