Just came back from a very nice but brief stay at the CR...thought you CR fans might be interested in some pool news...

While we were there I asked about the pool rehabs and was told that the main pool will get some new tiles and that they will be adding more childrens fountains and sprinkler type things near the slide area...

Also the bay lake pool will be getting cabans like the GF has at the theme pool with attendants and all...how nice...

The new grab and go area was finished but they are still working on the other side...hopefully putting the Outer Rim lounge back in..??Not sure...

Everything was decorated nicely...:santa: Very Christmassy...trees through out the lobby...and the view of the castle with those holiday lights..INCREDIBLE...

This may have been recently discussed, but is there any updated information on pool rehabs. We are going the end of January and I'm a bit concerned about rehabs:scared: :scared:

Thanks everyone for clearing up my confusion about the MK view! :thumbsup2 It does say MK view on my reservation. :headache: Opps.

Hi

We leave next week for our trip to WDW and the Contemporary (SO excited) and I was looking at the menu for the Contempo Cafe at breakfast. I don't see just regular Mickey waffles, waffle with salted caramel only. The room service menu shows Mickey waffles with bacon or sausage but we would want to eat in the a.m.'s at the Contempo Cafe. My youngest son looks forward to the Mickey waffles. We are assuming they can be ordered but I am curious if anyone can confirm. If I ordered from room service is there a service charge?

I'm so looking forward to this trip! Hope everyone has a wonderful time on their current or upcoming vacations at Disney.

Take Care

You're welcome and at least you don't need to worry about that anymore.

Yes there is a service charge and it's 18% which is listed on the room service menu.

at CR!! Can not wait. We originally were supposed to be there this week but changed dates back in September and so glad we did as my DH has been home sick in bed for the past 5 days! Anyway....just can not wait to stay at CR since it has been over 30 yrs since I have stayed there as a kid!

Maybe I will see around there?

Thank you for posting that and just one more question. I read that their salads are now made to order, so does that mean they no longer sell other types of pre-made salads in the fridges like they did at the Food & Fun Center and the Tempo Grab & Go. Unless they still have pre-made salads but they are smaller like the ones at the fridges in Captin Cook's.

Yes, the salads are the smaller ones, side salads I believe. There three different types that you can order to be made at Contempo.

I received a letter from Disney last week letting me know that the pool would be closed at CR during my Jan. trip. The dates for closure are 1/5/09-mid March 09. It says that the Bay Lake pool will remain open and we have the option of using the pool at the Poly. Hope that helps.

There is only one pool and and no Bay Lake pool, unless they mean the one being built for the Bay Lake Tower. However I doubt that because it's not scheduled to open until September 2009.

We recently booked a 2 night stay in January at the CR...garden wing/garden view. I'm debating about this...what kind of view is that? And looking at the maps, that looks like a loonnnggg ways aways from the restaurants & monorail. What does an upgrade to the tower rooms typically cost (not wanting concierge or suites...just the regular rooms!) TIA

The view would depend on the type of Garden room view you have listed on your reservation. For example it could be a view of Bay Lake or it might be of the convention center and or parking lot. Besides that an upgrade to a room in the Tower would be around $75-$100 and etc, although don't forget the Bay Lake View in the Tower is less expensive then the Magic Kingdom View.

Well, the letter says Bay Lake Pool. They describe it as the resort's quiet pool:confused3

According to allears.net they do:

Is there a pool at the Contemporary Resort?

There are actually two pools at the Contemporary. The large pool is a freeform pool complete with a 17-foot high curving slide. There is also a round, quiet pool which is shallow around the edges and deeper in the center.

Well after my family and I arrive there this weekend I will take a look and see where it is.

Yes, the CR has two pools, the main pool (this is the one with the fountains and slide) and the Bay Pool which is out next to the marina and is circular with blue tiles on the bottom. I swam in the Bay Pool today (becasue the water was much warmer than the main pool).

Take a look at the CR map here: the bay pool is #11 http://www.wdwinfo.com/resortmaps/contempmap.htm

I always thought that was the old kids pool which they took away.

I think the kids pool was near the north wing. At some point in time, it was closed and replaced with a sand box. The bay pool is very nice, at its deepest, its only 5 feet. As another poster said, its deep in the middle and shallow on the outside. Most people don't know its there so its usually not very crowded. The water in the main pool was much too cold for my taste today but the water in the bay pool was nice and warm - and I had it all to myself.
