NEWS BITES

REMINDER: This is the last week for Summer Nightastic! at the Walt Disney World parks. The Main Street Electrical Parade's run has been extended indefinitely, but the Magic Kingdom fireworks show reverts to Wishes! on August 15, and the special effects on the Tower of Terror will cease that same day.

Can't wait to see MSEP! And I'm SO glad that Wishes will be back! :yay:

My second AP voucher came in the mail yesterday! So exciting. I think I'm going to wait and buy mine and DH's when we get there and use our GAD vouchers towards them (that's now $82 off each). Our other 2 GAD vouchers we'll use for Magical Fast Passes for MK and Epcot! Yay!
I pretty much decided not to bring a stroller for my DS6. We may end up renting on a couple of long days. So now I'm trying to decide what to bring to carry everything and not be miserable. I'm a sewer, so I'm thinking I'll make DH and DS11 Disney cinch top backpacks that they can carry their own sweatshirts and bottle of water (camera for DS11). And I think I'm going to make myself a cool bag with special pockets for autograph and journal pages, boys trading pins, etc.
I have a QOTD for you:
What do you use to carry all your stuff around at the parks?
(keeping in mind on full park days, you have to carry sweats)

Just going a different direction, you might want to still bring a stroller...just to carry your bags, water, snacks, extra clothes, ponchos, etc in. And if 6yo does get tired, then it's a back-up.

You could use an exisiting one or just get one of the cheaper strollers (and then donate to someone at the resort when you leave).

Just park the stroller in a general area ... don't plan to take it everywhere you go in the park if you hate moving it around all the time.

We have always had a stroller. I usually have my camera bag and extra lenses, and another bag for extra stuff we bring. DD2 hardly ever rode in the stroller, it was basically our carry all! But it was great when she was about to have a meltdown from being overheated and tired. And honestly, even she is 8, I am thinking of bringing one again.

Px4, I do not think you are ever too old to need a stroller at DW. It gives the parents a place to put their stuff so they do not have to carry it around and the children can walk or sit as the need arises. It is much easier to handle a tired child in a stroller, you can park them in the shade and relax rather than trying to either cope with their meltdowns or have to carry a sleeping child.

Being a bit older than 8 I am thinking of turning to the adult equivalent, a walker. :rotfl2:

DH carries a lightweight backpack with the cameras, sunscreen, ponchos, cell phone and all that stuff; I bring a VB hipster for my glasses, sunglasses, bandaids, cell phone etc. and wristlet which I use for a small amount of cash, our KTTW cards, and FPs. When DGD10 is with us, she has a smallish Tinkerbell messenger bag for her camera, cell phone (which makes me feel better in case we ever get separated..which hasn't ever happened), autograph book and pen.

Hello all,

So I checked out the easywdw site, pretty cool. I'm thinking though that if our crowd levels are at a 2 the entire time we're there, that even the "parks to avoid" shouldn't be too bad, right? I do plan on mostly following the EMH's since we're not hopping and may wish to rest mid-day and go back, but easywdw says to universally avoid EMH parks b/c of crowds being heavier.

We use to do EMH at MK so my DS could get the max ride time on Splash Mt but other than that we are not the rope drop kind of people. As far as night EMH I do have two planned this year one in Epcot during the F&W but I have read in TR from last year that the crowds thin out at F&W during EMH so it is a good idea

I also plan on AK for the EMH since we never spend a full day there and may end up skiping it altogether, I am driving myself crazy second guessing my original plans of late :confused3

Never used a stroller since first visit my boys were 9yrs and 19yrs old. I have never used anything other than a fanny pak, the one I bought in 2005 is quite large and I found last year the weight around my waist bothered my back so for this year I bought a sling bag which is also a cross body bag, it has numerous pockets to carry all the various items I need to take along each day, camera, phone, inhaler, money etc. I do wish it had a place to hold a water bottle but it doesn't so I will be carrying that in hand I guess
(I do not go on thrill rides so it is not a big problem)

Now as far as sweats go if the weather warrants we wear heavier clothing we will just head back to the resort midday and change for the evening, as far as jackets, I plan on doing what I did last year in March I wore it in the morning , tied it about my waist in the day then had it to put on again at night. DH is always hot so he will be in shorts and no jkt no matter how cold it gets, he wears short here in CT until almost December

Before the days of cell phones I always had a "meet Place" picked out anytime we went anywhere in case one of my DS became "lost"

One time at a boy scout jamboree my youngest DS(8) "disappeared" into a sea of scouts all dressed alike , all about the same size :scared1:
When we had arrived I pointed out to my DS the Gazabo and told him if we became separated to go there to meet. Yes I went to the Gazabo and there he was sitting waiting for me.:)

Hi all! I am sooo excited about the MSEP!! Haven't seen it in so long that at this point it's gonna be one of the highlights of my trip!! The Wed of our trip I have not made any definite plans...it'll either be Epcot or Hollywood ~ with a spot on the sidewalk for MSEP!!! Then I might do it again on Sat night!!!! I loved the Easy website!! WOW we have all 2s on my week also..except the weekend goes to a 3 &4..but I knew it would be increasing by Sat afternoon/Sun as all the Thanksgiving week people will come in...so I am super excited about that...I got the notification when I was rearranging park days/ADRs..so it was super helpful. Thanks again for posting it!!! Sheila? Did you post it? I forgot!!! And Summerlady~ love your new avatar!! Very Sweet!
Well...we are working on week 6 of :teacher: here! As you may remember, we home school, so we are on a slightly diff schedule than our local schools...we start earlier, take a loooong mid-semester break and then get out earlier as well. After the first 9 weeks, we take a week off...that falls the first full week of Sept for us...following Labor Day weekend. I was thinking of squeezing in a small trip somewhere..but not sure. If not,....we will just be lazy, swim as much as possible, and start making my packing lists!! Also, will do my Christmas shopping lists with the kids and start shopping one of those days.....baking lists too....got a lot to do that will take up that whole week!! Might be cheaper for Mike to take us somewhere! :rotfl: So...we will keep plugging along with school & life & church activities....I am using school for my mental countdown for our vacation!! We actually wrap up the nine weeks the week of vacation!! So.,,I am excited that we got it to work out like that!
Happy Hump day!! Gotta go get my little pumpkins ready and lined out for today!!!

we almost always avoid parks with EMH becuase of heavier crowds... we try to go to the parks that had them the day before because most people were there the day before...

That is what we do too! :thumbsup2 No EMH for us!!

We have never done the stroller thing at Disney. Just seems like too much of a hassle to me. We started going when our youngest was 3, turned 4 on the trip and he was fine with the walking! So thankfully we didn't need one. Plus we never had to haul around diapers & sippy cups, etc. We like to travel light when we go to the parks. The kids each have a little Disney fanny pack. I have a light purse/bag type thing I got a Target several years ago that I take. And DH only carries a small backpack if we are going to need jackets later in the day. I'll have to see if I have a picture of my park bag. . .

LOL! Last year my FIL had to use a ECV/ECV whatever it is.... To him it was a huge blow to his ego. Personally, I thought he was crazy! It looked pretty awesome to me! I could get into scooting around the parks in one of those! Think of the extra energy you would have?!?!?!

I meant to mention earlier that my actual bag for me is a VB Mailbag. Love it. DD1 has a mini hipster. It works out because she can put her extra pins on it and carry her phone and autograph book. DD2 wants one for this trip. We shall see. Now my camera bag is big and bulky. I haven't found one yet that is comfortable to lug around.

Yes it was moi' Sheila  one of these days I need to fit my name in my siggy somewhere
The site is great for a free site, a little mad that I paid for UT just last week after holding out for so long :rotfl:

I am excited too about the low crowd levels for my week it is showing 2's , UT showed all 1's except on Nov 10 -4 & Nov 11-2 (Vetrans Day), no matter it has to be a lot less than previous trips especially last years trip during spring break

I want to see MSEP, it has been many years for us also but unless we opt to get park hoppers I do not think it will be possible :sad1: and that $100+ for the PH could be used for snacking at F&W :confused3

I keep thinking we should have kept our extra day, if only the air to fly home on Sunday would not have been so much more, oh well at least we are headed back to Disney during a wonderful time of the year

QOTD:

We don't ever carry extra clothing as we always take a break. What I do use for everything else though is a fanny pack. (I've got two Disney ones.) They hold all my stuff (tickets, cash, cards, hand sanitizer, camera and other misc small stuff.) I just can't stand having to carry around bags all day and don't want a backpack that has to be removed for the rides and such, so the fanny pack is perfect for us.

That is a great idea. Although I have to admit we really like the late EMH at Magic Kingdom. After 10 p.m. or so on those nights, it seems the park just clears out and we can ride all our favorite rides without hardly any wait. Of course we always sleep late the next day though to make up for staying in the parks so late.

I may a slight minority because I've never gone with kids... unless I was said kid - and those cases that why I had parents... to hold my stuff!

As an adult I usually bring a small messenger bag (big enough to hold a hoodie), though my last trip my aunt lent me some Vera Bradly stuff and my try to take it again. Oh my, that small backpack held EVERYTHING!!! And it was very easy to go through security since it only had one zipper pocket. If I can't get it... back to good old messenger bag

I got my Disney bag most of the way done this evening! Just have to add some velcro and embellishments. I'll post a pic when complete.
We are also at 100 days today!! The kids were ready to pull a number off the calendar, but I told them they have to wait until tomorrow when it will be 99 days!

If you are then, so am I!!!

Woo hoo!!! We are in double digits in about 3 hours (EDT).

My DH and I are fanny pack people also for the same reasons. We would take breaks after lunch too, so we didnt need to carry anything larger than a camera and poncho. But now DS is with us this trip and I am dreading the stroller, mostly because of the hastle of 'parking' and then locating it after the rides. We havent been in Nov. and Im reading we may need some cool weather layers for evenings. Sounds like I will have to remember my DS has to be able to actually RIDE in the stroller with everything I'll want to carry to the parks!:lmao:
