I don't wear a uniform to school, but actually I think I would enjoy wearing one. I hate each day having to pick out something and then having to compete with others in my school just about school. Clothes at my school also shows what type of person and what type of clique you would fit in at my school. The one thing I hate at my school is the cliques and if we all had to wear uniforms some of that indiviulaity would be eliminated.

We have a pants option.. but nobody takes it..
You're lucky that your uniform was mostly cotton. I think my polo is (and I wear long sleeve and short sleeve polos, because dress shirts look kind of blah on me) cotton, but nothing else except maybe my socks, which we have freedom to buy whatever brand we want in specific colors.

We also have a blazer option, which is actually pretty cute, but nobody wears it.

We only wore pants in the winter when you HAD to, there's no way you'd be able to go out in a skirt in that weather.
I always wore the polos, I don't think I owned any dress shirts.
We also had a choice between a vest and a sweater.
A blazer sounds so much better than sweaters!

Sweaters are V neck or Crew neck, but theres also a V neck vest. Also, they introduced a button-up cardigan..
Also, they introduced a sporty-type fleece pullover this year, not my style but a lot of girls at my school like that.
It could, however, be -8 F here, and we'd still be wearing the skirts xD

My old school had a uniform/dress code.
It was navy blue pant/shorts or plaid skirt.
Light blue, navy blue, white, or red polo.
Girls could wear a plaid jumper.

It makes wearing a uniform a little less boring for some people, it's nice to see the variety.

Personally I think they should sell uniformed sweatpants for under a skirt.

There was this video on youtube of Led Zeppelin playing a song live, I think it was Achilles Last Stand, and Jimmy's guitar was SO out of tune, I couldn't listen to the rest of the song.
It sounded terrible.
