The *New* Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa Frequently Asked Questions (FEB2004) Part 2

Hi,

I am getting nervous about our stay in a couple weeks - I hope my wife and I get the service we have experienced in the past.

Also - when I booked this trip, I could not get GF on the Disney website. So I actually did it through Expedia. Sort of nervous about this - but I am going to check the reservation about a week out. My understanding is that this is when the ressie will show up at the front desk.

I read in a previous post that you could request a room without an adjoining door ... I do not recall this in our past rooms. Maybe I should - any thoughts? :goodvibes

Thanks.

Hi disyady,

That's good to know that they only charged for the days the service was used as we don't plan on using the car other than to get us to and from the airport with a stop at Publix on the way to GF.

I agree that on the day of arrival parking and walking from the self park lot would be fine because we'll be in  :wizard: :cool1: :woohoo: mode, but on the day we leave that will be one loooong walk to the self parking lot. :sad1: :sad1:

Thanks for sharing your experience, now I'm on the fence regarding valet vs. self park - If I know "me" on the day of arrival I'll decide to "treat" us to the valet parking. :goodvibes

The worst part of self-parking is trudging out to get your car on the day you leave. We valet parked the last two visits and they only charged us when we actually used the service. In our case that meant the day we put the car in upon arrival and took it out on departure. That meant $7/day X 2 = $14 + tip on our trip this year.

Greetings fellow DISer's,

Does anyone know if they are serving roasted chestnuts this year at the GF and if so the location? popcorn::

I had read about it past years and DW is really hoping that they have them on our upcoming 11/28 - 12/3 early Christmas trip. :cloud9:

we valet and were only charge when we took the car out if its just sits there the whole time its a 7 dollar charge
which was very cool

tenbelow - treat yourself to the valet parking. It is part of the GF experience and not a huge expense overall (even if you pay for each day, it's still a convenience you'll be glad that you have). We've learned through the years where to save and where to spend. Not self-parking at the GF is worth the spend. Have a magical time!

With regards to the valet park fee. I understand if you park the car for days, you won't be charged until the day you ask for it. But, what if you come and go a few times each day? Do you have to pay the $7 fee each time they valet the car or only once per day?

It is a daily rate. You just have to tip each time you have them park your car or retrieve it.

I don't know what to do. Please give me some advice Disney veterans :)

We just got back a couple of weeks ago and my kids cannot stop talking about Mickey Mouse and begging to go back. We had thought we would only take 1 trip a year there - atleast for now. But they are so excited that my husband said book another. The thing is, the only window I have is mid January. Otherwise we will have to wait until October (for our annual trip). We would only be able to go for 3 nights in January.

Do you think going back so soon is crazy? Also, I don't think we could splurge on RPC if we go in January. We still would like a monarail resort...looks like Poly would be our best bet rate wise. I think Contemporary is booked. Any other suggestions for other resorts - perhaps moderate?

Thanks all :sunny:

Last year when we checked out, a bell services CM came to the room and drove us and our baggage out to the self-parking lot in a golf cart, just like when we checked in.

Traci - :thumbsup2 How great! When my kids were young, CR was their total favorite. I would keep trying for CR. Poly is nice, too, but January will be too cold to enjoy the pool and that tropical atmosphere is wasted a bit. We used to always go in January/Feb before my kids became too old to pull out of school. :guilty: It is hard to believe mid Jan is booked!! I used to book our trips a couple weeks before we'd check in! Now it is all about planning and more planning and those 180 day ADRs..... I vote keep trying for CR or just do a GV at the GF or GV at Poly. CR is good in winter months, though because it has the worst pool area IMO and you won't miss that feature in Jan.

Happy planning!! Keep trying for the room you want - something is bound to open up.

No post on this thread for 3 days!!!!

Can't wait until Saturday!!!! First stay at GF and it will be at RPC :cool1:

Actually we will be driving down Saturday and staying at POR that night. We have ADRs at 1900 Park Fare that night. Then checking in to RPC early Sunday morning and off to the Magic Kingdom.

Hope to see some fellow DISERS this year, last year I was a Dis Rookie. This year I have LGMHs ready and will be on the lookout for more. Last year we stayed at the CR Atrium Club and had a wonderful trip. I subscribed to this thread when we came back because we knew we wanted to try the Grand Floridian this year. Boy, am I ready to go!!!!!!!!!!!!

We will be staying at the GF for the first time this year as well, perhaps we'll run into you in our travels.

What does LGMH stand for? :confused3 Is this the "secret" way fellow Disers let each other know they are members of the DIS? :wizard:

Starting the 7 day countdown....

Greetings,

Just saw the teaser for the food network's showing of Holidays around the World or something to that effect this Saturday - November 25th at 10 PM EST.

I'm not sure if this is the same show as last year or an updated version, but it should be interesting to all DIS and GF fans as I'm pretty sure it includes the Ginger Bread House in the Main Lobby at the GF.

Happy Thanksgiving,
Mike

Thanks, I will be sure to tape it so I don't miss it. I love to watch anything Disney.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanks - I've been able to check and we do get this program on Food Network Canada. I'm sure my twin DS8's will want to see this - we were at the GF throughout the assembly of the gingerbread house and left just before it was really finished. They'll want to see how it turned out! (And if this isn't filmed this year, I don't suppose they'll know the difference!)

Hope to see you there. We will be there from 11/25 - 12/2. LGMH is a paint chip from Home Depot, it is Lime Green and in the shape of a Micky Mouse Head. From reading these boards it looks like a lot of people who post here display them to show that they frequent these boards. I think it would be nice to actually see some fellow Disers.

Thanks for filling me in, I'll see what I can do about getting to HD to pick up an LGMH prior to our 11/28 trip. I know from reading this board for the past month or so that there should be at least 4 or 5 of us DISers at the GF between 11/28 and 12/1. I'm sure we'll run into fellow DISers at some point in our travels. :moped:
