I love that POR has so much shade around the pool deck! Personally, I am not a sun worshipper but a nice day in Florida, sitting by the pool, in the shade.......now that's my idea of relaxation!

Refurb question. . .

Aligator Bayou, lodges 36, 37, 38, 39: starts 25 October 2011, for approx 8 weeks.

Does this mean all these 4 lodges will not be available during this time, or are they doing 1 at a time and allowing occupancy for the others?

This is just the most heavenly picture!!

Does anyone know which quiet pool this one is? Or do they all look like this? :cool1:

That actually looks like Old Man Island....I think I see the slide at the bottom of the pic. Here is a pic of a quiet pool in AB if you are interested though:

From the looks of it, with the kiddie pool in the background, and the net covering the slide in the foreground, I'd have to say this is the main pool. Out of the shot to the right would be the flumes and the island, as well as the hot tub.

I'm booked in for the Royal room in April with a river view can anyone tell me where these rooms are located?

I'm not sure if it's been announced which of the 4 Mansions will be the Royal Rooms yet. We are all waiting.

Part in Oak Manor and the rest in Parterre Place.

I had a lovely riverview room in Parterre Place this past November, and I wasn't thirty feet from the river. Quite lovely.

Could someone explain what does "riverside standard view" means?

And are there certain spots in each of the mansions that are preferred rooms? Or is it all the rooms in the mansion closest to the main building?

BTW, I love those photos!

There is now a category of themed rooms and regular rooms; a standard riverside view is NOT a themed rooms.

So far the preferred rooms are only in building no. 14, 15, 16, and 18. These are closest to the main building and its amentities. There are no preferred buildings in the mansions.

With the new 'garden view' category now added to the mix from 2012, I expect the cheapest rooms will now most likely be on the far sides of the mansion buildings (i.e. parking lot side) and similar locations in Alligator Bayou. But it's all guesswork at present of course, and probably will be until the new year.

Just as an FYI. I wrote this email to Disney:

I have heart that the the resort will begin going through a
refurbishment to replace the double beds rooms with queen beds starting
in June 2011. Will there still be refurbishment going on when we arrive
on May 24th. If yes, I might consider staying at a different resort. Any

This is the answer I got:

The replacement of the double beds is slotted to be completed near the
end of March 2012.

portorleans.com shows different dates for the refurbishment. Does anyone of you guys have more info?

Even if there is still some refurbishment going on in May 2012 (which I do now believe will probably be the case) there's no reason at all to change resorts as it would only be effecting one Alligator Bayou lodge at a time, so in such a spread out resort you are unlikely to even know it's happening unless you hunt for it. Don't worry.

No, as indicated in the rest of the news posting, I think it should be one building at a time (in the order listed), but there will be some overlap:

The construction work will happen one building at a time, however especially in Alligator Bayou it looks as though work on the next lodge may well commence before the previous one has been fully completed, giving some overlap where two buildings could be out of use at the same time.

Anyone just back from AB? I am hoping they are not letting the rooms go because of the impending rehab. read some reviews that were not so great. Hope they are still in good shape.

By the way, anyone worried about being at POR during the rehab, please don't. I stayed at POFQ during the rehab over there. We got building 7 (in the back) & the building next to us was under rehab & we were not disturbed in the least. :)

The WDW booking website doesn't seem to be able to add up through...

For example, searching for POR for 10 April shows a basic rate of $234 for Standard View. Royal Room River View is listed as +$68 from there, which my little brain thinks should work out to $302. However if you select that option, the Royal Room River View bookable rate shows as $294 (and Standard View room is still listed as being -$68 from that).

How odd!
