Channing, your story about the characters and your children bring back warm memories. Our two younger (now adult) children have special needs. When our kids were small I was always touched by how great the characters were with all three. They really seemed to go out of their way to shower attention on our eldest. In fact, I'm getting teary eyed remembering it. Kudos to WDW training!

Citricos will still serve their typical fare at dinner during rehab from what I've read. At lunch and breakfast, the menu will be more typical GFCafe fare.

We aren't scheduled to be at WDW during the 1900 rehab. I think it would be fun to have breakfast or lunch in Citricos!:goodvibes

Ya, it made me teary while they were interacting with her because I was so grateful. DD7 isn't one to let herself go unnoticed, lol, so she was right in the mix. :goodvibes DS16 is very laid back and so not into characters at his age (so not cool;) ) but it was funny how the characters drew him into the fun and I really really appreciated it.:thumbsup2

I LOVE Disney - OK, as if you didn't know, haha - Disney is GREAT for special needs kids (and adults, too, I bet)

Channing :)

Channing - What happened to your Brithday trip?!?!?!
Anywhoo--5 more days and I'll be back at the Grand for some R&R....this wedding planning is killing me!!:headache:

Anyone have any reccomendations on what to order at the Cafe for lunch???

We have reservations for GF Cafe July 14. My understanding is that it will be a character meal as 1900 will be closed for rehab. Has anyone heard what kind of menu they will serve during this time at the cafe or if it will be a buffet?

My DSs 15 & 11 have done Cinderella castle for breakfast twice and been good sports for me (I love the castle). The characters were great and the boys took their pictures with all of them. When younger son was 7 he had crush on Cinderella. So, that was fun. I am not sure how the character meal will work this time as we had not planned on a character meal, we will be staying at the GF the night of our scheduled dinner and thought it would be nice to eat at the resort. Any info would be great! Thanks!

Jen, that Park Faire bfast is our favorite character bfast. The character "handlers" or managers are some of the very best. They make sure the characters get around to everybody and spend a good amount of time playing and goofing. My DD10 is visually impaired and I could tell they must have noticed her when we were being seated and they must have mentioned it to the characters. I was so happily surprised at how wonderful the characters were to her. They hung on her & hugged her, petted her, let her touch and pet them and really got right up in her face. DD7 and even DS16 get a kick out of this bfast, too. Alice flirted with DS16 and talked him into having his pic taken with her. It is a favorite photo of mine. ;)

Channing :)

Thank you! I know my DD (12) is looking forward to it, and I really think my DS (10) will like it too! At least the Mad Hatter!:rotfl: We'll see if he likes Alice! I really am glad to know that it is a wonderful experience though.

HockeymomR~ The GF Cafe is the Cinderella gala Feast from July 9-Oct. It will be a pre-plated character meal with Cinderella, PC and FG. Hopes this helps!

Oh, we love GFCafe for lunch! They have an excellent chopped salad. There is a sandwich that's been on the menu for years which my DD always orders It's had different names over the years but it is turkey and ham with boursin cheese sauce with onion straws sprinkled over it. It is very tasty. The French onion soup is excellent and there's usually a 1/2 sandwich and bowl of soup combo. My son has ordered the chicken noodle soup which looks great. There's a shrimp and pasta dish that my DIL loves. The burgers are excellent too. One burger used to come with avocado, jerk sauce and maybe bacon. DS1 loved that but it was off the menu last month. They improvised for him minus the jerk sauce which they just didn't have.

Years ago there was a Cuban sandwich that DS1 loved as well. Fit the Florida theme I though but it's been gone for years.:sad1:

I know I'm forgetting some favorites but we've enjoyed every lunch we've had there and it's been many since the GF first opened.

Have a great trip. Will you report back to us?:rotfl:

Hi All -

We have requested a king bed for our October trip this year. Does anyone know if those beds are in every building or only selected buildings?

Thanks! :3dglasses

This is a little bump for you. I tried a search and did find that apparently there are only 15 king beds in the whole resort. Of course, that could be outdated.:confused3

Anyway, there were a couple of reports of a king bed in Sago Cay and there are king beds in RPC. I didn't read all the threads so you might try a search on your own.

Hopefully, someone will be along with info. You could also try PMing CaliforniaDreaming who iniated this thread. He may know.

Happy planning!

Ok, now I am confused...what meal does the Mad Hatter appear at and where will that meal be GF Cafe or what in August of this year? Thanks.

The Mad Hatter is at the character breakfast which will be located at GFCafe in August.

Well, at least I think the characters will be the same. Has anyone heard for sure?

When I made my ADR, it was still Mary Poppins, Alice, Mad Hatter and assorted Pooh characters. I am most excited to see the Mad Hatter!!

Has anyone heard anything about renovations or what buildings have started? I wonder if I should request something or just wait and see what I get at check in. We have a MK view, so I figure there is no way it can be bad!!!!

I love teh GF cafe turkey club sandwhich its soo good
THey really do have a very nice lunch there
I also ate dinner there last Nov and it was vey good
the service was excellent

I don't think that this will be the lunch we will be getting if the characters are there...am I correct? I think, and someone correct me if I am wrong, that the GFCafe breakfast and lunch is moving to Citrico's and the 1900's breakfast, lunch & dinner character dining is moving to GF Cafe. Which lunch is better...my kids are not interested in the characters...too old they say....but I am much older than them and I still like the characters - they tell me though that I am "sooo not cool"...oh well

The Floridian Burger is gone? Oh, my DD will be so sad to hear this! We usually split that or the Grand sandwich you described, they are both excellent. Phooey! (I agree with you, btw, we've enjoyed everything we've tried there.)

To the best of my knowledge, the GF Cafe will not be open for lunch while they are hosting the character meals. It will only be open for the breakfast buffet (Alice & Friends) and the dinner buffet (Cinderella). Citrico's, which normally only serves dinner, will add menu service breakfast and lunch during the renovation. It sounds like the menu items will be similar to those typically served in the GF Cafe. Your only options at the GF for lunch at that time, will be Citrico's and Gasparillas Grill (and room service if you are a resort guest).

Yes, sad to report it was not on the menu this May. Our server agreed with our son that it was missed.

Maybe if enough people request it when dining, it will return?:confused3

If the Grand sandwich is ever taken off, I can picture my daughter organizing a protest.:rotfl: The first time she ordered it, she was a very petite maybe 10 or 11 yo...she ate the entire thing which I could not believe. I could never eat that whole sandwich. But it is unique and tasty.

Do any of you have a link to the room service menu? I am not sure we will be able to get ADRs for the tea this late in the game, and am wondering if some of those type of offerings can be ordered to our room.
Thanks!
