Ladies, I'm a little in shock but I just registered for this and sprung for the race retreat as well. I've been considered for a new job, and after finishing the ToT 10 Miler, I kept telling myselt if I get it, I'm going to register. I've been anxiously looking at the percentages, and after the medal was released yesterday I was certain it would fill up quickly. I was about to lose hope, but I got the offer today, which includes a significant pay raise and an extra week of vacation. On top of that, my birthday was yesterday, so this is my gift to myself. I wish I could have registered at ToT, but I was still too uncertain to bite the bullet. I'm doing a half in 6 weeks, and historically runDisney is there, so I wanted to do it there, but I was afraid it would sell out before then. I'm still on the fence about the 5k and the pasta party, but those percentages aren't as high yet. I feel like I have some time to decide. Now, to book the hotel and air. I'll be going solo for the first time ever (unless I win the sweepstakes) so the focus is really just the race. I may spend a day at MK because I'd really like to see the new Fantasyland. If not, I'll be doing the Dream cruise in May with the fam so maybe then. I'm just so excited over my new job and getting to register for this. I've been having a hard time staying focused on my half training for my race in 6 weeks so this is really going to put a spring in my step!! I can't wait to run in a tiara!!

Congrats on all the exciting things happening in your life and welcome to the PHM group
! :cheer2:

I almost wish they didn't have the castle part. I am starting to see the contest come up on all sorts of non-running sites. I just hope whoever wins is actually a runner and not someone who just wanted to stay in the castle.

For some reason, I don't think I'll forget ;)

I'm wondering if you're seeing these ads based on tracking cookies in your computer. I've noticed I get a lot of ads for Disney stuff online on Yahoo, blogs, etc that have banner ads because of going to Disney sites etc.

A GPS watch is obviously the easiest solution to monitor your pace/time, but a regular watch with an old fashioned pace band (unless you are very good at math on the fly!) works just as well!
Or a phone app - I use RunKeeper and/or iSmoothRun on my iPhone. :thumbsup2

CONGRATULATIONS!!! :cheer2: That's great news, on top of Princess registration!

Hey- so can we all agree that if someone here wins SOMETHING / ANYTHING from runlikeaprincess.com ... that they post here so we call all ooh & aahhh ? :) Good luck everyone!!
::yes:: Though I neverevereverever win things like this!

So, the temp and humidity has FINALLY dropped here in West-Central Florida and I want to offer a great, big THANK YOU!!! to all who repeatedly told me (and others) not to worry about pace as we trained over the long, hot summer... you were so right! I can't get over how much faster I am (even with a injury!) and how much more pleasant running is now that it doesn't feel like running in a steam room. :woohoo:

Right??? We have a front moving in right now here too and I'm so looking forward to running in what it leaves behind tomorrow morning! :yay: I just wish it would hurry up and finally stay for a while rather than going back and forth!

I'm not sure what running in cool weather will be like. I've only started and live in south ms ;)

The front up here is going to leave behind temps in the 30s tomorrow morning, and I've got a 5k  I'll be digging out that Under Armour tonight.

It's all relative, of course - by "cool" I'm referring to anything under 80 and less than 70% humidity! ;):rotfl: They're actually talking morning temps in the low-60s here... I'm breaking out the tights and jackets!

LOL, I run in sleeveless tech T and shorts in anything above 50, mid-40s-50 I do short sleeves and shorts, upper 30s - mid 40s is long sleeve tech and maybe start pulling out pants. Funny thing is that I'm cold pretty much the rest of my existance other than running and other active stuff.

we should have mid to upper 40's by tomorrow morning! I'll probably just do capris and a short sleeved top and use my sweat band to cover my ears if I need it for a while...I warm up pretty quickly.

That's where I am! I can actually deal with the heat and humidity. Right now hasn't been bad at all compared to June, July and August. It's the cold snaps that I hate! If we have a real winter, I see a lot of time on the treadmill and mid day runs in my future! LOL

Cool front rolled through Austin last night, so I got my long run in this morning.

It. Was. Glorious. :dance3:

Enjoy the cool weather ladies!

That was me until last year. Somewhere I got past my fear of cold (you know, sub 50 degrees bahahahaaa!) and have embraced it! I love the cooler temps now. Much less humidity and sticky sweating! :thumbsup2

Hi there! I just registered for the Princess Half yesterday and I'm so excited too!!! I'm not doing the Galloway training program but I'm doing a training program too. It's 12 weeks so I'll have to modify it a little bit to stretch it out but assuming I can deal with these shin splints I hope to be set by time it rolls around. That's awesome that you're going to to do the Castaway Cay 5K!!!! I did a Dream cruise last year and I fully intended to do it but I didn't keep up the running so it didn't happen. :sad2: But not this time! Have an awesome cruise and enjoy the 5K - it looks fun!

Are you still having shin splints? My local running store recommended wearing shin sleeves during the run and after, plus I bought a reusable shin ice packs. They've helped a ton!!!

Ok...I just caught up and all this talk about sweepers and corrals have me scared. I put 3:30 as my estimated finish time since I'll be happy just to finish within the allotted time. Does this put me at a great disadvantage? If I'm worried I won't even finish in time, why would they put me at the end and start later than everyone else? :(

I'm here at Disney right now enjoying wine & food festival and was glad the 2013 race course came out while I'm here! I would say 85% of the course is pretty flat. I see the biggest/hardest part for me will be the on ramp back to Epcot. Also got to talk to a Disney employee who verified my thoughts on the flatness of the course and where the inclines/ramps would be. He has run the course.

All that being said which hopefully will make you feel better about how hard the course could be...have you timed yourself for a mile or two or three ? I found when I started training in May ( turned 45 so figured I needed extra training for my first half) I could walk a 14 min mile and proudly can say I did my 5K last Saturday at a 12:32 pace per mile. Stick to a good training schedule and this far out you can shave off a little time !
