Is it just me or are these not as good value as the old Hopper tickets?

I have been looking at advance purchase for next year's holiday and, unless you purchase the Hopper option and no expiry, they are not as flexible as the old Hopper used to be.

When we visited last year, we stayed for 14 days but only used 3 days of the old Hopper pass so we have 2 days left for use this year (for a 7 day visit).

Next year, it looks as though we will have to buy a 14 day ticket or a 7 day ticket with no expiry and, either way, we will have to add the Hopper option if we want to visit more than 1 park on the same day.

Has anyone else found these tickets to be quite inflexible or have you managed to find a way to do it cheaper?

I believe the point was to offer a lower-cost option for folks who didn't need park-hopping and/or didn't need no expiration. They're actually a lot more flexible than has been available in the past, since you get to pick and choose among the available extra-cost options, instead of having them included whether you want them or not.

The trouble with them is that most of the UK vendors I see are only selling the 5, 7 and 14 day tickets and most of those they force you to take the hopper or plusses whether you want them or not. If you go to an American company (like we did) you can actually get your choice of ticket - the whole idea of Magic Your Way I thought.

When you can choose how many days you want and exactly what options you do or don't want, then they are much better than the old Hoppers in my opinion.

Ah, that makes a lot of sense. While Disney is providing more flexibility than before, not all resellers are necessarily doing so. Thanks for clearing that up.

Steve Rob, any recommendations on a good place to buy the tickets then?

Thanks

Personally, I went through Ticketmania. They send the actual tickets, not vouchers, have free postage to the UK and will normally deliver in under 2 weeks. Plus if you're worried about anything going astray in the post, you can pick them up from their office just off International Drive.

Using ticketmania, these prices are insane. Usual Rip-Off Britian.

I was looking for 2adults - 2children:

Disney UK stores are charging for Disney's 5 Day Premium Ticket total of £614.00 2d2c

While a 7 Day Magic Your Way Child ages 3 -9 Expiry w/ Park Hopping for the four of us $860 (£500.00 roughly)

Have I done my sums wrong? How can the price difference be THAT much???

It would not surprise me :( but above you have quoted a 2 adult & 2 children price against a 4 children price which would make a bit (not a lot!) of difference. Unless I have misunderstood your post?

Also, (I'm not sure how the 5 day premium ticket works to be honest) are you comparing a ticket that expires to a ticket that doesn't expire?

No, that's actually the standard advanced purchase price for two adults plus two children:
http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/tickets.htm#ph

$234 x 2 + $196 x 2 = $860.

Those are regular MYW tickets, not Premium MYW tickets, which would be $1038 (£594.80), total. So it looks like Disney's UK stores are charging a £20 surcharge, perhaps to cover postal charges and handling.

Edit - was posting at the same time; Bicker just beat me to it!

I think the big difference in price comes from that fact that you're quoting the Basic ticket price from Ticketmania (ie. no park hopping, no plus options) versus the Premium ticket from the Disney Store, which includes both of those options.

Two adults & two children with a SEVEN day Premium ticket (expires after 14 days) from Ticketmania comes to $1,038. Based on the current tourist exchange rate, that is £607.50. So that's two days MORE at Disney and £6.50 cheaper than the Disney Store

However, if you didn't want the Hopping and Plus options, then yes, your price is right - because the Disney store is charging you for options you don't want / need (they only sell Premium tickets - not Basic ones), Ticketmania would be the way to go as you'd be saving even more than my example above.

Thank you Steve Rob, that's what I was trying to say! Badly, obviously :teeth:

Based on the current tourist exchange rate
Yes, rather than a £20 surcharge, it could just be a small variance in the exchange rate from what the rate was at the time the prices were quoted and the close of the currency markets on Friday.

Whenever I need to convert anything from $ to £, rather than use a currency converter (like XE.com) which use the market prices, I use the rates on Travelex.co.uk as these are the tourist rates and as I've found, seem to match up pretty well to the rate I get on my credit card when buying from the US (once my bank have taken their 2.75% commission!)

We are gpoing to buy the 10 day + 5 additional parks (water parks etc)
MYW tickets from MapleLeaftickets in Kissimmee next month.

At $384 dollars for adults, and $342 for child - these are discounted prices - I reckon they are good value, so why buy them in the UK?

These never expire and you can hop from park to park too, as we do not spend excessive amounts of time around the Disney theme parks we believe these could last us possibly 4 more holidays. Especially as we already have some old hopper's with a few days left on.

No, actually, my original post was correct. I was quoting ticketmaina:

7 Day Magic Your Way Child ages 3 -9 $196.00 x 2 = $392.00
GKO11 - Expiry w/ Park Hopping

7 Day Magic Your Way Adult $234.00 x2 = $468.00
GKO01 - Expiry w/ Park Hopping
Total $860.00 (£500-ish)

Versus:

Disney UK stores are charging for Disney's 5 Day Premium Ticket total of £614.00 2 adults 2 children

I lose the water parks and expiry, but gain two theme park days, keep the park hoping and save just over £100.

No brainer I think!

14 day tickets are not Magic Your Way but may suit your needs. They have different expiration rules and cannot have more days or non-expiration added.

Before deciding to use up the remains of old tickets, price out all new tickets for your entire vacation. You may find it worthwhile to save the old tickets for a future vacation when you don't need to buy new tickets.
