Buzz, I just went through a large majority of the pages in this thread and didnt see this question asked. Im going to MVMCP and would like to have a few cocktails before I go since MK doesnt serve alcohol. From my understading there is a bar here as well as a poolside bar. Is this correct?
Also, do they have specialty drinks?

No, CSR does not have any zero entry pools. The side of the main pool next to the temple has 4 stairs that run the whole length and start to go around the corner towards the slide. There are also stairs similar to this on the side near the spitting tiki post. Many of the young ones hang out and these spots. See pic below for the stairs.

Thanks, Buzz. And yes, I can see my DD spending most of her time around these stairs (but that's okay....as long as she's happy :) )

Yes, Francisco's is the bar by the Pepper Market and Siestas is the bar my the pool. Margaritas are good at the pool bar and other frozen drinks.

Francisco's, is the 200-seat lounge offering specialty drinks and Southwestern-favorite snacks such as sopas (tortillas with shredded pork, pico de gallo sauce, black beans and cheese) or enjoy a seviche bar, similar to the one at Maya Grill. The emphasis is on tequilas and Latin drinks. The lounge offers tequila flights, an assortment of tequilas brought to your table throughout the night with your food. Francisco's is open from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. daily.

Ummmm...alligators? Seriously??
Back in April, this was the one we saw. WDW lets them hang around until they are 4ft and then move them.

He was caught that week. Got some good shots of him. He looked like he was waiting to be feed.

The only smoking optional building is cabana 9a so yes, casita 3 is non smoking.

standard view is fine but you may want to request a section that you like.

Here are some good choices...

Cabana 9b is close to bus stop 1 and the main building with a short walk to the Dig Site (main pool) over the wooden bridge. Most convenient location and most preferred.

Cabana 8a is close to the Dig Site (and playground) and bus stop 4 with a short walk to the main building. (Closest to the Pool)

Cabana 8b and 9a are in between the 2 above. 9a has a quiet pool and is also a smoking optional building.

Ranchos 7b has a quiet pool, is close to the Dig Site and bus stop 4 with a bit longer walk to the main building. 7b is behind cabana 8a.

Casita 3 has great courtyard and fountain views but you will have to walk or ride the internal shuttle to get to the pool.

Casita 5 has some nice fountain and lake views and is close to the Dig Site but farther from the main building.

...and we really enjoyed our stay at CSR. We didn't make any room requests before going (we paid for standard view) and our flight didn't arrive until after midnight so we were expecting to get the worst rooms but we got a nice lake view room in the Casitas 5 building and it was perfect for our purposes. Distance-wise, it was about halfway between the Dig Site and El Centro.....and best of all for us, it was near Bus Stop 2, which was the first stop for most of the busses (except the Downtown Disney ones) Our first day there was Thanksgiving Day and for the first two days, the busses we got on in the morning were packed before it got to the last stop so it was great being at the first stop and always getting seats, especially since we were traveling with young children and strollers. And we were the first ones dropped off at night, which was great for sleepy children and tired parents.

For those of you on the dining plan, you can use your snack credits to get big bottles of milk and water in the gift shop Panchitos. Don't get them at the convenience store La Tienda because you'll just get the single serving sizes (only the gift shop has the large sizes)

There are only two things that I sort-of have a complaint with:

The first is with the Pepper Market. The meals I got weren't that tasty (maybe I just made bad choices) and the servers and cashiers weren't very consistent in what constituted a dining plan counter service meal. For example, my friend got her DD5 a chicken tenders kids meal one day and it consisted of a 3 chicken tenders, one small cookie and a small drink. On another day, I got the same kids meal for my DD4 and the meal had 5 chicken tenders, 2 small cookies and a small drink. Then when I got to the register, the cashier told me that I could get another drink and dessert for my DD because the cookies and small drink were considered part of the kids meal. So for the same kids meal credit, we got more chicken, 1 extra cookie, 1 small drink, 1 adult-size drink and an adult-size dessert. I'm not complaining about the extra food but it seems as though they should be more consistent.

The second complaint is that our room was cleaned too late in the day. There were two days that we were in our room in the afternoon to allow the girls to take a nap. The first day, housekeeping showed up while we were eating a very late lunch (around 2-3pm) Another day, my friend was trying to get her DD down for her nap around 3:30pm and housekeeping showed up close to 4pm. I ended up taking my DD out to the hammock and eventually in her stroller to get her to nap so that we wouldn't be interrupted by housekeeping but it was inconvenient having to avoid our room so that housekeeping could do their work.

Other than these inconveniences, I really enjoyed staying at CSR. It was nice, quiet relaxing atmosphere. Maybe it wasn't as "Disney-fied" as some of the other resort but that was fine for us.

A friend of mine also got a smoking room in cabana 9a and boy did it smell. It was like they stayed in the room all week and smoked. She went to the front desk and they moved her to a cabana 9b room right next to us. They were very accomodating.

Thanks for all the great info and pics on this thread. We have decided to stay at CSR in May. We will be driving down and will spend the first day at the resort.

I was wondering if our room wasn't ready in the morning. Would there be a bathroom or place to change into swimsuits around the large pool area?

Thanks

Ive seen alot of questions about smoking rooms but I'm not sure if anyone has adressed this one yet. I know there are a limited amout of King Bed rooms how many out of that number are non-smoking rooms. I just switched from POR to CSR and I know we got into a King sized room but Im trying to figure out if we have a good chance of getting a non-smoking king bed room. Sorry if it has been asked before! :confused3

I've gotten so much great info off of this thread so far! I am very close to changing our ressies for our upcoming trip to CSR. None of us have ever stayed there but it looks gorgeous. Does anyone have any pictures of the king room or water view rooms that they are willing to share (or do you have a link to a post with pictures?). I have searched and because of the speed of my computer (obviously not impressive), I can't find any!

Thanks!
