74 days and counting to our first disney trip! We are staying at POR 7 nights and now we are down to planning the details so I have a few questions about hte room / resort

What is supplied in the room - coffee/tea/ soap(body & /or hand), shampoo, conditioner, lotion? If these things are offered, can you have these things replenished if you choose not to have your room cleaned each day. What is the quality of the soap /shampoos etc.

what are the hours of the counter service restaurant - especially for mug refills

Pool hours?

How long of a walk from the main building at POR to the pool at POFQ?

Lifejackets available at the pool for the kiddos or can we bring a swim ring or swimmies?

We will be there end of august...do we need to pack bug spray? I have a couple of kids that react pretty bad to bug bites but I have no idea what kind of bugs (aka musquito kind) that florida even has

Im sure there will be more specific quiestions but these are the ones I can think of now.

thanks !

After booking free dining in September 2010, my husband finally relented and let me tell the kids that we were making a return visit to WDW in August. We previously stayed at POFQ and will now be staying at POR (August 20-27!). We have two rooms with one adult and 2 kids in each. Not sure what to request? A preferred room is not in the budget but we do like AB, especially with the trundles. Now if there will be some rehabbed mansion rooms available, our decision is really difficult. I know in the long run that Disney will make the determination which section we are in but I still want to add a request. Suggestions?

Coffee/Tea, and a combination shampoo/conditioner are supplied. Mousekeeping replenishes them when they go in your room. However, a few years ago, I got sick and didn't leave the room but for a few minutes at a time for two days or so. She left a entire bag of towels, toilet paper, and shampoo and soap for me.

Beverage station and bakery open at 6:00 am; service opens at 7:00 am. It is open until 10:00 pm when I go, but busier times I think it is open until 11:00 pm.

The main pool has a lifeguard from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm in August when you are there. There are no lifeguards at the quiet pools. You can swim in any of the pools from 7:00 am to midnight, but I have been out there from time to time in the middle of the night.

The walk to POFQ pool is about 10 to 15 minutes. You can also take the water taxi as well.

Canon XTI SLR. It is a very old slr compared to whats out now. For the shots I try to find something interesting, compose it, make sure the lighting is good, and that the camera is set to produce the best shot possible. (cloudy, direct sunlight, tungsten light). The more shots you take the better off you will be. I find that I get about one good shot for every five or more I take. Thanks for the nice comments.

This shot is over by the mansions right near the river. It is a very lovely area. Thanks for the nice feedback.

Ah....that's why they are so striking. I have an Pentax SLR but it is just so big (and with all the equipment that goes with it) that it is just not practical to bring it with me on vacation. Instead I use a pocket Nikon digital camera which may explain why my pictures pale in comparison. Oh well.

And don't knock the "very old slr" it still performs wonderfully!

Thanks. But I wouldn't discount any camera really. I use to shoot with a Sony cybershot that took wonderful day shots. Not to up on the Pentax but know its still a great brand.

Our flight from L.A. will arrive at 8.30 pm on Thursday 29 September. We are then getting the Magical Express to POR. Does anyone have an idea about what time we would get to POR? I'm just wondering if I'd better get the children some food at the airport in case the Food Hall at POR has closed by the time we are there.

I think it would be at least 10pm before you got to the hotel, maybe longer depending on buses. Most likely the food court would be winding down by then (some parts stay open till 11, but not all) so it might be an idea to get something at the airport, just in case.

We got there in about 1 hr but it was almost midnight by the time we got into the airport (flight delays because of weather). We had to stop at Old Key West, French Quarter, and then Riverside when we went.

Today's picture of the day.

Disney has some of the rates posted for 2012. They have some of the rates posted for the royal rooms at POR. There are three separate catagories - Royal Room Standard View, Royal Room Garden View, and Royal Room Water View.

Rates for May 2012:
Royal Room Standard = $210
Royal Room Garden = $220
Royal Room Water = $235

So for May 2012, the Royal Room Standard View is $30 per night more than the regular standard view ($180).

Will they still have some regular standard rooms like now?

Does anyone here know if the newly themed rooms are included in discount promotions when they are available?
Thanks,
Kim

Does anyone know if the refubished rooms in AB will still sleep 5? We were planning on going in September 2012, and it would save of TONS of money if they did! Thanks! :thumbsup2

Yes, there will still be regular standard views for 2012. The room catagories for 2012 at POR are Standard, Garden, Water, River, and King. These are in addition to the royal rooms.

The pirate themed rooms at CBR have been discounted so I would guess that the royal rooms would be discounted.

I was just on the Disney website looking at POR page checking 2012 rates. Where they have descriptions of rooms, it reads that "Riverside" rooms have 2 double beds while Garden view and Royal guest rooms have 2 queen beds. It seems like they are keeping doubles in AB in order to accomodate the trundles as it shows Garden view and Royal Guest rooms as only allowing 4 for max occupancy. Kind of strange though that the preferred rooms show 4 for occupancy as well but read as having trundles and the preferred are all AB buildings.:confused3 When I go in to price our Aug 2012 trip though it allows me to choose a preferred room for 5 of us. (Hopefully, this will hold up when we are ready to book!!)
Just thought this was interesting in light of the upcoming refurb. Might answer the question of if they were going to have queens with the trundle beds. :sad2:

Rats! Oh well, if I am tired enough, a double is just fine! Although my DS14 and DS8 are both getting bigger and bigger so not sure if they can share on a dbl. much longer!

What's interesting is that if you go to their website for bookings for next year, POFQ still shows double beds in the description.

They have since corrected the double posting of the garden view and there is a riverview now.
