Has anyone ever heard of a play called The Nerd? My school is considering this one for our annual play. I have already searched for it and could not find much information. I was wondering if someone could tell me about it. Are there many girl parts? I know the two leads are guys. I am already in the class this year and I had a lead last year. I am just wondering what it is exactly about. Thanks for your help.

It is a VERY funny play and there is one really good role for a woman (Tansy - the girlfriend) and at least one smaller role for a woman.

If you look on Amazon there is a pretty good review written by a reader.

If you get the chance to work on this show you'll have a great time.

Good luck!

We recently saw this show at a school in our area. My dd's best friend was Tansy. They did double cast it as its such a small cast. I wouldn't recommend it though because it does have such a small cast. My dd's school prefers shows like Bye Bye Birdie, Hair, and Grease that there can be a large ensemble and alot of kids get a chance to be in the production. The Nerd is good if you have a small theater dept. but schools here in NYC have about 1000 - 5000 students in them.

Thanks for the info. I did not think there were many roles for girls and there will be a bunch of people in the class this year. I am kind of hoping they will choose something else so everyone can have a role.

GREAT play. 7M, 2F though, so if the prime consideration is getting everybody onstage, it's not a good choice.

If you've got so many people involved, is there any chance they could do 2 plays -- do The Nerd as your straight play, and then do a musical? That's what my HS did (back when dinosaurs roamed the earth).

Here in NYC alot of schools are suffering from budget cuts, so they don't have alot of funding for arts programs. If you want to get alot of people up on stage you can do what my dd's school is doing this year. Its a "Broadway Revue" Lots of songs from different Broadway shows, should be alot of fun for the kids and this is good for a big group of students. They can do ensemble pieces from different shows or solos. POB14, what you suggested is exactly what one of the schools just did here, The nerd for the straight play and a spring musical, I think that school is doing Your a good man charlie brown.
