It's odd - I kind of shunned religion when I was younger, but in hindsight I think that's because I didn't get on so well with the traditional worship format which was used for assemblies and services at both schools I went to.

Now, it's really important to me. Which reminds me, I need to e-mail my Vienna report before the weekend, so it can be read out in the Business Meeting that I'm not going to on Saturday

I'm not religious at all but I think its something I'm very uneducated about......It's therefore something I interested to hear others views and thoughts on because I believe you cant really dismiss and label something as uninteresting it you dont fully understand much about it....Like many things in life...

I'm pretty much exactly the same as you on that one...although I'm quite pessimistic about most of the big religions (especially the war causing ones!)

Please don't take offense here Torsie, I don't mean anything by this, I just don't want to get in trouble...

I'd be very careful how you word that - we don't want to get told off for attracting arguments which is very easily done when talking about religion, whether you mean to or not, because it's an extremely touchy subject.

I can't think of any religions that could be blanket labelled as "war causing". Almost all religions that I know seem to have a certain percentage of followers who take their beliefs to the extreme and resort to wars, but I don't know of any religion which actively seeks out war as part of it's beliefs. These go back for millennia, right back into Bible times if you choose to believe in the bible and certainly back hundreds of years to the crusades if you don't.

Some religions embrace the idea that war is an unfortunate consequence that must take place, while others (including but not limited to my own) believe that war is unnecessary and that there are always viable alternatives.
