The New Caribbean Beach FAQ Part VII

The new rooms look lovely and airy. I really like them. Especially the light fixtures! I do hope they add a runner to those beds for a pop of colour because they do make it look a little plain. I imagine they will since they've added them to all of the other rooms that they've changed the bedding in. A small thing, but I think it will really stand out and finish off the look.:) I too am hoping for a refurbished room in December. The only request we made was for a building in Jamaica. I just love love love the yellow buildings. Again though, it won't be the end of the world if we don't get our requests. It would just be nice.:)

I totally agree about the color! To me, the pictures don't even look like there's a comforter on the bed. It just looks like wrinkled sheets. My bed at home looks nicer than this. Not changing our reservation, but disappointed with the blandness of this room.

I might has missed a post regarding reburbished room being already used, it looks like this room is being used, I noticed the thermos near the TV.

The person that took the pictures said they are staying in the room and were posting pictures. It is as reliable as any other claim by a completely anonymous person on the internet can be. You know people wouldn't just go on the internet and lie don't you? :) It looks real to me though and I don't see why they would just make it up.

My husband called the resort phone number. (Front Desk) They told him that they are supposed to be done by Oct. They are working on some entire buildings and also rooms without people next door in other parts of the resort. She said they are not listed as Renovations since they are just changing furniture and making cosmetic changes so that is why there is no formal posting.

Meaning all of the rooms will be completed by October? How is that possible?

If it just furniture and paint I would imagine after you did a dozen of them you would start to knock them out pretty quick. How long would it take professional movers to move two beds and a couple pieces of cabinetry? 20 minutes at the most? It looks like the hardest mechanical thing is the sliding doors to the bathroom. I bet after the first couple they can knock that out in 15 minutes. It is a couple of screws into a stud and then hang the door on the rod. The tenth room will go 10 times faster than the first.

On the other hand, I never trust anything until I verify it three different ways. :coffee: I doubt they would have to pull all these permits if it was only furniture and paint but the overall point stands. They'll get faster as they go. Also, don't forget Disney is losing huge amounts of money by having rooms that they aren't able to fill. It is in their interest to get them done fast. Even with all that the October time is kind of hard to believe since there are 2112 rooms in the resort. Especially since they don't want the place to look like a construction zone.

Edit: To get this done in that timeline they would have to do about 17 rooms a day 7 days a week. Depending on how many they've already done. If they have a hundred people working and all the parts and pieces are in place they could do that. I've never seen a project where somebody was willing to commit that kind of money to getting something done quick but on the other hand this is Disney. You can get just about anything done quick if you're willing to open up the checkbook.

All rooms finished by October? When they did the very same type of refurb at Port Orleans Riverside in 2011/12 - it took a full year start to finish. The permits for CBR are dated up to the spring of 2015.

POR has 2048 rooms - CBR has 2109 (as per wdwinfo.com ;)) 2109 rooms done by October means 23 rooms per day, going 7 days a week.

Figuring they are still just working in Jamaica village and started over a month ago makes it appear that are not getting 23 rooms a day done. Keep in mind as well, that with free dining starting in mid August (Aug 17th for CDNs) - August/September occupancy shot up at CBR when it became the only choice in the Moderate category. More rooms full means less rooms free to be worked on.

The refurb involves gutting the rooms, making necessary repairs, patching walls & painting etc, new light fixtures, I'm hearing there are possibly hvac modifications? - new carpeting, new furniture, Murphy bed installation? and soft goods. At POR bathrooms were re- tiled as well...

October sounds very ambitious for completion... But by October there should be a number of rooms/Villages done & available to be occupied.

I talked to a friend that works at CBR yesterday (over 20 yrs). She says 41 and 42 are done, 43 is ready to open, 44 is half way done, and 45 is torn apart. Removing the 384 rooms in the Pirate section, and the 192 that are refurbed, they only have 1536 left. Piece of cake :rotfl2:

Might as well add that I will be there Sept 13 to 20. I'll bring my abacus.

So there will no longer be pirate rooms?

There will still be Pirate Rooms. They will not be touched. The PP was saying if you remove the 384 Pirate Rooms plus the rooms already completed from the count of what they have left to refurb, there's still 1500 rooms left. Meaning it highly unlikely to be completed by August.

Here is a semi-related question to requesting a refurb room. I'll be there Christmas week. I've never done an onsite resort before so don't know exactly how the request system goes. If I just requested a room in Jamaica would that be likely to be granted? I would think that broad of a request could be easily fulfilled. I don't really care where I am in the resort. I just want a queen bed.

I'd say your odds are really good you'd get a room in Jamaica.
