The NEW Official November 2010 Countdown & Planning Thread ~ Come join us! (Part 2)

I'm so sorry to hear about your husband's job loss. Something sure does sound fishy. I hope he asks some questions, at least talk to HR. I'll be praying for you and your family.

We could use all the prayers you could send our way right now. Friday night, DH lost his job. There was no reason. No warning. No Nothing. He was called at 10:30 at night and told they weren't happy with him. Which is really funny since not even two weeks ago, they said he was one of the best Blaster they have ever seen! Yes, we are going to look into Wrongful Termination. We believe he has strong grounds for it.

Jobs lose aside, we are okay. We know God has a plan and that everything will work out in the end. Financially, we are okay to. Atleast for a little bit. But, if he doesn't get a job soon, we are going to have to cancel our trip. I really hate to, but we have to be responsible. Disney, regardless of what my brain tells me, isn't a requirement. And it isn't like this is our first (or last) trip. But it was going to be a special trip. And it hurts a bit to cancel. But as life, poop happens!

And since we finally told the kids and told them the surprises we had planned, I will share with you all too. We changed our resort back in July to the Poly. Both DDs really have wanted to stay there for a long time. It isn't my fav but this trip was suppose to be special, so I really wanted to surprise them and stay there. We also changed our ADRs some. We changed arrival night to Grand Floridian Cafe. It is DD1 favorite place on property. We ordered her a bday cake to be made by the GF bakery. It was going to be a Alice in Wonderland themed Mad Hatter shaped cake. We moved our Yachtsman to Friday night and canceled our Candlelight Processional Package. And for DD2, we canceled Cape May breakfast on Thanksgiving and changed it back to Chef Mickeys. We had literally made this the perfect trip for our kids.... Oh well, if things don't work out, we can do it again next time.

It sucks. But life goes on. As the saying goes, "If he brings you to it, he will bring you through it!" I keep repeating that. And "Theres A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow...."

Really sorry to hear that your going through this. It would be so hard to cancel that trip. But, like you said, if you had to cancel you have the perfect Disney trip to plan for in the future (here's some pixie dust to hope you dont have to wait pixiedust:) I hope everything works out for your husband.

Really hate to hear about your husbands job loss. I'm sure that makes for a highly stressful time. I pray that all works out for the best!

Ordered my DS (12) Disney UP pins from the Disney store. We have never done pin trading and I thought 3 pins for $6 was a great deal and great way to try it out. Well, the pins arrived and my DS was like "oh. thanks" and my other DS (9) and DD (9) were immediately saying "OH, NEAT, who are these for? These are cool!". So, guess what? I ordered 3 more sets, so now all 4 kids will have their own to trade/keep. :rolleyes1

25 days!!!

I'm so sorry to hear this happened to your family :grouphug: - back in 1992 the same things happened to my family and we were able to still have our trip (though my dad did have to have a phone interview for a job while we were there).

I'll keep your family in my thoughts!

Px4, I am so sorry for your DH's job loss. A similar thing happened to my DH back in 1998 unfortunately it was about 6 week AFTER our Disney trip, so we had spent money we wouldn't have had we known. On top of that, I ws pregnant so we had to take up Cobra. He was out of work 4 months and another 2 months without insurance so we had to pay for Cobra for 6 months! He had just been told what a valuable employee he was as well, unfortunatly they let him go a week before Christmas with no explination. He was told later by former coworkers that they found a just out of college girl who was also "involved" with the married boss to do the job for a lot less. Unfortunatly in NY they don't have to tell you why you are being let go so no looking into wrongful termination, so I don't know much about that but I hope it is good news for you guys.

Best of luck for you guys, we got though it and I know yo uwill too but it sure stinks when you are facing it.

Jessica- I am so sorry for your husband, the same thing happened to my husband years ago. They asked him if we would move and expand the teritory on a Fri and then over the weekend the company sold out and everyone was layed of Mon. It is hard, but to have to give up such a "perfect" trip so close to it arriving really stinks. I hope for your girls you don't have to cancel!!

Jessica I'm so sorry to hear about your DH losing his job. If he's got any type of performance reviews or other documentation that sing his praises definitely use those to prove a case for wrongful termination. Maybe he can find a former co-worker that is willing to tell him what the real reason was for his firing and would be willing to tesitfy for him or, at the very least, sign an affidavit about what they know.

In the meantime, he can file for unemployment and if the employer tries to deny it (and based on what you've said I'd say it's a safe bet they would) he can always appeal. I'll keep you and your family in my prayers.

Oh Jessica, I'm so sorry. You have such a positive outlook. I hope your DH finds something quickly. BTW, what is a Blaster?

I hope that things work out soon for you and your family, Jessica. I will hope and pray for lots of Pixie Dust for you guys.

As of this morning, DH will be home for R&R on one moth- woohoo!! Then, 3 days later, we will be hitting the road for WDW! Life is looking pretty good here!

Now if I could just get that Ohana ADR... :lmao:

What day/time are you looking for ?

Thank You so much everyone. Now, if I could only get over this really bitter feeling, I would be alright. But I just can't seem to get passed the fact that he was truly fired for no reason, and it was handled so dirty and sneaky. On Friday evening, the bosses even told him they would see him on Monday! Then to make things worse, my stepdad is the mine superintendent (meaning only the owners are over him) and he didn't know about it. They didn't even tell him. So he quit last night. He said he couldn't go back there anymore and look in the faces of the people who screwed his family. It is just a really horrible situation. DH is going to a lawyer today to see if we do infact have a case. Then he is going job hunting.

I really, really, really wish he had stayed in active duty in the Army. Pay sucks, but job security is amazing!

BTW, what is a Blaster?
In DHs case, a Blaster is the person who blows up the Mountain at a strip mines. He wires it up and makes it go boom. But he can work at more then a coal mines. He can work anywhere that uses or teaches or regulates explosives. Its just that in this area, not much pays higher then the coal mines.

What day/time are you looking for ?

I have been trying for 11/16 or 11/19 or 11/20 around 8pm.
I have been trolling the ADR ressie site and the cancelled thread here. I got one at 9:30 pm, but I know the kiddos will be past their "good behavior at meals" threshold by then...

DH is active duty. The schedule is no fun- every other year I get to be a single parent to 2 boys (one with autism). But as you said, there are advantages. Plus, DH loves what he does- he just wishes he could do it 10,000 miles closer to home!

I know well how your hubby feels. I lost my job of ten years in a similar fashion last August. I went without a job for about 8 months but I got to spend time with my Mom before she passed that I would not have gotten otherwise.

I am so sorry you all are having to go through this. Just try to enjoy the extra time you all will get to share by him not working and with prayer he will hopefully find a new job very quickly. :grouphug:

Oh, the schedule is the same with reservist. DH has been 3 times. But hasn't been in several years because he is on a deadmans profile for his knee and asthma. He is 80% disabled according to military standards. Yet they won't do a medical discharge. He has been sent to the medical board twice now. He can't be promoted (has been a E6 since 2005!), can't be deployed. He isn't even allowed to carry a weapon. So why they won't discharge him is beyond us. But considering our experience with the med board process I am not surprised.

There was a soldier at Walter Reed with him who lost his leg in Iraq from a IED. But because the paper work was done (or got lost?), he was having a hard time getting his medical discharge. Why? Because they said without the paper work he could have lost his leg anywhere! Nevermind that he was medivac out of Iraq and spent a few months at Landstuhl before being transferred to Walter Reed! And people wonder why soldiers complain about the medical care. Yes, its free. BUT farrrrrr from perfect.

Just asking because I have a breakfast I may cancel on 11/20.

I was fiddling with my ressies (AGAIN) Sunday, and it had a notice that one day this week the online ressies would not be available. They will be upgrading or something and you will have to call in for ressies/changes...did anyone else see that? Just wanted to let you all know..I think it's Thursday.
