double dip ADR'S have long been a pet peeve of mine and i am glad they are finally doing something about it, but, if i read it right it would have screwed us up this year and i am sure others to this also...........4 of us are going to the Coral Reef and 2 of us are going to Sci Fi.......at the same time...no double dip, but it would not be allowed. unless i am reading it wrong, any opinions?????

You have to call in for the second adr or make the second one with the name of the person going and their phone number.

don't use your account for making the second ressie... since it will be other people in your party... you will have to put it under their name & phone number...

i get all that....i think my points are two....first, the people who play by the rules are forced to jump thru hoops because of the people who dont...second, by doing what you all say........the people who dont play by the rules still have a way to over book and then just not go to the one they end up not wanting.......so what has really been accomplished???????

I agree it is still too easy to create 2 different reservations at the same time. You sign in under another email, phone number and you can use your own name.

Sadly I think the only way to prevent double dipping, is charging a deposit with the reservation. It will make people think twice. Well at least they may make an effort to cancel the reservation to get their money back.

I agree with op that this is unfortunate - that it places restrictions on everyone just because others are being inconsiderate.

However, this rule should vastly increase the availability of inventory out there. The dining board actually allows threads where people proudly post cancellations - most of these people have double booked - under the guise of being nice/generous to those of us who were blocked out because so many have double booked - quite bothersome. I suspect the double booking is a pretty big issue.

I think the only way you can book online is if you have a valid confirmation number for an onsite stay (at the 180 day mark - when most of the popular places fill up). Duplicate emails/logins should not allow you to double book if it ties to this confirm number.

I vote to make people put a deposit on each reservation. That way people might think about have all the unused reservations in place.

I agree--Disney needs to ask for deposits. BTW, anyone can book a dining reservation, you don't need to be staying on Disney property.

No you can book if you aren't staying on site. I am a FL resident, and sometimes we don't stay overnight. I have booked reservations online without a room stay.

Well, at least it's a start in the right direction.

Yes you can, but staying onsite you can book at 180 plus 10 days - so by the time it opens to off site folks, the more popular venues are likely filled. The problem of double booking is most likely on the first day reservations open.

I don't double book, but I have cancelled ADR's same day and I wouldn't be too happy about being charged for doing that. I can understand the need, but when I make an ADR I have every intention of keeping it, but stuff happens at Disney and I think a 48 hour cancellation or charge rule is too strict. I know that is what is now for a few places, but for all TS? No, they need to figure out something or be very leniant with the cancellation time frame. I have cancelled ADR's due to illness, bus issues and once because we got stuck in line the at BTMRR because it broke down and we couldn't get out of line and make it to the restaurant in time. There way too many things at Disney that can happen that are out of your control that make you have to cancel and ADR and I don't think you should be charged for those issues. Heck, I don't think you should be charged even if it's just because you are at MK and the kids all beg to stay at MK rather than going over to Epcot for an ADR...(as long as you cancel) No call, no show, that's different, but you should have the flexibility to cancel without charge even if it's just an hour before IMHO. We all know how easily the best laid plans can go astray at WDW.

If you build a better mousetrap, someone will build a better mouse.

Always worked that way. Always will.

For whatever reason, some people won't show for restaurant reservations. They might get sick, run out of money, be too tired, double book, whatever. Disney knows there will be X number of people who don't show. They figure this in to their system.

or get stuck on Disney Transportation.

I also don't agree with deposits except for meals like Cinderella's castle. For those on the dining plan, you'd have to make deposits on a ton of adr's. However, I found that between the pop up that was showing you already had a current dining reservation and the release of free dining so early and for a longer time period, I had no problem getting the adr's I wanted at the 180 day make and those that I have changed since.

No matter what rules are set up for society, there will always be people that will do their best to circumvent the rules. Some people just don't care about others, plain and simple.

Unfortunately, in most cases, in trying to prevent these people from achieving their goals, it makes life harder for the honest people.

Disney will never stop double bookings. The only way to deal with it is to not let missing out on a given restaurant ruin your vacation. There are so many to choose from, and even in your least favourite place to eat, you should still be thankful you're in WDW.

(That said, people who double book should rot in hell) :)
