I recall many months back that you mentioned that in AUS they tax your cats

Not a tax per se....I have to pay local council registration fees to keep cats (and dogs). I think it's about $25 per cat per annum. If I want to have more than 2 cats, I have to get a special license and prove that I'm not breeding them (i.e., vet papers). To have a 3rd cat, the license is $75.
