Has anyone done the horse-drawn carriage ride at POR? I am thinking of doing it on our arrival night. We arrive at MCO at 3:15. We are going mid/end August - is this something that I really need to reserve ahead of time? Not sure how popular these rides are and if possible I would like to just walk up and do it, not have to reserve ahead of time. What are anyone's thoughts on this?

We stayed at POR in October last year and we had a carriage ride. Its wonderful. My husband made the reservations by phone before we left home. The night of the ride it was raining, so we cancelled, by phone again and made a reservation for the following night. I would recommend make a reservation, they were really booked up when we went. You will really enjoy the ride!

We usally stay at POFQ but since my kids are both getting a litlle older and are both mobile now. And we only need one single lightweight stroller now. We went with POR I think that the theme of this side of the resort appeals to me more. WE stayed at POFQ in the past because it was small and one bus stop. Now that I dont' have to carry kids on my hip I don't really care about the walk.

So if we are staying in one of the furthest building and don't want to walk to the first bus stop. Will they not pick up at the rest of the resort? Since we have stayed at POFQ I can remeber just stopping at the 1st bust stop and skipping the rest of POR. OR does the POFQ bus only stop there if the bus is not full at POFQ? I guess what I'm getting at does POR have it's own bus service?

POFQ and POR only share buses when it is really busy.

The POR bus always stops at all four stops.

We didn't go to WDW last year :scared1: and now we're super excited to be staying at POR for the first time :goodvibes I haven't made any request to where we would like to stay because we just don't know as we've never been there before. I'm thinking of just taking what we get and make that a surprise, there is 3 of us me, DH and DD, 15

Added one more day to our stay, room only, to be able to use our 1 day non-exp tickets, can't wait for September to get here :woohoo:

I think that is a great way to go; I don't think there is any disappointing area in POR.

Thanks so much. I was a little worried since when we stayed at POFQ sometimes we would pick up at POR and only stop at the first stop.

There are five of us and when we went in 2008 we were supposed to go to POR. it was fine for a while the Disney got in contact with our travel agent and asked if we would mind switching because they had a convention coming and would give us two rooms. That was great the kids could stay in one and we could lock them out.......I mean they had their own place and we had ours.

But this year we are on our way to POR at the end of Sept. We were going in Oct but with the free dinning...

Thanks so much for your input on the carriage rides at POR. How far in advance should I make the reservations? I can not decide if I want to do it on our arrival day or the next day, which is our anniversary.
Thanks I can not wait to go to POR in August, it sounds like such a wonderful resort!:)

Your anniversary sounds like a great day to do the carriage ride, it's a really romantic, relaxing activity. Just make sure you don't end up too rushed if you've also got a meal booked, for example.

Just booked a flight for our second WDW trip! We'll be headed down after Thanksgiving. We're thinking of staying at POR (last time we stayed at CSR) but we're a bit confused about what the rooms actually look like. We've seen some pics of rooms with blue bedspreads on beds with wooden posts, and pics of rooms with yellowish/orange bedspreads with different beds. What's the difference? :confused3

There are two sections to Riverside - the rustic cajun Alligator Bayou (with the wooden bed posts and blue spreads) and the stately Magnolia Bend (with the flowery, somewhat more plush feel to the rooms). See the first post in this thread, plus the photo gallery at my website www.portorleans.org/gallery.php, for more info.

Call once you're settled and make your reservation, for the next day, your anniversary. This way it will be all the more special. It really is a very relaxing ride and you get to see a little bit of POFQ along the way. I hope you have a wonderful anniversary! How many years? We alternate going to Disney with a cruise, this is the cruise year and next year will be Disney - I can't wait! I'm already looking forward to staying at POR and having a carriage ride.

Oh, wow, I can't even count the days...we won't be back until marathon weekend. But I can already taste the carrot cake cookies at Goofy's!
