QueenofHartz -- Sorry to be slow in responding. The AK excursion we took was not the one that is for AKL club level guests (which we did when we stayed at AKL). It is the one available for all club level guests at any WDW hotel. It was different from the AKL club level one, but was very nice and we enjoyed it immensely.

I believe the dates for this year are Nov. 30 - Dec. 2.

ETA: Deb's site is saying the rumored dates are Dec. 1-3. That surprises me (the use of a Monday), so I guess we'll just have to see what is correct whenever Disney officially announces! But it definitely looks like somewhere in that vicinity.[/QUOTE]

Thanks for the reply - I had read the Dec. 1-3rd dates as well, but they didn't make sense to me as those were the dates used to film last years ABC Parade. Nov. 30 - Dec. 2nd makes more sense, but we'll have to wait for the future official announcement from Disney. :hourglass :santa:

I'm happy to hear that the new rooms look great in person!! I can't wait to experience them for myself in a few months.:cool1:

Also, anyone who has stayed in RPC lately and were familiar with the past offerings....has anything changed recently?

Hi, Magical!:goodvibes

In July they were the same for us. In August when Heather was there for her anniversary they were the same. She even posted pics of the famous gray meat on a stick. :rotfl: I think the lounge ladies probably got a laugh out of her taking a close up shot of those.

They need to change it up! Bfast, too. I am very sick of the same stuff year after year. Although, the yummy tea time treats can stay. :upsidedow

happy planning,

Lives4Disney :)

Hi Lives!!

So happy to hear from you!

I hope they do change the offerings, just because we love to hang out in the lounge alot. I think I might let them know about this...although I think I did bring it up to them a few times.;)

Well, we are pretty excited for our upcoming trip and can't wait to return home(GF) again!!

Does anyone know the rehab schedule for the outer buildings- ie. new carpet, room rehab, furniture switches? I ask because I was on the phone last night working on some changes to my brother reservation and was told the GF was getting some work done on a regular basis from June-Dec and that carpet may be torn out or laid during our visit. I need to call and put a request in for my family's rooms because me DD8 and DD3 can't be around the construction (carpet laying) because of asthma and severe allergies. I don't care if we are in an older building or a newly completed one. What is already finished and does anyone know the order they are doing the rest?

Does anyone know the address where I can write to the Manager of the Grand Floridian? I would like to send a letter to acknowledge an employee who was especially nice to us.

Thanks,
Lyn

Lyn, I always just send it to Kent Mitchell at the GF's address. It gets to him and Guest Relations always calls me (well maybe it just gets passed on to them) and they thank me for writing and always promise that the CM will get the recognition deserved.....not sure that's true, but I do write.

Glad it was a nice time.:)

How timely! I wrote a letter mid-July and got a call this morning from guest services thanking me for the letter, and assuring me that the managers of the four people I mentioned, plus the employees were all aware I had written. :)

This is where I sent the letter, so you don't have to look up the address:
Mr. Kent Mitchell
General Manager
Grand Floridian Resort and Spa
4401 Grand Floridian Way
Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830-1000

Thanks again, Channing, for the advice on where to send it!

I have another question regarding RPC......has the decor of the lounge change much, meaning, rugs, wallpaper and furniture? I have seen some pictures lately and they seem to be the same as before the rehab. Some of the pieces of furniture (childrens section with TV) looked way out of place the last time I was there.

Also, there were never enough chairs at the tables and if there were, they were wet from people sitting on them with their wet bathing suits....I just hated that.

Question?

Just curious, to anyone who received an upgrade at GF, how many people were in your party. Does there seem to be a better chance of any upgrade if you need one king bed versus two queen?

Hey, Magical....I know they changed the rugs and some of the furniture. I believe they just reupholstered the sofas and kept the wing chairs as is. I heard the cute wicker chairs are gone. I loved those little tables by the windows with the wicker chairs. I am not sure, though, what replaced them. The lounge was down on the 3rd floor near the concierge desks for quite a while while they worked on it so it was a project. I did ask about the kids' area and it is the same. I don't care what it looks like really, but DD7 enjoys the small furniture and TV and that it's kind of a "gathering" place for the under 10 set & she meets friends.

Happy planning,

During the refurbishment, are all of the rooms getting new carpets and draperies? I'm curious because one of my daughters has asthma, and is very sensitive to smoke. We usually request non-smoking rooms, but since all rooms are now supposed to be smoke-free, I wanted to know if it was necessary to request a room that was not previously a smoking room. It seems that if everything is changed out, any room should be fine for us.

Any one know the details of the refurbishment?

Okay, search function is down. Sorry to ask a question that I'm sure has been answered and answered and answered!

Has Sugar Loaf been remodeled or is it currently under renovation? I have an opportunity to upgrade to SL in late October (26th -28th) and I'm really on the fence! Right now I have a GV booked with an AP rate.

Any answers ;) or recommendations for me? I'm traveling alone with my boys. DH will be on a trip with my dad.

Lives...don't tell me those little tables and chairs are gone:eek: . I loved them. I hope they replaced them with something similiar in the same spot!!!

......can't wait to return to see the new setup and decor. I might get the urge while I'm there to change things around a little in the lounge.:rolleyes1

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I know the draperies are new in the refurbished rooms and I'm pretty sure the carpet is too.

Here are some pictures of our room at the GF. I think you may have seen some up these updated rooms but just incase you haven't here they are:

Lyn, love the pictures. Not sure about that decor, though.

Tinks, I know SL was SUPPOSED to be closed in Sept for redo, but I haven't heard that it is being worked on at this point, so maybe they are behind schedule?? :confused3 The only lodge that is completely done is Conch. The main building is what they have been working on. SL is next in line.

I don't know what they'd do with SL guests if SL is down while you're there. Either upgrade you:thumbsup2 or use another lodge for concierge.

If I were travelling alone with my kids I prefer concierge - just so I don't feel so alone. Just my personal thing. I know Kelly had a great time in SL in July.

Magical....I know! I am not 100% sure what they did.... Maybe it's just the comfy wicker chairs that are gone  and those were replaced with hard chairs. I just like wicker. So comfy and casual & I thought they added some homey charm to the place. I need more info on that because I am not positive, but I believe something changed over there.

Happy planning,

Lives4Disney :)

Not sure what has been mentioned or not but when we were there (aug 17-26th) Big Pine Key was being worked on. We saw a few trucks hauling stuff away and many times we saw trucks bringing furniture to the building. At one point we walked along the water and could see all the empty rooms and men working inside them.

I'll have to look in my pictures but I didn't see any wicker chairs. There were small round tables and chairs by the windows. i sat there a few mornings when i woke early and everyone else was sleeping.
