Just finished reading your TR. I've been trying to get to it for over a week!

I'm STILL trying to get over it!!

I'm also trying to adopt your approach - a kinder gentler me, hopefully not so commando next trip. Ha, who am I kidding?

I don't know if that approach will ever work again...it was different, that's for sure - totally out of character for me! As crazy as it sounds though it was a lot of fun. I don't know if I can do it for more than a few days

Guess I'll have to be my own guinea pig on the next trip!

My son will put anything in his mouth. After the sand incident, he was walking around on the grass and found a potato chip from the party this weekend. Yup, he picked it up and ate it! Last week, he dipped his cracker in the bird bath! Double ! He's going to be the death of me!

She is the lovely woman who answered the phone today at DVC Member Services, that’s who.

I must first give you a bit of background…

I received notice yesterday that I “won” the week of May 24th thru May 31, 2008 at our company’s condo in Breckenridge, Colorado. Cool. Thanks. I really wanted the Orlando condo. I don’t want to sound ungrateful. I didn’t let ‘em see me pout. I waited till I got home. Stomped my feet. Did the “pouty lip” thing. Complained about it to DH, who promptly became excited about the prospect of going to Colorado. We’ve always talked about going out there some day. Well, now’s our chance. All it will cost us is food and airfare/rental car. But will it? Is that all it will cost, gentle readers??

Nope. It has now officially cost me my September vacation in Disney World. GASP. Choke…

Let’s place the blame where it really, really belongs. On the school system.

Yes, you read right. The school system.

Michael’s only allowed to miss 10 days of school per year. Or what? They haven’t told me that part. So far he’s missed 11 from kindergarten. Yes, we like to live on the edge. Push the envelope as far as we can. Just to find out what our options are…

So, the September trip would have him out of school for 5 days…basically we’re starting with a clean slate as he’ll be in first grade. If they let him graduate kindergarten that is.

Which is looking almost as possible as seeing Elvis in K-Mart these days.

The trip to Colorado would be another 4 days out of school. Now he’s up to 9 days – and we haven’t even factored in sick days yet.

Ok, this won’t do. There has to be a way around it. To have my cake and eat it too. What? No 2008 trip to WDW? Are you kidding me? I can’t do that. It’s not physically possible. It would make me ill. Physically and mentally ill.

I had a couple of hours in the dentist’s chair this morning which is good for thinking…

Since I can’t speak to anyone while getting a root canal, there’s no one to talk me into or out of things. I can think somewhat clearly…No one interrupting my thoughts. Except the guy who occasionally tells me to swallow.

Easy there, Tracy….

Anywhooo…as I’m in the chair I begin to try and come up with a plan around this whole Colorado/Disney World thing…First I began to wonder if we could SOMEHOW drive to Disney Land…is it close enough? Would DH flip his wig if I even mention doing that? Where exactly IS Colorado?

Ok, so that was getting me nowhere. Note to self…upon arriving at work – or should I go home and take a sick day? – Check out Michael’s 2007-2008 school calendar for days off. Maybe, just maybe, he’ll have a long weekend like he did in January and we can sneak down for one (or two) quick trips in 2008, so I don’t go insane or into shock from withdrawl.

I ran home, checked Dis real quick, printed out the school calendar and without thinking, stuffed it into my backpack and headed out to work. I must’ve looked like quite the sight…drooling uncontrollably out of the corner of my mouth, mouth curled to the right like Bill Murray’s Caddyshack character…”Bark like a dog…”

Anywho…I get to work just in time to unpack my laptop and go to lunch! Sweeeet…

I sit down with my salad and Michael’s school calendar…cruising, cruising…but wait…what’s this??? January 21st – Martin Luther King, Jr. Day…No School. GASP! What’s THIS??? January 22 – 23rd – Protected Teacher Workdays…NO SCHOOL…

I immediately knew what a person might feel if they realized they just circled each one of the Powerball numbers on their ticket…Three consecutive days off from school…Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Hmmmmm….I can do something with this…

I run, don’t walk, to my laptop. Go to Word, print out a calendar for January, 2008 and let the fun begin. Well, if they have the first three days of the week off…they’re not going to get anything done on Thursday…After that comes Friday….it’s always a party day in Kindergarten, so it probably is a party day in first grade. Especially with such a short week. He can miss Friday too…

What’s this? I have 7 consecutive winning numbers circled on my calendar….January 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25. What? The weekend is here already? Add Saturday the 26th and Sunday the 27th if you don’t mind…I'm sure I'll add it later anyway...

DONE.

I decide that it’s a good plan. A solid plan.

I need to call Member Services and book it. NOW.

What’s this? Lunch is over? Already? That’s ok. I’ll call anyway…how long can it take?

Now you may ask, why not take care of those reservations on line? Why? Sure, it’s fast, it’s easy. But you have to wait to receive confirmation as to whether or not your date/place is available. I can’t wait. I need it. Now.

And I want…no, I NEED, someone to tell me to have a magical day…the novacaine is wearing off…

Before I dial, I realize this trip will change my financial landscape for the next 12 months…

I have a quickie trip coming up in August…Michael’s birthday in September, Tony’s (and my mother’s) birthday in November, Christmas, insurance renewals, etc…all to help me ring in 2008.

Now, if we’re going to Colorado in May, how can we possibly afford a week in Disney World only 4 months before??? UGH…back to the drawing board…

Oh – I know…CREDIT CARDS!!!

Ok, so we’ve got that part solved…however, I could save SEVERAL hundred dollars by staying at a DVC resort on points, rather than pay out of pocket, which was the current plan, to stay at Port Orleans French Quarter…

Ok. So I’m now booking 2 trips…one in August…a quickie. And one in January. Ready?

Oooh – wait…Sheila…for grins and giggles, can you see if maybe, perhaps, possibly, a boardwalk view studio is available? Just in case…

Turns out a boardwalk view studio IS available! BUT...there’s always a big but for me, isn’t there? Watch it, Tracy!

The available unit is only available for Friday and Saturday night…we’d have to change to a preferred view room on Sunday night. Ok, not a big deal…Book it, Dan-O!!

Ok, so I get my 2 confirmation numbers and we talk points. Sheila says I have 54 points available for banking now and a total of 107 to use or lose by August 31st.

Turns out, I’d borrowed into 2006 points for the December trip, then borrowed into 2007 points for the April trip, which I’d cancelled. I’d used some at the Poly…and some at SSR in January. Now I had 107 to use by the end of August or they’d turn into a pumpkin come September 1st!! I couldn’t make a reservation and use them LATER…I had to use them BY August 31st.

I was now thanking my lucky stars in more ways than one for our upcoming Focker meet…

Ok, so back to the drawing board we went…Sheila just couldn’t let me waste those points…she wasn’t havin’ it. Nope. She was going to help a sista out if it took all day. Which, by the way, it nearly did. I believe I set a record for longest Member Services call this day.

So we went through every DVC resort and possibly room combo there was…this many nights at a 1 bedroom put me at 125…nope. Not good. This many nights at a studio put me at 54. Nope…still not enough…Ah ha…a studio at SSR for 6 nights did the trick!!

Now, if you’ve been paying attention to me, and my Murderer’s Row group of co-horts, PrincessV, Disneyland_Mama and DisneyJo, you’d know that we had this Focker meet planned for the night of August 25th.

What started out as a chick weekend for me, suddenly included my DS and my DH – who is now golfing with DisneyJo’s DH (and MAYBE Disneyland_Mama’s DH)…So, my party has grown from 1 person for 3 nights into a party of 3 for 3 nights…into a party of 3 for SIX NIGHTS…

That’s right gang…SIX NIGHTS in August…

If you know me at all, I’m no where near being Mother-of-the-Year, so a few days outta school won’t kill him. Really, if you know me WELL, you’ll know that he doesn’t pay attention in school anyway…what’s he going to miss??

So Sheila and I booked a 1 bedroom at SSR for January 18th through the 25th…to start. I’m sure I’ll add at least a day on to the end…

But wait, Sheila says...SSR is a GREAT place...why don't we do some requests?

Were we separated at birth??? I do the EXACT same thing. Anytime I have done anything without DH approval, I always start the conversation with, "Honey, I love you...." And I always get ...."WHAT DID YOU DO??" or "HOW MUCH IS THIS GOING TO COST ME!?!?"

I have seriously enjoyed your reportS in this report...too much fun! Let me just say that your son is soooooooo adorable!!!!!!! What a cutie pie! So have u broken the news to DH yet? My Dh and I have been having some "talks" about how we shouldn't plan another trip so soon after the last (um hello its year's difference) and he isn't really aware that I am still planning it...that should be fun to explain- so i feel your pain! Hey I volunteer I will tell yo uDH about your trip

In my eyes he is one lucky man, my DW already told me that after our WDW trip in Sept/Oct that she wants to go somewhere else for a new experience so I think it is off to Disney Land for that trip she has never been, I am not sure if that was what she intended but she didn't clarify so I am going to take it upon myself to be the visionary of the family.

Besides my brothers best friend has a membership to "club 33" and has been telling me for years to come out and he will take us there for lunch.

I would just love that
