Does anyone know if we will have a balcony? We booked a MK View Room and we really need a balcony since our 3 kids go to bed early. I just realized I never looked into this. I guess there isn't anything I can do now anyway.

Thanks

We're getting close! 2/28 - 3/4

Hi! 2 things: 1. Regarding BC concierge, I wouldn't recommend it, unless you like loud, crowded, EXTREMELY child-oriented hotels. The room that we were given was very small, and, since it had two queen beds, I can only assume that they would have no qualms about putting a family of 4 in this room. Without a daybed or even the 2 chairs & a table, we felt quite cramped! My review is at:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1330811&referrerid=&highlight=

2. Here is a copy of the letter I sent, regarding IPO.
Cheers!
Heather W

My husband and I were married at Disney's Wedding
Pavilion, had our wedding reception at the private
room at Victoria & Albert's restaurant, and spent our
honeymoon at the Grand Floridian. Every year, we
return to the Grand Floridian for our anniversary, and
we always stay Royal Palm Club. This year, however,
we encountered some problems with the Itinerary
Planning Office, and I wanted to pass our experiences
as guests along to you.

Every year, as part of our anniversary tradition, we
book the Chef's Table at Victoria & Albert's
restaurant for our anniversary date of August 5. On
February 1, I called the Itinerary Planning Office, to
solicit their help in securing this reservation for
us. After waiting on hold for over 10 minutes, I left
a voicemail message with my name, number, and request.
To follow up, I also sent an e-mail to the IPO on
February 2, again giving my name, number, and
reservation request.

Because this restaurant requires a credit card number
to book, I became concerned when, the day before we
could begin calling for our reservation, no one had
contacted me. I tried calling IPO several times
throughout the day, and each time, the call went
immediately to voicemail. Since neither my previous
call or e-mail had been replied to, I did not want to
leave yet another voicemail message. I continued
calling and finally, that afternoon, got through to
someone.

I told her that I had left a voicemail and sent an
e-mail with a request, and she asked me, "Did you
include your phone number in the e-mail?" I explained
that I had, but that no one had contacted me yet. I
then told her what we wanted to book, and asked
whether she would need anything else from us, like a
credit card, to secure this reservation. She said no,
IPO did not need anything else, and if they did, they
would respond to my e-mail. She was a bit curt, not
warm or friendly, and I did not feel reassured that my
request, so important to me, would be treated as
equally important by IPO.

In this, I was justified. On February 6, 180 days
out, my husband and I both began calling for the
Chef's Table reservation at 7:00 am that morning.
Upon hearing that it was already booked, we hoped that
IPO had gotten the reservation for us. However, when
I wrote to IPO to inquire whether they had booked the
Chef's Table for us, I got a reply that no, they had
not made the reservation, and that if we wanted a
reservation at Victoria & Albert's, we would need to
give them a credit card number.

This was very frustrating to me, because it left me
with the strong impression that IPO had not even
attempted to book this reservation for us, despite
several tries on my part to solicit their help, since
they only then realized that they would need a credit
card to do a Victoria & Albert's booking.

My question is this: why offer a service (and charge
more for concierge level rooms) if you are not willing
to actually provide the service? If, as a guest of
the Grand Floridian, I am repeatedly sent to
voicemail, my e-mails are not returned, and my calls
are returned too late to be of any use to me (I had a
message TODAY, February 9, from IPO), then what is the
service that you are providing to concierge level
guests? It is far more convenient for me to call
WDW-Dine, where my calls are answered in a timely
fashion. The purpose of IPO, from what I've
experienced in the past, is to take down requests for
high-demand dining experiences and to then assist
guests in booking these experiences.

If the IPO staff had answered the phone, returned
calls, or made reservations calls on my behalf, I
would have no cause for complaint, even if they were
unable to secure my reservation. But the fact of the
matter is that they did not respond to time-sensitive
requests, even though I gave them five full days from
the time of my first message to the day the
reservation should have been made.

I strongly believe that the Grand Floridian should not
offer guests a service which only ends in frustration
and bitter feelings, when we realize that our vacation
is not as important to the Itinerary Planning Office
as it is to us. I do not expect miracles or
outstanding feats from the IPO, but, as a guest
choosing to spend my vacation at the Grand Floridian,
I would expect to be treated in an efficient,
courteous fashion. I think that IPO should return
calls in a timely fashion or, better yet, answer the
phone instead of sending it directly to voicemail. I
think that IPO should understand that we choose to
return to the Grand Floridian each year for our
anniversary because of the magical experience that
we're provided as guests. This sloppy treatment
leaves me with a very dim view of the magic being
provided by the Grand Floridian concierge.

Thank you for listening to my heartfelt concerns.

Regards,
Heather W

We're getting close! 2/28 - 3/4

All rooms have either a balcony or an enclosed porch if you are on the first floor. Those are really identical to the balconies.

Heather, what a shame you missed the Chef's Table for your anniversary especially after all your efforts. I sure hope there is a cancellation for you.:wizard:

Heather - what a great letter, and I think your comments are spot-on to the treatment you received, and your expecations of IPO as a RPC Guest. I certainly hope Disney management takes into account yours and others complaints, and rights the ship - or they may very well find a lot of those high-priced RPC rooms sitting empty!

great letter heather
i agree we had awful service from the GF IPO
its to bad because it is so nice there

Channing - I'm right there with you hoping for a nice AP discount. The ones at YC were great last year. I think my in-laws paid $189 for a gv and we paid $269 for a wv! We had a great view of the lake and Boardwalk. Of course the way things have going I'm not holding my breath. I got a AAA rate just in case.

Heather,

I am so sorr about the problems you had with the GF, especially with all your repeat business! it must be hit or miss b/c I had nothing but good things to say about Beth, the girl who helped me with all my reservations through dozens of e mails. hope you ave better luck next time!

Heather, great letter!:thumbsup2

I really hope improvements are made in GF's IPO. They sure need something.:sad2:

Hi, welcome to the GF thread. :) We have stayed at the GF MANY many times, but I am also planning our first GF GV stay for Nov. Disneymomx7 likes Sago Cay or Conch for marina views. I requested Sago because it is right near the marina and the main building and Gasparillas Grill (24 hr "fast food" type place) From the outside of Gaspies, you have perfect views of the fireworks over the castle. Sago is just very convenient.

I also know many people request Boca Chica. It is about a 5 minute walk to the main building, but has beautiful courtyard pool and garden views. Big Pine Cay is another highly requested....it is near the waterfall/slide pool, but I believe it is a smoking optional building. Also, I think the worst possible view you could get for a GV room is in Big Pine. That view would be of the pool house roof. With my luck I would get that view, so I am staying clear of that building.

Other than that bad view I mentioned, I don't think you can go wrong with a GV room. There are no parking lot views. I have only stayed in Sugar Loaf or the main building, but always thought if we don't do concierge we would just book a GV room because the views are so pretty.

Sago is convenient, but I think I would almost prefer the VIEW from Boca Chica. I honestly don't care which building we end up in because they really all have their positives.

Happy planning. The GF is the best! :wizard:

Hello...do you mind if I ask what a "GV" room is at the GF? Thanks!

gv is a garden view room. GF has garden view, lagoon view and MK view on regular rooms. Then there is RPC (Main building concierge) and SL (Sugar Loaf concierge).

Hey GF fans.....I requested Sago for convenience, but honestly don't care which GV lodge we end up in....Just a question about Sago, though.....WHAT is the view in Sago if we're not looking toward the marina? :confused3 What do you see?? Are both sides of Sago considered garden views?

BCV, I read on another thread that you mentioned there were a few rooms in Sago that you wouldn't care for. What are they and how come??

I feel like a GF noob with this GV thing. I LOVE the pics of the Alice rooms Tinkaroo posted on another thread. I was kind of bummed to read Sago has that same "Cameo" decor that the main building has - I like it, but a change would be good.:goodvibes

THANKS!!

Hi, What kind of treats have you had delivered to your room while staying at the GF? I thought I saw something about dessert type sweete but I can not find a post. Does any know what they offer and who to contact? thanks

channing,

we have stayed in a 2 bedroom "lagoon view" suite on the backside of sago cay and we looked at....the monorail and about a 4 foot area of swampy water at the edge of the lagoon. we obviously complained, but it was june, so they were full and couldn't move us. we were bummed but were never in the room so we got over it. a GV room would have probably been a better view, and cheaper!

We really enjoyed our GV room in Conch Key (where those pics you saw came from), Channing. If you saw the link I posted to the resort rooms thread, our GV room did have some water in it. :goodvibes And we found Conch Key very convenient - out the back door and past SL to get to Gaspies; out the main door, and Narcoossee's and the boat launch are right there; and then just down the path, you have the courtyard pool, and a few more steps to the Main Building. I think the only thing that could have been deemed "far" (in relative terms) was the beach pool, and we didn't have the opportunity to venture down that way, as it rained a lot on that trip in the afternoons when my mom and I took breaks. We would usually just refill our mugs at Gaspie's, and then take a nap on those awesome beds! :thumbsup2

I had no idea that side of Sago Cay was considered lagoon view! Wow. I wonder if it is the whole side?

Channning, we're neophytes at the GF. We've only stayed six times and none have been gardenview. When you need an accessible room, you don't usually get a choice of view...just lucky to get a room at all. I've just noticed that the rooms on the marina side closest to Gasparilla's have a side view of the loading dock area. Just the last room on each floor and we've never been in those rooms...just something I've noticed. It could be that when you're actually in those rooms, it is fine.:lmao:

We have also seen the view from the back side of Sago Cay and I don't care for that either but again it could be different to actually stay in those rooms. It would certainly be peaceful. The room we saw faced a lawn area but not landscaped like the Polynesian. The lawn area ended by the swamp area that Heather faced. Kids might enjoy the view of the monorail zipping by.

But when people say the views at the GF are all great I always:rolleyes: because I think the rooms at the Polynesian that face the parking lot are so much better than the grass/swamp view in Sago Cay because there is always so much beautiful landscaping between the rooms and the parking lot at the Polynesian.

Channing: When I tried to book the reservation for my dad and I, I got basically the same response you are describing here, with two different CMs. Maybe because I had just been to Disney and forked over rack rate minus a AAA discount? :scared:

When my dad, who as I said has not been in five years, called he got the discount on the first try! :scratchin

I think that when they believe they will be getting your money anyway, they don't see any reason to entice you. :sad2:

Just thought I would jump in here. I called yesterday for reservations at GF for next week. Just a short trip for my wife and I. Told they had no Annual Pass rates. Called back later in the day, they made mention that I had called earlier, and low and behold they had an AP rate this time.:confused3

Thanks for all the insight and info on the GV rooms!:thumbsup2

BCV, I am sorry - I forgot that you need an accessible room and from what I have read, those are too far and few between. I was kind of afraid of what you and Heatherlynn said about that other side of Sago. That was pretty much what I pictured would be on that side.

Maybe I might upgrade to a LV with a corner room request. Those corner rooms look wonderful. Just don't know if it's worth the extra $$$ for the HOPE of a corner (hammerhead) room. I don't care if LV or GV but the extra space would be super.

JPN - That is great that you got the AP rate. I know from experience it does pay to keep trying. Have a nice stay. :)

As for treats in the room.....You can call private dining and they can give you ideas from their menu. We have preordered tuxedo and bride strawberries on a platter with a White Chocolate Mickey, chocolate truffles in the chocolate Grand Floridian box, have received a gorgeous tray of strawberries around a dish of warm fudge for dipping, and if I ask my kids they will remember more! :wizard:

Happy planning,

Lives4Disney :)
