We will be at the Grand Floridian next month - Can we take items out of the "mini" bar refrigerator to store our personal items? Also, does the mini bar have a small freezer compartment?

Or - do we just need to request a refrigerator in our room/which I am assuming would be different than the mini bar, right? Would this refrigerator have a freezing unit?

We specifically want to store a gallon of milk and bottled water with some other "snack" items

Hi, I would request an empty fridge. I would not remove a thing from the minibar unless I was prepared to drink it and pay for it. Just call housekeeping and get the spare. It's easy, more convenient, and free. Last time we had a fridge there was a SMALL freezer, but it never got freezing cold, lol.

Although this is a new room category for 2007, and I don't know if anyone has stayed yet and reported as to exactly how their view was. Poly has had this room category for a year, and they give unobstructed views there.

Hi, fellow GF fans!

I booked a GF GV room for a 9 nt. Thanksgiving stay. I think I heard that there are some corner GV rooms that are larger/have two balconies?? Am I dreaming this? If these corner rooms exist, I should probably request this type of room. Anybody have any particularly great GV room ideas for me??!! I requested Sago, just for that location near Gaspies, but maybe the room won't have such a great view. I never minded the marina view from the main building because the whole point was to look over & beyond it at the castle, lol!

I am excited, but it's my first nonconcierge GF stay due to the outrageous rates. I am already looking forward to the gingerbread cookies!

I'm curious about this too because, as far as I could see when we were there, the GF "MK view" rooms were simply just a view of lots of trees and the very tip of the castle?

When we asked a CM at the GF's front desk about the rooms with the two balconies, she called them "hammerhead" rooms. (I don't know why.) They are a bit larger than standard rooms. The "hammerhead" rooms in Big Pine Key are lagoon view rooms, not garden view. I'm not sure if any of these rooms would be garden because I think that at least one of the balconies in the room would look over the lagoon, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

As for GV rooms, we've had them in every building except Sago Cay. We've always thought that the GV rooms there that overlook Gasparilla's would be noisy and lack some privacy. Our favourite GV rooms are in Big Pine Key -- we always request (and have gotten) the GV rooms that are nearest to the main building. They have the numbers that end in -02, -04, -06, -08, and -10 -- so, 9202, 9204, etc. These rooms have a great view of the main pool. You have to make sure that you don't get the GV rooms at the other end of Big Pine Key because some of them look on to the back of the pool bar. We've also been in Boca Chica and had a great view across the lawn to the main pool. It wasn't our favourite GV room because it was a bit of a hike to the main building - but the view was fine, and it is central to the dock and the marina, just not too close to the main building.

DisneyDoogie - THANKS for all that great information! I need a "Hammerhead" room! I will add it to my request, anyway - doesn't hurt to ask. CRO won't have a clue what I am requesting, anyway! I honestly always kind of thought to stear clear of that Big Pine building just because I KNOW I would be the lucky one with that roof top view. That's me.....one stay in a gv and I would get that roof out my sliders. You may be right about Sago and the noise and privacy. I always like sitting on my main building balcony above Gaspies, though, and people watching so it probably wouldn't bug me. It is funny because when we were in the Walt suite and I was out on that huge balcony I thought "Look up! Look at me here. I am in a dream." and nobody looks up at the balconies!!

Tinkaroo - We are actually arriving Nov 16 and staying til the Sunday after Thanksgiving. My kids (except my highschooler) had the Thanksgiving week off, so we will ditch a few days early to STRETCH the stay out. Sounds like we will miss you by a couple days. What room did you book??


Glorydaz - You will love the GF and I am sure if this is your first stay, it will not be your last! You will be a GF convert like me. I have done them all, but keep coming back to the GF 'cause it's the best.

PS. If I booked a MK View room (which they are charging for now) I would expect to see the MK clearly - and if it's a clear, unobstructed view, it is beautiful. What I would do is have the valet wait to unload the luggage until I made real sure the view was a clear MK view. Usually - at CR & Poly - the bell services gntlman has come into the room and opened the curtains and kind of "shown off" the great view. If they don't do something like that, quick, before you get all moved in - go check it out and see if it's a nice view. If not, I'd let the bellman know how you feel & he or you can call the front desk and ask to be moved to another room. A couple times I have switched rooms like this for various reasons and they have always been very accomodating. If you're not happy with something, just ask & usually they will correct it.

We booked the Honeymoon RPC with a AAA discount - hoping for one of those turret rooms! We're going all out this trip - I only turn 30 once!

Now I don't feel like such a dork. I felt the same way when we got upgraded to the Roy Disney suite. I was out people watching thinking the exact same "look at me in my dream." Same result...no one looked up.

At least I know it wasn't just me...

BTW, we stayed in a garden view room in Boca Chica and it had a very nice pool view and was fairly quiet. Thanks for the tip about changing rooms if the MK view isn't great. That's what my dad and I have booked for our October trip, and I was a little worried about him spending the extra money if it wasn't going to be worth it!

We are heading back to the GF this August for the first time since our honeymoon 10 years ago. We are missing our actual 10th anniversary by a couple of days, but I put it on my ressie anyway.

We stayed in a dormer in the Sugar Loaf back then. What are your thoughts about the dormer rooms? Are they actually smaller in square footage because they feel large due to the ceiling...

Lives4Disney- we also like the idea of Sago Cay for the Gaspy proximity.

Hi, Kristin! Good to see that you wandered over here - yes, this group is very informed! I have learned so much! You might also run into some other familiar "faces"...

I do know that the dormer rooms are smaller square footage-wise (according to Deb's site, they're 3 feet smaller), and the one I stayed in (had 2 queens) did not have the daybed - I'm not sure if that is standard across all of them. That said, we loved the dormer room! It was only my mom and I, and I had requested it for our trip because it looked cozier. The room was still plenty big!

Thanks! Ya, I am really excited. I think I should have booked a lagoon view!! I just really like the GV as much and it was lots less expensive, so I snagged it. I know Misti had a great corner room a while back. I need to find out which she had. Maybe there are no GV corner rooms. I am kind of burned out on the trip planning. Maybe by June when I can make our ADRs I will think of some fun extras. Any ideas??!!

Cinderumbrella - Like Tinkaroo, I LOVE the dormer rooms. I do know they're a bit smaller, but I really like having that high sloped ceiling. It is so cozy and unhotelish. We had the lodge tower room in SL on the 4th floor and it had that cathedral ceiling - but that 4th floor SL lodge tower room has no balcony (just a word of warning to anyone if a balcony is important to you)

I thought I read a page or 2 back about fridges having to be requested... is that true? I remember the minibar but it seems silly that a fridge isn't automatic in a deluxe hotel.

Also, does anyone know anything more about the 1900 PF renovation? I am completely bummed that the GF Cafe is taking over those meals since I love breakfast at the GF Cafe but we won't go if its a character meal Are one of the other restaurants taking over GF Cafe meals?

Kristin, I don't know about 1900 PF, but I know about the fridges. You will have to request it if you want it. The rooms don't automatically have them - just have the minibar.

I really want to know about those corner rooms!!! Misti, where are you??!!
