The New Lizard Lounge

I want to be a lounge lizard in training (since I won't be staying CL until July). I just got my letter from the IPO at the Beach Club and I am so excited! Our trip is the last week of July (my birthday :cheer2: ) and my parents are coming for the first time and we have upgraded all of us to CL level for land portion of our vaction.

Please let me join your happy lounge family :grouphug: !

WELCOME Zachsmommie! Hope you enjoy your stay here! Pull up a comfy chair, grab some orange-guava juice, and join the conversation. :wave2:

Hi all!!

Just stopping by to say - no babies or puppies but I have two tiny little kittens! One orange and one black. They are so cute.

Kittens work! After all... one of the lizards adopted a kitten right near Christmas! Oh I wish I had more time to keep up with everyone! Welcome new lizards and big hugs to the other lizards! You'll have a great time here!

oooh, that sounds like our first rescue, almost 16 years ago! One black and one orange is what we kept from a litter of four kittens of a feral mom. They were only 4 wks. old and had to be bottle fed. We weaned all four, found homes for 2 and kept the other 2.

I get to have a new counter! Just booked my May trip for the Lizard mini-meet. Now I feel right again!

That sounds like so much fun! Congrats on getting to add a new "counter", Steveanddonna! Personally, I miss the old counters. So much so that I had to go find the code and put it on a page of my website just so I could check it every few days and see if I'm still in triple digits. :teeth: Sadly, yes I am. :(

I guess we won't really be having the "double" and "single digit" dances anymore. Well, maybe not as much. But I'll be doing one. . .in <sigh> 113 days.

It's lunch time. What do we serve for lunch around here? Shall I put out a fruit plate and yogurt dip? Or are hot wings more the thing?

Can we have both? The fruit can remind us of sunny Florida and the HOT wings can melt some of this snow! Got another 12+ inches last night. It's getting old. I took my time getting to work this morning. I stopped at Best Buy to buy Bambi out today on DVD. It came with a really cute Thumper plush. I think I'll save that for DD's Easter basket. I also bought a new DVD player since ours has been broken for weeks.

I have to confess to Tammy who also got hit with this snow that it might be all my fault. I've been trying to explain to DD what the expression "March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb" means. I think she understands the lion part now. :teeth:

Steph-congrats on your plane tickets. I was looking at flights for Oct a few weeks ago and Song was $69 each way but now I can't get a flight down for any day of the week I want to go for under $124. I've got $94/person vouchers for Song so even at $193 (124 + 69) I'd only be actually paying $101 but I'm going to keep an eye on it in the hopes the rates drop again before the vouchers expire on 7/4/05. And hope the return flight doesn't go up to $124.....Why didn't I just buy the tickets when I saw them?

:rotfl2: We had the same conversation here in Western Mass this morning, lovesdumbo! Believe it or not, even my kids are sick of snow at this point and are certainly wise enough to know that every snow day spent now means another hot school day in June...

Been there... said that! Although I must say you are the model of persistence when it comes to scouting out ticket deals. ::yes:: Goofy learned a lot from you last year and it paid off in our December flight. Sprinkling some PD your way in the hope that you spot a fabulous deal!

Thanks for the munchies today, Steph H!

Has anyone noticed that not only is Disney not discounting, but the airlines seem to not be going as low, either? Just got an email from airtran for their early summer discount sale. They are decent, but not nearly as low as they used to be!

Tired of March.. lets bring on April!

You can have a few of our missed days--it seems at least 1x a week since Christmas! Slight overstatement--we may have actually had a full week of school once or twice in January and February! Hey, I love my kids and enjoy their company, but c'mon--they need to be in school now so they aren't later! :guilty:

Ever the optimist, at least they had an extra full day to work on some major assignments (research reports) handed out last week just in time for the end of quarter grading period! :sad2: Grrrrr. . .I hate it when major assignments are given with less than a week to go in the quarter--the kids think they've aced all their classes and then, uh oh--here comes a couple of assignments (500 points total) that could toss a monkey wrench into the whole works!

No offense Debbie--and any other teachers out there, but this is just a habit for some of those less organized teachers. Parent/teacher conferences were last week (I know, what the hey, report cards aren't even out yet?) and one of these teachers says as she giggles demurely, "I don't have many grades in my gradebook SO, I will be assigning 500 points worth of assignments due March 4!" I won't bore you with the assignment details, but trust me--my kid worked Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and all day today (with minimal breaks to eat and stretch) just to get ONE of them done! Generous to give the kids a whole 9 days to complete the two pieces of work!

I guess my biggest problem with the whole thing is that the kids do have other classes AND those teachers also have homework assignments they would like to have completed as well! Our son takes a heavy load of classes with APs, etc., he pulled this off with a couple days to spare, but it sure was stressful! I guess it's good practice for college life in another year or so.

Our daughter's assignment was one involving M. C. Escher and tessellations. While that is no biggie--have you ever tried to find the history of a specific tessellation? Let me just tell you, there is no history to be found on "Shells and Starfish"! :rotfl: Between the two of us, we've searched the web through Google and MSN, utilized all of the high school accessible databases, sites, and search engines including InfoTrac I and Pro, a book about Escher and his tessellations, AND consulted the library! All we could get is minimal technical information about the specific tessellation. Now, others do have interesting little bits of history--unfortunately, she didn't choose Alhambra or one of the others that Escher truly loved and spoke about! :rotfl:

Now that I've had my little rant. . .
pass me a cordial--I don't care what it is--my day has been filled with research and project assistance! :rotfl: I'm ready for a little freedom from thought! :rotfl2:

Now Debbie, aren't you glad you went to school today and saved some poor parent my despair? ;)

:earseek: :earseek: Yikes, Tess! You're definitely scaring me about high school! But what the heck... if you're pouring I'll join you. There are nights when watching my 5th grader produce 15 "good" spelling sentences is enough to make me want to tear my hair out! Don't even get me started about his approach to creative writing assignments... think "watching grass grow" and you'll get the correct visual. Looks like I'll be witness to lots of fun in the years ahead! :drinking1

Debbie... I guess one of the down sides in being out of the "active planning mode" is that I haven't been paying enough attention to pricing. I have noticed a lot of posts about lack of availability lately... should have figured that would translate into less deals to be had. We still have no clue about what we're doing this summer... could very well be a non-Disney destination, I guess. I really admire those who have several trips planned out into the future!

That's hysterical!

I am totally cracking up! OK, OK, I promise not to EVER give out big assignments when the quarter is almost over! I tend to give the long term assignments in the middle, but where I teach most things are better done at school than at home. If I want them to learn and finish, they learn and finish with me.

My son actually apologized to me this morning when he found out that he didn't have school, but I did! We're in one of those "always called off" districts, too. The rural areas just can't handle blowing snow or rain ontop of packed back dirt roads. While I would love to live closer to work, I prefer my environment right where I am! :)

Debbie <----who also just got scared out of HS reading Tess' post! Thanks for making me smile!

Okay, I'm officially sick of the snow! Another day off from school and we all just got back from school vacation. They completely blew the forecast here (as usual) and we got something like 12" of snow. Tonight was ice skating, so I drove into town for that and came out to more snow. Another white knuckle drive home. At least everyone around me was driving slow too. I don't think we got above 40 on the highway.

Tess, I agree with you about these last minute assignments. Something that big should be given much more time. I love Eschers Shell's & Starfish, but you're right, there's not much out there in reference to that piece. By the way, I'll stick to teaching kindergarten thanks.

I haven't been following the discounts, or lack thereof because I don't have a trip planned until next year . I'm living vicariously through my fellow DIS'ers right now. We've got too much skating stuff coming up over the next few months to even try to squeeze something in. Oh well, gives us lots to look forward to.

Oh if everyone felt that way! My kids are lucky--they have a support system at home AND the candle power to handle this stuff. What about those poor kids without a computer, parents who are willing (or even able) to help, and lack the motivation to even try! While I play the mini-violin for myself now and again, I really do feel for those type of students as well. No wonder so many kids fall behind. Thankfully we do have good teachers in our schools who really care and make an effort to "teach"! :cheer2: :cheer2:

 Room wave to the Lounge Lizards! I haven't posted on this thread in forever, and I wanted to check in!

I can actually join in on the snow conversation for once, LOL! It actually snowed here yesterday! Yep, that’s right—snow in Georgia! It didn’t stick on the roads, so we had school/work. The really funny part was the poor weather man didn’t get to panic everybody into running to the grocery store to buy all the milk, eggs, bread, and bottled water. I know he looks forward to panicking everyone, so I’m sure he was bummed. The snow just came out of nowhere overnight and is not gone just as quickly as it came.

We’re planning a quick long weekend getaway to WDW in May, and I’m hoping for good AP rates soon. We are toying with the idea of upgrading from Pop Century to POFQ, but my digital camera broke, so it looks like that’s probably out of the question. I’m not bummed though, since I am fortunate enough to have WL concierge to look forward to this December. I’ve never done CL there, and I’m excited to try it. :)
