The nerve of some people!

In my book check out time is 11 and that's the deadline unless you wish to notify the lobby that you're staing another day on cash or points, and to verify that the resort is not to capacity. To still be in the room at 2pm is beyond ridiculous and the occupants should be charged an additional day and asked to leave by management.

jekjones1558 : I will continue to tip my good mousekeepers and hope that it helps them to forget about the boors who visit WDW.

:thumbsup2 Agree Jean....and I'm also all for financial penalties for those who abuse the checkout times.

That's one thing I've said many times, I can not stand to see a CM being treated badly. They do SOOOO much to make our vacations magical. Mean people, well, I can't say it on disboards. Let's just say, they stink!

Oh heck yes, we can say suck here. :p I'll say it for you....

mean people suck!!

What is the exact wording of the checkout time? If it doesn't already say it this way perhaps a change is in order...I'm thinking NOT "Checkout is at 11 a.m." but

"The checkout time is 11 a.m. AT THE LATEST"

or
"On your checkout day the latest you may be in your room is 11 a.m."

And maybe MAYBE allow for a 1/2 hour allowance...or just 15 minutes just as a small courtesy.

I'm sorry the poor cast member was treated this way. Rude people will always be rude people no matter what their socio-economic level may be. There are several things that Disney can and should do in a case like this :

If the guest(s) have booked the room with cash charge them the applicable rack rate until they choose to vacate. What little I've read about hotel guests that overstay is that is the first option the hotel can exercise. Have you ever noticed when you check into the room at your typical hotel that little tag posted inside the door has a rate listed that is waaayyyyy more than what you were paying ? This is why.

If the room is booked with points then have member services continue deducting the applicable points from the owners account until they leave.

If the room is booked with "rented" points the above should still apply. Sure, it sucks for the member who actually owns the points but this is one of the chances you take when you rent out points. You are still the responsible party in this case, even though it is the "renters" that are irresponsible.

Reading this thread, I am not going to get that upset. Why, because there are always going to be those people who do not want to follow the rules. DVC now has many, many members and there are going to be those that just act this way, its a fact of life. Heck, they may not even have been DVC members. I just remember to do my part and treat everyone with courtsey and respect and follow the rules. All these ideas about growing bigger ***** and having security rush up and evict them are just not in my mind valid. I feel that Disney does try and do their best without creating a big scene. I know I will probably have a few who feel I am being cold and uncaring about this but I feel it is just a rude couple of people so move on....smjj :confused3:confused3
Each is entitled to their opinion. It sounds like you're and mine are the same as to who/how; however it is my belief that the situation can be made better or worse over the long haul based on how it's handled. IMO it is worth the right people creating conflict and giving consequences such as an extra days charge even if the charge gets reversed later as it often does.

I agree... to bad for bad apples.

so sorry she was treated so unfairly.

that say some of the rudest people at oKW were the CM..... one reason why I sold it.

if disney can throw out people who bring their pets (it has been done) - so why can't they throw out people who are staying in a room but not paying for it.

if the maid came back before I was ready - try to find her and tell her when I leave - that is only courtesy. really feel for them - it is so hard to clean a room when the guest won't leave.

My understanding i they can evict them very easily in this situation under FL law.

If the resort isn't 100% sold out, there's an easy solution for guests who refuse to vacate their villa when they're supposed to:

The resort needs to charge an additional night to those guests, either in points or cash, and to tell those guests that they are now welcome to stay in the villa until 11 a.m. the next day. I believe the law would be on the resort's side. Sure, the guests are likely to be angry if that happens, but I wouldn't have any sympathy for them.

I'm not saying there shouldn't be a reasonable grace period after 11 a.m. Also, if there are unusual circumstances, such as a sick child, and the guest makes arrangements with the resort, I could see making an exception.

However, guests who stay beyond check-out into the afternoon should pay for that privilege.

The research on this type of penalty suggests the opposite. People view the additional charges as the cost of breaking the rule. When this has been tested the rule breaking increased. Maybe it would be better if the room went dark -- no power and the locks reset after 11:15 am.

Perhaps the squatters should be charged not only the extra day for the room they are in, but also pay for another room for the other guests that they are displacing....

I am all for bending of rules for a good guest experience, hardship, etc. However 2pm is excesive and not reasonable. The altercation would want me to make sure and charge the guests for the extra time. Kinda funny but there was a whole other thread complaining about how mousekeeping knocks way to early before 11am and rushes guests out. Be reasonable, people!!!!! Disney too!!!!!

That is the case if it is a small penalty. (Like the $1 per minute at day care centers.) If it were a big cash penalty (like rack rate for 1 night), I think that would work to discourage. Imagine paying $800 on a 2BR for being late without permission! A little of that could go as a nice gift for the incoming people who are delayed past checkin time, with a bonus for the mousekeeper to boot! Then maybe they wouldn't knock on any doors -- they'd hope you were late! :rolleyes1

Now I like bending a rule every now and again, but I totally understand why this rule is here and think its rather inconsiderate to check out after 11am. Now, keep in mind a bad hair day may get me out of there at 11:10 or something,(we've been lucky to be out by 11am so far) but 2pm...totally out of the question.

To clairify, I too feel the people also need to be charged. I was just saying there have always been and always will be those who will treat people like this no matter what rules are put in place. I have read this thread completely and unless I missed it, I did not read where she called her supervisor and gave them the oppertunity to handle it. Did she or didn't she and what did they do about it if she did? For all we know they did evict them, let the air out of their tires, or yelled at them, we don't know, we are assuming a lot here??...smjj

As a part time department store sales refugee, I can tell you that working with John Q. Public is rough.

It's not only Disney, it's every where. Look at holiday shoppers, people know good and well that if they make a stink, scream and holler 9 times out of 10 they will get their way.

At least once a year especially during the summer we see threads right here on the Dis from people who actively encourage pool hopping. It's always justified by the "I paid a zillion dollars to stay in a deluxe I should be able to invite grandma and cousins to swim at the pool"

How many threads do we see about how disney should "bend" the rules to keep customers happy? From every thing to letting little Johnny who is way under the height requirement ride space mountain, to splitting dining credits. Not sure if it's an entitlement expectation or we simply do not like following rules, who knows.

I always say I see way more guest behaving badly than I do rude cm's

Now I like bending a rule every now and again, but I totally understand why this rule is here and think its rather inconsiderate to check out after 11am.

That statement illustrates the reason why we are even having this discussion. The bottom line is that most people feel entitled to bend or break certain rules at will with no consideration for their fellow guests.

Some feel it's OK to exceed a room's listed occupancy. Some feel it's OK to have other family members join them at the resort pool. Some have no qualms about smoking on the balcony, parking two vehicles outside their Treehouse Villa or pool hopping to Stormalong Bay. And some think they have every right to stay in the room beyond 11am.

These problems exist because members feel they can do a better job of filtering out the "important" rules from the "insignificant, nit-picky rules that don't harm anyone when broken."

ummm....I said I was against breaking this rule, but was understanding of someone who went 5 or 10 minutes over on a rare occassion.

However, as far as ever breaking rules...it goes back to the conversation about...if you are headed to the ER at 3am and are stopped by a long holding light with nobody around and excellent visibility...do you sit there or run the light? Keep in mind...if YOU are driving and not using an ambulance, its a somewhat minor emergency. (Labor, Gall Stones, Kidney Stones)

Some people would sit there, some would cautiously decide to go forward, and some would run through the light without slowing down.

I'm sorry but one has not to do with the other unless you're in labor, in your villa and the ambulance is coming! and if you're using a reserved room, then they should move you into the hall!

The rules are the rules! Out by 11am. If you are prown to bad hair day's, then get up earlier or go as is.
