Well, today we fly home. We've been in Sugar Loaf since Friday. We've had a great stay. Everything is beautiful as as always.
Glad to hear you are having a good time. Is your comforter the one with all the fairies on it (Tinkerbelle, Blue Fairy and Flora/Fauna/Merriweather)? That's my favorite :goodvibes . Just wanted to ask about your view, as we were having that conversation right before you left. In relation to the back entrance, where was your room and how was the Wishes view? Hope you have safe travels home and report in when you get a chance.

GottaLoveDisney-
Glad you found this thread - I should have steered you here when I responded to your question on the main resorts board. I hope one of the GF-lovers who are in WDW this week will do some reconaissance work on the renovations and report back to us! Someone did report earlier on this thread that renovations to the rooms would begin any time now and they would be done building by building, floor by floor - perhaps beginning with Sago. Sounds like all the work will be done on the inside and will include updates to all the rooms. Can't wait! One other note regarding your decision: I know some people have commented that the GF is "shee-shee" but in my 8 stays, I have never felt that. My kids are older now and we go to WDW to enjoy the resort as much as the parks. At the GF, I feel like my DH and I are "pampered" - it does have a more upscale resort feel to it - but it's still Disney. So "shee-shee" it's not - classy and upscale - yes! And my kids DD16 and DS13) love it there so it's a win-win for my family.

I agree completely with this sentiment! DD is now 8, and since the GF was her first resort experience, and we've stayed there a few times now, it's her favorite resort! There are always lots of families with kids walking around, all obviously enjoying themselves. You'll see kids running around in the lobby just like at any resort, just no unsupervised craziness. Our DD has always run a bit, danced and twirled a lot, and no one bats an eye - it's WDW! We're all there to have a great time! I tend to feel uncomfortable in situations where I feel like I don't "fit in," but I have never been made to feel that way at the GF - it will always be our favorite!

Channing, I'm glad you're having a good time at WDW - I saw a WDW special on the Travel Channel last night and I am really wishing we were there right now!!

:sunny:

Help! We have a standard garden view room booked. Any suggestions as to what building to request that offers the best view??

Thanks to BCV23 and Lives4Disney for checking on my giant Mickey. I have my fingers crossed that they were just gone when Channing got there. It sounds like the one BCV23 saw is the one I am after.

Anyone have anymore scoop on the rehabs? We have requested Sago for our end of August trip and would love to be in one of those new rooms!!

Channing- so sorry that the Swan messed up you surprise  But I hope the rest of the trip goes smooth!

Thanks again!
Kristin

Hi everyone! We're currently booked for an 11 night stay at the Poly but my DD asked the other night about staying at the GF. It's her dream resort and since we've stayed at the Poly before it may be time to try something new. We've never stayed at the GF but her and her twin brother will be graduating next year and this will probably be the last big family trip for a while so I want it to be special plus we'll be celebrating mine and DH 21st anniversary as well! I've been doing my best to plow through the 300 pages of great information on this thread and I've noticed some talk of renovations. Any ideas of when it will start and what it will involve?

This is a great thread and I love all the photos and trip reports! You guys are making a solid case for switching resorts!!!!!

Thanks
Tracy

hi! glad to see you will be going to the GF! you will not regret it! there are lots of rumors when things are starting, there are a couple of disers there right now whow e are waiting to get info from, after they ask some CM's. it is supposed to start sometime this summer!

Does anyone know if they still sell those pillows in the shop downstairs?? I really hope to buy one this trip. :goodvibes

Congratulations!!

We were at the Floridian in March. The pillows were there. My wife will probably buy a couple when we return in three weeks.

Enjoy your "Disneymoon"!!

Hi, Cinderumbrella, I actually think the ones BCV did see were the ones I saw. They were about 24 inches and in limited supply. They weren't really WOW factor size, just good and cuddlable size and I believe $30. Today, Lucy and I saw the $50 size Mickeys, which are 3 ft tall at the big tent store in Toontown. I think that's maybe more what you were thinking.:confused3 Maybe Sarah of Memories by Sarah could purchase it for you and you could work something out that way?? Those are the largest (3 ft size) I have seen so far and not any in the GF store. Vonnie didn't think they carry larger anymore. Sarah is great and if it's out there she'll get it for you. I had a couple special requests that she came thru on.

I didn't talk to Vonnie about the rehab. Just fun stuff so far. We will see her again this week & and talk more at length about everything and I will ask her if she knows anything about the plans for RPC. We didn't really walk around the GF much yet, either. Got off the monorail, visited with Vonnie and then stopped in the shop to check things out for Cinderumbrella.

Glad you had a nice time, BCV
!:wizard: I am looking forward to THanksgiving at the GF. It just felt like "home" there yesterday. :) How was check in for you? I know they are doing it differently with curbside and then directly to your room. Many are not happy with this change. How'd it work for you and what do you think about the change?

The Swan has redeemed itself a bit. :goodvibes They did do turndown as requested and even followed thru to call me and double check that it was done. Housekeeping has been really good - except an issue yesterday where they didn't clean our room til 3:30 because they thought we were checking out....We showed up for a rest and they were working on it. As for grubby walls, I think the rooms are just kind of getting rundown. They look like they've had some hard use on the walls and carpet. Peach stucco really shows the grime and I bet it's not easy to clean and makes the place look a bit dingy. Why they chose that I cannot even guess haha. Our view is of the canal toward the BWI, but we are only on floor 2 (close to elevators and everything so good that way) but we look at treetops really. It's fine. We are mostly out. Just back for a bit of a rest. Lucy and I got up to make park opening at MK today and just missed it by 2 minutes due to bus situation. Oh well. Tomorrow we try again! Got a bit too crowded so we are going to Epcot tonight.

I will let you all know if I find any rehab info out or any other GF stuff - I am also going to check the GF for those pillows tomorrow. I would love one, too!

Happy planning, all!

Channing:)

I'd like to email GF IPO, I remember reading here that the email address had recently changed. Can anyone give me the updated email? Thanks!

So glad to hear everyone having a great time at the world! We will be there in less than 2 short months! Believe it or not, it is now my 10 year old DS who is so excited to stay at the GF!! He absolutely LOOOVED the pictures of the grandeur! (the apple did not fall far from the tree on that one! :rotfl: )
I also got CRT for lunch yesterday, which I thought was a long shot this close to our trip, but was absolutely thrilled to get!
Cannot wait to hear about the renovation schedule. I am holding off on room requests until I get a better idea!

Okay, I'm sold! LOL I can't wait to hear about the renovations..of course I'd be thrilled to be sleeping in a broom closet at the Grand Floridian :rotfl: Thanks so much to all of you who helped me make the decision to switch! I'm glad to hear we won't feel out of place, my children are very well behaved but we're not "country club" type people so I was a little concerned! Now I just need to learn everything I can about the GF!

Ok, I just changed our reservation and I have to tell someone! I was browsing the boards and found a great air fare on SW, so I booked it. We are now flying down instead of driving! Can you hear the cheers of my family over the Internet? Since we are flying, I added another day to our trip, so now we get to Orlando Airport at 9:55am and will take DME to the GF. We were checking in on Monday, July 16, now it is Sunday, July 15!!! I have to book another ADR now and decide what park we are starting at (ha!)

Has anyone used DME to GF? Any suggestions for my last ADR?

Thanks for listening!!

Kelly, I did take pictures of the SL lounge. However, I've never posted pictures before. When I have time to figure it out, I'll give it a shot!

Tammi, yes, thatt's the comforter we had. Which theme is that? We were above the marina entrance. If facing that section from outside, we had the last room to the right of the section that sticks out over the entrance. While our view of Fantasy in the Sky was excellent from that same room, with Wishes you can only see the Western perimeter fireworks. I suspect that much of Sago Cay sees only the Eastern perimeter. But the music is quite clear.

Castlelight, the shop still has both the teacups and Dream is a Wish pillows.

Huey, for gardenview I personally would request a marina view which means either Sago Cay or Conch Key. I love looking at the water.

Channing, I swear I saw two different sizes of Mickeys.:rotfl: There were many smaller ones on the lower shelves. But then near the top I saw some Minnies that were larger. Then I noticed these few larger Mickeys. $50 sounds like a fair price for them although I wouldn't have guessed them to be that 36." But they were up high. We'll await your investigation.;) Are you having lots of special time with your daughter?

Jen, my daughter and I took ME to the GF in January. We arrived around 6:30 and then had dinner at the GFCafe with the rest of our family which was a great way to start our trip. An extra day...congrats!

Oh, and no real rehab news. I was told it is supposed to start in June although some things were already happening in Sago Cay. I think I already mentioned seeing some room benches being taken out so maybe it is that type of stuff. It will be floor by floor for the most part but SL will be entirely shut down for a few weeks in September.

Thanks for the info. So a garden view and marina view room is the same thing?

Thanks for the hint, Kelly. I've never even downloaded pictures. It probably won't be for a few days. I need to do all the post trip things as well as help my daughter get settled back in. She returned from college right before our trip. In fact, I need to stop DISsing!
