Well, ladies- I bit the bullet today and snipped the end off Vaylie's pacis. :scared:

I just snipped the very tip off. So far, so good. She put one in her mouth and started to suck, then started laughing because she was sucking air in and making a funny noise. She has generally accepted the idea that they are "broken." She tried them both, pronounced them broken, and handed them back to me.

I'm just worried about naps, and worse yet- sleeping tonight! But, I figure- hey, maybe I'll actually be awake to ring in 2009, so what the heck. We've been basically limiting them to sleep and car rides anyway, but it's starting to get to where she's hiding them all over and she has figured out how to keep them in while she talks (or she'll take it out, say what she needs to say, then pop it back in). So, since we're getting close to her 2nd birthday, I figured no time like the present... Wish me luck!

Becky - That dinner cruise sounds so cool!! Wish I was going on that!! Too funny about snipping the ends of Vaylie's paci's. I have never heard of that...but makes perfect sense! Maybe she will surprise you and be fine without them when sleeping. Keep us posted!

I am desperately trying to get Brady to take a nap today. Ok...all you mommies that have had kids with ear infections, I have a question. We started the Amoxicillin on Sunday. Monday he will still pretty bad, but yesterday he seemed a lot better, and last night he actually slept! He has had a cough from the beginning...and today his cough is what sounds worse. It seems deeper and has more substance to it. I can't tell if it's breaking up, and that is why it sounds so much worse? Or maybe it has settled into his chest? He's not wheezing or anything...but the cough is horrid. Is this normal? Are we on the up-swing of this? Or are we entering into a whole new phase of sickness? :confused3

And now I'm going to kill DH....he just announced that he needs to snow-blow the driveway RIGHT NOW (since we are getting about 6-8 inches of snow and we are leaving after Brady wakes up for Boston. Brady JUST fell asleep....and his window is right above the driveway. DH thinks it will be fine.........SO HELP ME GOD.....if he wakes him up....it will not be pretty around here.

Things are not going so good here. Vaylie was fine with the "broken" pacis, until it was time to lay down for a nap. I'm starting to wonder if I did the right thing. It's breaking my heart. I just thought it would be easier now than down the road, kwim?

But, she keeps holding them and crying "broken". I let her get back out of bed, and figured she'll be exhausted in an hour or so, and we'll try again.

Kelly- I would think if the cough sounds worse and there's more substance that it's the phlegm loosening and he's coughing to expel it. Generally, if it has settled in the chest you would hear him wheezing or rattling.

I hope everyone that's sick is feeling better. We've already had our share of sickness here and are on the recovering end.

Becky - the trip to Cali sounds like fun and a cheaper option! :thumbsup2 Sorry that things aren't going well with the pacis, but you're probably right that it will be easier now than down the road. Too bad I can't snip the top off of Alex's thumb. ;)

Michelle - Scarlett fever - yikes! :scared1: I had that when I was like 9 years old, and I just remember being so hot and it hurt to open my eyes. I hope your in-laws are feeling better soon. And it's never too early to start planning your next Disney trip! We just got back and I don't know when the next trip is going to be, but I am ready to start planning!

Kelly - Brady looks so sad in the sick picture, but it looks like he had a great x-mas before that! Usually when the cough sounds "worse" it is breaking up and getting better, unless it is sounding more hoarse or wheezy. If it is really horrid and not phlegmy at all, it could be whooping cough. There was a baby at the hospital with that when I had my appendix out earlier this year, and it was the saddest thing I ever heard. It almost sounded more like barking than coughing. :sad2: Poor little guy, hopefully Brady's cough is breaking up and it just sounds bad. Try some time in the steamy shower to encourage it to break up more.

Happy New Year everyone!!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

We're staying home tonight and having my family come over, so nothing too exciting, but it should still be fun! Oh, and some good news. DH found a job at local restaurant. The pay isn't as good as before, so he's going to keep looking for a 2nd job, but some pay is better than no pay! :thumbsup2 Today was his first day, and I don't know what time he will be getting off, but that's ok. He usually doesn't make it up to midnight anyway!

Happy New Year!!

(Just wanted to get that out of the way because I know I won't be awake at midnight ;) ).

Pollito- Congrats on your DH getting a job! You're right- some pay is waaay better than nothing.

Happy New Year everyone!

Polito, congrats on your DH finding a job! I know it's hard finding something in this economy...hope he can find that 2nd job soon. DH is trying to find something new, too. His job is just getting worse and worse, and there's a good chance he'll get laid off in the spring.

We're going to our friends' house for their annual New Year's Eve party. It's a "bring the kids, stay as long as you can hold out" informal kind of thing, but it's always fun. Most of the kids that come show up in their PJ's, and last year one of the families came with everyone in their PJ's - mom and dad, too! It was a riot. We just have fun hanging out, and we say happy new year every hour with where ever it's happening, so even those of us that have to leave early with kiddos get a chance to cheer.

In our neighborhood, there's always illegal fireworks at midnight, so even if we go to bed early, we'll be woken up by all that noise. I'm hoping Owen will sleep through it, but at the very least I hope it doesn't scare him.

Happy New Year everyone! I'm working tonight, so I'm heading off to bed. Hopefully all the really stupid people stay home tonight rather than finding some new and improved way to injure themselves....

Kelly - Christopher is just getting over the same thing. He was generally better about 3 days after he started the antibiotics, but the cold is still hanging on 10 days later. Have you tried putting a humidifier in his room? It seems to help.

Pollito - Yay for DH's job!!!!

Becky - :grouphug: on the paci's. Good luck!

Bethany - the party sounds like fun! Everyone around here tends to do bonfires, so it's always hard to bring Christopher. He hates to be in his snow gear for too long, and doesn't get the idea of sitting and watching the fire, not playing in it :) It's much easier to work than to have to explain why I won't get a babysitter so I can stand around and try to keep drunk guys from falling into a fire......

Well, I hope everyone had a good and safe New Year's! It was pretty quiet around here. My mom's birthday is today, so we did a lunch there and then went shopping, which was disappointing- I even had GIFT cards, and Christmas money, and still couldn't find anything I wanted to buy. Boo. All I came home with was cotton balls, make-up sponges and overnight diapers. Oh, and a Yo Gabba Gabba movie for Vaylie. I did use my 3 random wal-mart gift cards for those, though.

Vaylie is still kind of upset about the pacis, although it hasn't been TOO horrible. Just a little horrible. I just feel bad. It's like I took her friend away. Last night she kept kissing one of them and saying, "Aaawww, paci. Broken. *smooch* Aaawww, paci." :sad2: Like she was trying to kiss it and make it better. I just keep reminding myself that she won't remember this in 20 years, so it shouldn't do too much damage.

Oh, great deals on www.crocs.com on Disney crocs!!! I got Vaylie a pair of Minnie Janes for $11.99 (FREE shipping!!!)! Go to the site, click on "outlet" and pick out your shoes. Then, when you check out it's already free shipping, and use the code "channel08" for an additional 20% off. :yay: I love great bargains! They have adult crocs and non-disney crocs, too. I liked the "sporty adara" sandals, but they didn't have the cute white ones in my big foot size. Oh well.

Hi I am a new mom (Sept 25 2008) to Caleb. I have been over on the new moms to be thread and guess I am not a mom to be anymore ( I was just still in denial that my baby is already 3 mos old)
I'll post a pic when I am home sometime...do most of my dissing at work when I have time.

Aww, Becky, that's so sad, that would almost make me go out and buy her more pacis, but you're right, it's for the best and she'll get over it soon.

Sounds like everyone had a nice new year's. DH actually made it to midnight for the first time I can remember in recent years. Not much past, like maybe 12:30, but it's still an accomplishment! :thumbsup2

Welcome K Reile! Post pics when you get a chance. Some of us aren't really such *new* moms anymore (my DS will be 2 in February! ), but we still like to hang out here. :goodvibes

:wave2: Hi K Reile!!! I remember you over there! I haven't posted there since the summer, which is cool I guess seeing as my twins are almost 14 months! Welcome to you, this is a fun bunch! :goodvibes

Welcome K Reile!! Can't wait to see pics of Caleb!! :goodvibes

Jen - That stinks that Christopher had the same thing as Brady....sickness stinks!! Ya, I think his ear is better since now he is sleeping (for the most part) - but the cough is still there, which is what sometimes wakes him at night. We do have a cool-mist humidifier in his room, which is helping (I think!).

Sounds like everyone had a great New Years! Hard to believe that it is already 2009...god how time flies!

Last night and today DH and I have been uploading our mini DVD's to the computer and burning real DVD's of our last Disney trip. Brady looks soooooooooooo small...and it was only 4 months ago! He wasn't walking and was talking so much less. Brady loves watching them....I'm not sure he totally understands that the little boy is actually him. But he loves labeling everyone that comes on the screen..."mama", "dada", "bry-bry" (Uncle Bryan)...too cute. :)

I cannot do this anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm angry, upset, and really, really tired!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :headache:

I don't know what else to feed Mo. He eats Mac n Chz, Fruits, FF, and some veggies(beans and broccoli) and THAT'S IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He used to eat eggs and won't now...used to eat waffles and won't now! He'll eat mozz cheese but I have trouble with grilled cheese. He'll eat baby food still but he's a year old and I can't keep giving him that! Meat is hard to come by because we eat kosher so I don't keep a lot of chicken in the house, but guess I should now since it's the ONLY protein my son will eat. What the hell do I feed him for breakfast. Yo-Baby and applesauce????!!!!! I'm lost and so angry and at Mo. He's just a baby, he can't tell me what he wants but when I'm throwing away so much food and not having a lot of choices to feed him, I get frustrated. Guess I'll cook up some more mac n cheese. Oh well...no one said it was supposed to be easy, but damn............................

(((hugs))) Denise! I was freaking-out a few months back about the low variety of things Brady would eat. My ped told me it takes something like 18 attempts with a new food before a child may want to actually eat it. So, I guess bottom line is to keep trying new things, because one day he might actually enjoy it! ;) Also....why do you think on kids menu's around the world there are the same staple-items....mac and cheese, chicken nuggets, grilled cheese, pizza, etc...! Kids just like those things! We attempt to give Brady everything we eat to expose him to a wide-variety. That doesn't mean he actually eats it all, though! If we are having pasta, and he won't eat it, I simply give him a veggie or fruit that I know he will eat. Then maybe a dessert of graham crackers or a yogurt or something. I won't make him an entirely new meal. Eventually they will learn to eat (or at least attempt) what they are served!

Denise, have you tried dry cereal or buttered toast? He might eat those for breakfast. Just keep ofering foods, and he will get it. I still freak out about Sam& Zoe's eating, but I keep telling myself just to let it go.

I have a couple of books on feeding children by Ellen Satter. A lot of what she says makes sense. She talks about division of responsibility in eating. Parents are responsible for what is presented to eat and the manner it is presented (soo..healthy balanced meals and snacks served at predictable times each day) and Children are responsible for what to eat, how much to eat, or wether to eat at all.
For what it's worth, I have been a little more relaxed at mealtimes lately. I generally offer 3- 4 food choices , generally what we are eating first, and I usually offer some fruit at the end. out of their choices, we usually have one sure thing they will eat, one maybe thing, and one new/not preffered choice (hoping eventually they will try it).

Not sure how this fits in with Kosher Menu choices, but good luck on getting Mo to eat!

Denise - First, it's OKAY and you are doing great. This is not unusual at all in toddlers.

My DS used to eat so much more foods but he has gotten super picky in the last few months. He'll LOVE grilled cheese one day and won't touch it a day or two later. He LOVES Mac n Chz too. Do you make it from scratch? I used to use Kraft before I realized how much he was eating so now I make it from scratch, it barely takes anymore time and is a lot more healthy for him.

For breakfast we do a waffle, toast with PB, pancake and fruit. Sometimes I will mix in the gerber cereal with the applesauce to make it more full. We also keep pedisure on hand or vanilla carnation instant breakfasts.

There is nothing wrong with yogurt and applesauce for breakfast. Toddlers thrive on routine and predicatibility so serving the same things is ok, as long as they get well rounded meals through a week or so. DS won't touch veggies but he'll eat veggies chips and nearly every fruit so that's what he gets.

Try not to freak out too much about it. Mo will be fine no matter what he eats and just make sure to keep offering him new foods. Either what you are eating for dinner or your leftovers from dinner the day after.

Oh I feel your pain. Noah has yet to be a decent eater and then throw in that he's allergic to milk and alot of the foods you ladies are suggesting he can not have. We go back to the allergist Feb 3rd so I'm hoping after his blood test they will say he's no longer allergic. He was only boarderline before but if it comes back as not anymore then we get to do an actual milk test and see how he does since he could be allergic to something in the milk that is not what the blood work tests for. Ahhhh and on top of all of that he's supposed to move to his new classroom at daycare the week after he turns one and they just do real food over there and no baby food so we have to figure out what he can and can't have and what we have to substitute for the nutritional factor and stuff like that. I am so not looking forward to it.

Oh and I forgot to mention in my frustration about the eating....Moshe only naps about 20 minutes at a time now. Wonderful. :guilty: :sad2: I'm just trying to figure out what happened. He used to take 45 minutes to an hour naps and now....less than 30.

Denise..he could very well be ready to go to one nap..try it and see. He is growing up! :goodvibes :cloud9:  I am beyond ready for the twins to go to one nap! It means we can get out for a longer time in the morning!
