Is there anyway to merge them so that we aren't having to post/follow 2 separate groups?

To those who have run it before, how are water stations? I'm trying to figure out whether I would need to wear my hydration belt.

Also, to those who have visited my blog, 1st thank you! 2nd) no new posts have been done for a long while because work overtook running. Hoping to resume this week.

The water stations for the Princess were pretty frequent. I ran with my hydration belt and didn't need it too often. This year was on the cool side. All the water stops were set up so that the first set of volunteers were handing out lemon lime powerade. They use the powder mix so the strength varried a bit from one stop to another. Then the next set of voluneers had water. I mostly used my water to get my Cliff Shots down.

Congrats, that's awesome!

I ran my first ever 5K yesterday, it went really well...my goal was to be under 38:00 and I came in at 34:48! I ran it with a friend and her 3 sister-in-law's, all of them take the approach of run for as long as you can then walk when you need to. I follow timed run/walk intervals and right now I do 2 minute run/2 minute walk. They were all amazed that I crossed the finish line with one of them and the rest were only a couple of minutes ahead of me! It was confirmation that, for me, doing timed intervals is the way to go, although as I progress I hope to adjust the intervals to longer running and shorter walking.

My next mini-goal is to do a 10k race towards the end of the summer.

Anybody else race this weekend?

Congrats to you to. That is a great finish time :worship:

Nope, that's why we ended up with 2. LOL The original one was the Open Group and a couple of the more frequent posters were posting some more personal info and decided they would be more comfortable in a closed setting. So they created the other group. The open group has more people, but I left it so I wasn't trying to follow both. I can't say which is more active since I am only in the one now.

Did you know there are already 2 facebook groups set up for the Disney Princess? One is open and one is closed - feel free to join one or both instead of starting a whole new group! I'm sure you find them if you do a search.

Jodi

No, I wasn't aware that there was a FB group at all. I just saw a few pages back that someone suggested we start a fb group, so I did. Sorry.

This is the closed one

They take everyone, just wanted it to feel a little more private.

Should I delete the group I started?

Congrats, that's awesome!

That is an awesome time!! Great job! Lots of my friends that have been running for years run that time consistently at a 5k!!

Good question! I get dry mouth easily, so I will probably bring a hydration belt anyway, and just pick up the powerade and clif.

Way to go!!!! :thumbsup2

I didn't race this weekend, but I have a race for this coming weekend (May 19) that my DD14 is going to do with me :thumbsup2

Thanks for this info! I can get a neat little 'add-on' hydration pod thing from runningwarehouse.com that slips over my spibelt, so I may do that.

That's fantastic - congrats! :yay: Nope, no races here for a long while, but I put in 4 miles Sat. for my first week of TOT 10-Miler training :thumbsup2

Yay, congratulations :yay:! I remember my first 5K...a friend of mine ran it with me, and around mile 2, I was miserable and kept thinking "I'm never doing this again, this is awful!" My friend kept encouraging me and told me I was doing great, to which I thought "huh?" But then we turned the last corner and I saw the finish line, and I understood. It was the most exhilarating feeling ever to see that finish line, with total strangers cheering me on, and finally crossing that line. Now I know why people do this!
My current goal is 10K in early June. I'm a bit behind with my long run so I better catch up :)
Congratulations!

Hi Princesses---We just got back from Disneyland and I found RunDisney pins (They look just like the magnets that are at the Disney Store.com) in Toon Town. I could not believe it. Of course I picked mine up and the cast member said they were brand new. I was a little surpised. But if anyone wants one you can call and order them through Merchandise Guest Services @ 1 877-560-6477. The pins were in the gift shop at ToonTown.

Didn't take my running shoes but we definately put the miles in at the parks day after day after day.

For anyone in the Orlando area or about to go to WDW, the shop at Coronado Springs resort had hot pink RunDisney "in training" tech shirts, pink tech hats, and some mens wear as well.

Also, for 2012 Princess runners, the Character Premiere Outlet (not far from DTD) had marathon and Princess merch from 2012. I got a green 2012 Princess tee for $8.99 and they had the necklaces from 2012 for $5.99 (which is still about $4 more than it's worth imo). They also had a few RunDisney jackets and some Wine&Dine and Disney 1/2, Marathon, and Goofy stuff for 50-80% off.

I saw the pink shirt at the sports store in DTD as well as the shop at the WWoS when I was there to pick up my EEC packet a couple of weeks ago...I bought one at the WWoS store...they seemed to have more in stock there...didn't have my size at DTD. It's a really cute shirt, but when I got home and thought about it, I probably won't be able to wear it until the fall as it's already getting super hot here and I refuse to wear sleeves! (There were some cute shorts too, but I didn't get those.)

Oooh, I'll be in Orlando this weekend and I'm planning a visit to the Vera Bradley outlet - pretty sure it's in the same outlet mall as Character Premiere Outlet. Will check out the gear.

I am doing my first 5K in 2 weekends. I am just wondering how you run intervals in a race. I am doing the Race for the Cure which is a very crowded race around here. How do you go from running to walking without messing other people up? I just can't see them changing every 1 minute or even 2-3 minutes. Any advice?

Tomorrow I get my new orthotics!:banana::banana: I can't wait to get back to running! This rear needs to get in gear! I haven't run at all since I did a half marathon at the end of April :scared1: I am seriously craing some major endorphines!

Just do your thing, but be aware of other people behind you. When you are about to walk, just do what you would do if you were driving a car - check behind you, "pull over" carefully and hang out on the side until you are ready to get back in the traffic! Some people raise their hand and say "walking" but I usually only see that in longer distance races. Good luck!

^^ :thumbsup2 All but 1 of the 4 5Ks I've run so far were crowded and I honestly had little problem doing my intervals. I tried to just stay near the right at all times, making the move to the far right easier when I was ready to walk. Juts be aware of your surroundings and you'll be fine. Good luck and have fun!

It is a great feeling isn't it!! My first 10k is June 9!! :scared1:

If you *know* you are going to walk during the race, start in the back of the pack. I ran a race this past Saturday and there were walkers that started with their toes on the line! Luckily, it was a very small race and no one got ran over.

I've read that walkers should "pull over" AND I've read that they should stay in the middle and let the faster runners stay to the outside so they can pass without weaving in & out.. :confused3

I just read your blog. Amazing!!! Would it be ok if I quote you on my fb?

run… to feel the breeze against my face,

To wave to my neighbors,

To see the family of ospreys nesting down the road.

I run… to hear my footsteps quicken against the pavement,

To show my child how to work toward a goal,

To burn off last night’s cupcake.

I run… to clear my mind,

To get away from pressure and stress,

To find a happy place inside.

I run… to keep a healthy heart,

To beat last month’s pace,

To make a difference in someone else’s life.

I run… to see shiny medals around my neck,

To feel a deep, inner sense of pride,

To feel pain and joy and exhaustion and know that I am alive.

I run…
Because I can

This just made me cry!! :lovestruc

Last week I posted about going for a RunFast assessment. Well, I decided that since I was worried about my achilles, I needed to go just to make myself feel better. It was not covered by insurance and was $125! So far I am beyond happy with what has happened and I have only had my 1st appointment.

Today I met with the head Physical Therapist of the medical center. He spend 1.5 hours with me doing a complete assessment of my entire lower body. He check strength, flexibility, balance, how I walk, how I stand, how I run. He then video taped me walking and running (both on the floor and on the threadmill). From there he gave me a series of exercises just for what I need. Basically I am weaker on the side of my surgery but not much. On the flip side, my calf muscle on the right side it tighter than the left which leads to discomfort. He said it could cause more issues when my distances get longer. All the exercises and stretches are specifically for what I need. From here I go back in 3 weeks and we review the tapes and do another video session.

Plus I can email with specific issues/questions as they come up! I am so happy I did this and he said my goal of running the Princess is completely medically OK!

Hi everyone!

I have been lurking here for a few weeks. I am planning on doing the Princess for my 40th. We will also be doing the Family 5K.

I've never run a day in my life. I was a dancer from basicaaly birth through college. Then I put on quite a bit of wieght during graduate school and with children. My goal is to lose 20 pounds through the elipical machine and rowing -- then begin running (I don't know if my knee can take all the extra weight). So far, I've lost 7 of the 20 -- so I am on my way!

I can't wait to meet everyone in February! :cheer2:

Wow, y'all should come around my hometown - last summer I ran in a 5K in which I took 31st place -- and there were 33 people in the race :lmao: I'm signing up for a 10K this summer that I've not done yet, and from past results, it looks as if about 50 people sign up for it!

Yes we get some more crowded races too - I think there were about 600 at the Turkey Trot - and I know that our full marathon brings in a lot of people since its a BQ - but in general, races around here be very quiet, which is a good thing and a bad thing lol!
