Question of the night: What time do you go to bed before the race and how in the world did you fall asleep early? I was just thinking and if I need to get up at 2:30 to get ready, if I go to bed at 10 and fall right asleep that is only 4.5 hours. How did you do it?

I make sure to get up pretty early the day before the race so that I'll be sleepy earlier that evening. It also helps that I usually go to bed pretty early, and get up pretty early, on a daily basis, so it's not super foreign to my body. I plan an early dinner and aim to at least be in bed by 8-8:30...maybe not asleep by then, but at least in bed in a dark room watching a little tv and unwinding until I finally doze off. Sure, getting up at 2:30 for a race is still going to cause me to loose a couple of hours of sleep from the norm, but the race day excitement pushes me through and I don't notice it so much....until about 9pm after the race....then I just get delirious from the exhaustion of a day of racing and park touring. My boyfriend says its entertaining to watch :)

Since this will be my first half, I doubt that I will sleep very much the night before. I know that I will want to do a park since we will have very little time that weekend. I want to see the Fantasyland improvements.

I picked Belle for my princess and keep thinking about what to wear. But I have time to figure that out.

Have a great night :)

Is it possible for you to save the park for after the race? Last year, I ran Disneyland half and we spent the day walking around Downtown Disney. I didn't do too much but found that come race morning, I was more tired than I expected. I didn't get to bed until 10 pm that night and that was just a bad move all around. When I ran Tinker Bell in January, I was off my feet by 3 pm and we were in bed, lights out, at 8 pm. Tinker Bell was a much better experience and I credit that to getting more rest.

Hi ladies and gentlemen, I'm Jennifer just registered today for the PHM.. Super excited.. I'm doing it to mark my accomplishment on living a more active and healthy lifestyle, I had gained a whole lot of weight after getting mArried and almost a year later had my first boy and almost a year later had my twin boys lol and I managed to lose all that weight plus a whole lot more. I also want to show my kids that if you set your mind to something you can achieve anything.. I look forward to hearing from all you ladies and hope to see you soon... Yay! And after much consideration I will be running as rapunzel my husbands and sons favorite..

Oh awesome!! Are you going to have the big long braid, too?

Fellow PHM ! What a week for us...had someone steal outgoing checks out of our mailbox so spent a few days closing checking account, changing autopays etc. We already had our ss#'s locked so not really worried about a slew of new accounts (that info wasn't on checks). So if at all possible don't put checks to mail in your mailbox! On a brighter note, got hubby and I registered for PHM with race retreat along with reservations at Contemporary. I know there has been talk of Southwest Airlines rates, and I can tell you that it is the end of President's Day week so airfare and hotels are higher since it is a big vacation week. Hubby flies for SWA so we will also be buying tickets to fly since Disney is a huge vacation place anytime of the year.

Our running coach has told us treadmill training is fine for us during the summer as long as it is at a 1% incline or more to replicate the road. I just can't do the humidity in Texas this time of year even early, early in the morning. He assures me that come fall I will be outside.

Just registered for my first Disney race :cool1:

Now I just have to reserve the hotel. I'm thinking of staying in one of the value resorts. I just checked the rates and it's giving me an average of $310-354 for a two night stay. Is there a code/discount that I can enter to get that price lowered?
I would think that we'll hear about any sort of FL Resident / AP Discount / General Public discount around October or November (as per Mousesavers, anyway). Did you check online or just with RunDisney? If you find a kind-of okay deal, I'd go ahead and plunk down the deposit, then just wait. You'll be guaranteed *A* room, but can hold out for a better deal!

Also, rain is my new BFF; barring lightning, I'll take a run in the rain over sunshine any day.
I just did my first run during TS Debbie a few weeks ago - I loved it, up until the point the rain got hard and painful!

I never get a good nights sleep before a race. I am always waking up every hour or so. Much too excited to sleep. I also have bad dreams about missing the race.
I'm the same way, even for a 5k! I'll have to make sure I gt a good sleep the day before the night before the race!

Maybe I'll do that tour the day before the race. I always say I'm going to take one of the tours "someday," but still have yet to take one.

I know exactly where I'm going to have my celebratory dinner though; Be Our Guest restaurant. :goodvibes
It's a great tour! We did it last year.

BOG - What a great choice for your dinner! Since it's not open yet, it didn't even ping my radar when I think about where to eat! I need a place to eat the night before, a breakfast for after the race (currently leaning towards WCC or 1900 PF), then a great dinner. May have to rethink BOG!

I picked Belle too! It was such a hard choice for me, between Ariel and Belle! When I got home and told my hubby that I had to pick a princess, I asked him who he thought I chose and without a single beat missed, he said Belle!

As far as getting enough sleep the night before, it hasn't seemed to affect me too much! Both nights I went to bed at a "decent" time but was so keyed up that I kept waking up all through the night and got a crappy night's sleep. Also, am learning that when I don't get enough sleep, I don't feel well - as in, run to the bathroom b/c I think I'm going to throw up. I figure third time is a charm and I will keep a banana by my bed and get something in my stomach before I even really get up. All that being said, it never really affected my running. There is just so much excitement and adrenaline going that you really are carried far on that. And we toured the parks afterward well into dinner time, so I think my mind's desire to enjoy WDW overrode my body's exhaustion!

Well my hair is pretty long so I won't be wearing a wig but I'll have my hair in a braid with flowers lol.. It's my first 1/2 so I'm going all out.. Getting nervous

I've been told to set your treadmill at an incline to mimic outdoors. 1-3%. It is still very different, but the woman who won our Go! St. Louis Marathon did the majority of her training on the treadmill. I've been using the treadmill a lot lately and when I went outside the other day I found that I shaved 30+ seconds off my time.

Thanks for the response! I've been out of town for 10 days, so I'm going to go catch up on the rest of the thread.

P.S. Every time I see your name, I do a double take, because I'm also a LuLu (LouLou) and my last name begins with an O! :)

That's good to hear!

I just finished catching up on the thread, and I really wish I could register now, but my plan is to register during the Expo at the Food and Wine weekend when I'm there for my first 5K!

Starting to get nervous about this sweep I've heard people talk about. I was so excited and now I'm doubting me registering lol oh well harder training.. I will not be picked up in a bus.

Just train to run a miniumu 15 minute mile and you will be fine. Pick a training plan and stick with it....you can do it

Just signed up this week and I am so excited!! Not to mention that I am doing this with friends. I have run/walk a few 5Ks but I may walk this so that my friends and I can all stay in a group!

That is so weird. :) We call our daughter Lu Lu and our son's name begins with an O.

I just registered for the race too! I was planning on running it and really going for my personal best, but for a race like this I think I want to run/walk it with my friends!
