Question for people who have run the race before...
how tired were you? I will have my family with me, and I don't know how realistic it is with the early wake up time..etc.

Okay, odd question for those more experienced.... when I got fit for my shoes 2 years ago, I went to a running store and they put me in Brooks Ravennas - 1.5 sizes bigger than my regular shoe. That's fine - I get that running shoe sizing is different. However, since then I have read about most people only going up 1 size at most; even the Brooks website and other running store websites say to go up only half a size for the Ravennas. Does going from a 6 to a 7.5 sound weird? I mean, I haven't had any major problems save a bout with shin splints over a year ago and I've gone through 3 pair in that size but... it seems odd to me. I have been experiencing some pain each morning and some post-run in my left inside arch - worrying about possible PF-type issue. Just trying to puzzle out if my shoe could be contributing. Thanks for letting me think publicly! :rotfl:

Can you go back to a good running store with your current shoes and have them take a look? I got fitted for shoes at Marathon Sports in Boston earlier this summer and they put me in Brooks PureFlows 2 sizes over my normal street shoe size. I was having trouble with my 1 size bigger Nike Free Runs on long runs... my toes would start hitting the front of the shoe after about 5 miles. They said if training for a 1/2 marathon I needed more room than for shorter distances. But if you are having foot pain issues, best to get it checked out... could be the shoes.

I try to schedule in a little down time after the race...go back to the hotel, grab a refueling snack, shower and get off my feet for just a little bit...do some stretching. Anyone that has come to cheer and has been up with me at 3am appreciates a little nap time too! Normally for a Disney race, I'll have something like a 2pm celebration ADR somewhere, because I'm usually ready to gnaw my arm off by then :) That little bit of downtime recharges me enough to get through the rest of the day. The longer you can keep moving that day and the next, the less you'll tend to stiffen up and get really sore, so get out to the parks if it's possible and show off that medal! It ends up being a looooong day and I'm pretty much delirious by the time I get into bed that night...but I find that little bit of down time, whether I am able to nap or not, really helps.

Last year we went back to the room after the race to shower (I was really cold!) then met up with friends for lunch. After walking around a bit, we took a 2 hr nap until dinner time, and we ended up staying out until after midnight at Jellyrolls!

After the Princess last year we also went back to the hotel by way of walking through DTD and showered and hit the hot tub..(although I have since heard that is NOT recommended...) then we headed out for a celebratory dinner - but we were so tired we were asleep by 9pm that night - but we headed ot for rope drop in the morning!! This year we are thinking about a relaxing spa treatment before dinner! What have all of you done after the race and where?

I have a question and would love to hear some recommendation on where to eat and carb. load Saturday night before the race ?? We will be at AK for a good part of the day and will not be park hopping.

We will have a rental car so we could drive somewhere for a early dinner. I would love to hear any ideas. Thanks

Though I didn't necessarily carb load there, I ate at Portobellos in DTD the night before Princess and it was great. I think I had a roasted chicken dish with some steamed veg and nibbled on some of my BF's pasta too. Their roasted garlic spread that comes with the bread is sooooooooo good!

I was a little nervous after that so many people were looking for 'Ohana post race but I was able to make my adrs today and got it:cool1:

We will be eating at 'Ohana the night of the race and BOG that Thursday. (still have to pick a few other lunches and such but happy to have the big ones booked)

Can't wait to see everyone at the Princess and celebrating at 'Ohana:banana:

Now, if only I could get motivated to go for a run:confused3 I had a 10 mile run on Monday and was just so tired afterwards that I never wanted to do another long run again:(

I can't make mine until 8/28, so I'm crossing my fingers!

I felt exactly the same after my first 10-miler last Sat. It's slowly starting to fade, but I'm awfully glad this week is a cut-back to 4 or 5 miles! :rotfl:

That makes me happy to hear! My race day plan is:
run the half,
back to the room for a shower
brunch/lunch, either at DTD if we stay at POR or Epcot if we stay at YC/BC/BWI
2-3 hour nap
dinner at V&A
MK for Wishes, parade, and EMH

Ok I'm new here just signed up for the princess and really nervous since this is my first half marathon.

I signed up yesterday for it. I'm going to try to make a dark red sparkly skirt and find some devil horns to wear. I figure the horns might good practice if I decide to run the Princess with a tiara. Hope to see some of you ladies there.

I really need to get back to training again. I fear I may be walking a good portion of the Rockfest Half next month.

Holly

Sounds neat. I'll have to start thinking about a costume. Trying to convince hubby to do it with me, but not sure if he will.

My longest run so far was just short of 7 miles, but I have only managed to run 1.5 miles total this week. So, I may be walking a good part of it too. Just feeling in a funk right this week--perhaps its the stress of school starting next week (my oldest is starting Kindergarten!) Ah, well--that's why this race is perfect. A nice walk along the beach when you are too tired to run the last few miles. Plus, we'll probably get to see the winner of the full marathon run past us. :rotfl2:

I think I may join up with this one too. Need to make up my mind soon!

I think it's great that so many of us New England Princesses are doing the same races.

Hey all!

I started running for the first time around March and quickly through May was able to adapt and go running 4 or 5 a week and complete 4miles within an hour. At the beginning I pushed myself because of the honeymoon adrenaline phase that I was out there doing it. I would frequently try to not take any breaks during my runs if at all and would just basically run non stop.

Around late May early June I started to get a slight Achilles ache on my right side. I freaked out and dramatically slowed down my runs and cut it to 2-3miles, lightly jogged, and took more walk intervals mixed in with the running.

We're now in August. I'm training at night after work usually around 8-9pm for an hour 3-4 a week with running intervals (jog for a mile than walk for a minute). I usually hit 3-4miles and on a good day was able to hit around 5.16 in one hour exactly. I get that I've improved seeing as how a few months ago I was clocking in 4miles jogging non stop for one hour.

I also get that we're in August and the humidity should be killing everyone of us who are training in South Florida. But should I be worried if at this point I'm unable to pass that 5 mile marker? Should I just chalk it up to the humidity? Just the idea of being able to do 4miles non stop now is daunting. How did I do it initially??

Was it the lack of humidity? Will the fall weather help? Any tips to knock down the wall after that 5mile exhaustion period?

Sounds kind of like my plan though:

lunch at Epcot/DHS (letting DH pick)
Check into BLT (by 4pm)
Nap/Rest
Dinner at Narcossee's-MK for Wishes and EMH!

I'm not an expert on running.... but I'm darned close to being an expert on running in humidity at this point! ;) The #1 tip, which is also the very hardest one to follow, is this: SLOW DOWN. Seriously - run at a slower pace, take more frequent walk breaks, walk more slowly when you take them. It's a huge mental kick in the teeth, but forget pace and concentrate on being safe and finishing the distance. I promise, it helps! :thumbsup2

I have Fridays off work, which I like, but this one has been crazy. There was a loose pit bull that we (me and 20 month old DS in a stroller) on our 3 mile run this morning. It didn't even notice us, but wandering dogs scare me, especially when my child is with me. I was freaked out the rest of the run and tried to go home a different way, but realized it was too traffic-y, lost my cell phone in a ditch, found it eventually...

Made breakfast and dropped a big jar of peanut butter on my left toes.

Took DS to an open gym session to play on all the gymnastics equipment, slides, foam pit, etc. he had a great time, but a heavy wooden ladder fell right in top of my left foot! Bruised & swollen. I'm scheduled for a 5 mile run Sunday, I hope it's not really hurt. I've iced it and will rest it today.

I'm thinking I just need to sit quietly at home the rest of today!!

Anyone else deal with dogs on their runs? Any tips?

oops, sorry for that empty box, that is what I get for trying to respond on my phone!

Super, I just wanted to give you a big cyber hug - you have had a rough day! I am not sure what to do about a loose dog, and worry about them myself, especially when I am walking my dog. I did buy some pepper spray, but haven't gotten brave enough to carry it with me - afraid I would accidently spray myself. Perhaps a loud noisemaker or whistle to scare it away?
