The Naughty Nuts Redux: Cocktails, Suntan Oil & Barbs!

Congrats on finishing everything up, fellow Trollop Triplet!!! :dance3: I'm sure you are a wonderful teacher and the tykes have learnt plenty!!! :teacher:

See...I'm being nice to you   :lovestruc :flower3: :cloud9: even though I was the very lastest person mentioned in your greeting. :guilty:
Hey, I wasn't even there, so you're a step above me.

The RobInBigKC household is having our first "tornado warning party" of the season. A tornado touched down on the ground about 25 miles from us, in Plattsburg, MO, at 7:26 Central and then headed our way but I think it's going to about 10 miles north of us when it passes.

Anyway, we're ALL (4 boys, 2 parents, 2 cats, 1 dog) down in the basement (staying away from windows :thumbsup2 ) and watching the Disney channel on one TV and the storm coverage on the other. DS7 was a little anxious when the storm sirens went off, so I'm inside to ease his concerns even though I prefer to take in most of my storm watching from the front porch.

In other news, one of the players on DS10's baseball team left this morning with his two siblings and his folks for those kids' first trip to WDW ever. They are staying at the Poly for a week. Wish I was with them.

I know, I know....wishful thinking. It would be fun though!!! :cool1:

Hope the sirens stop soon. That is definitely not a pleasant sound. Stay safe.

I just went out to get my teacher a gift. After much debate and deliberation (obsession, even) I got her a board game for the classroom because the kids are always bored at indoor recess as well as 2 of my favorite books. They're really good books. She's sure to love them. I can't say enough about this woman, she is amazing. I want to be her! She was the best teacher of how to be a teacher ever! And she put up with me all this time...need I say more? I will now proceed to write a heartfelt letter of gratitude. On Disney Princess thank you notes. duh.

Thanks for your concern, Liz and Lis!

Well, two passed by, about an hour apart, a LONG, LONG ways from us. It's calm now but I guess there are others that might still come through our county. The closest one has been about 10 miles away and it was in the air at the time.

Whatever! You obviously posted while I was writing my post.

PLUS you slapped me down on the tornado thing on that other thread.

Ok, sincerely, thanks for your concern too PJ. You did sneak in while I was writing my post.

Apparently not. Or at least if we did I didn't make much of an impression.

YIKES, Robbie, I hope as I am typing this post, things have settled down. STAY SAFE! :grouphug:

GOOD NIGHT NUTTY BUDDIES!!!

PJ - I speak from experience, teachers LOVE to get letters/thank yous from former students! I haven't done it very often, but when I graduated from college, I felt the need to write a letter to Doc Milani for being such an awesome teacher. We didn't keep in touch, but a few years ago, my company had a meeting at the school and I ran into him. At this point, it had been 7 or 8 years since I'd graduated. I said that he probably didn't remember me, but he said he did AND he remembered my letter. Of course, maybe he says that to former student... :guilty:

Rob - 10 miles, IMO, is NOT a "long long ways"! Not for a tornado, anyway - those things are unpredictable! Glad you're all safe!

Hi all,

Just checking in to see if Rob had shown up... several tornadoes and lots of damage up in the area he lives. Of course I'm not exactly sure where he lives but... Well I'm thinking of you Rob.

We had LOUD winds and tons of rain, spent some time in the basement but no damage and obviously still have power.

So, hello to all of you... I will check back to see about Rob and say hi again.

:flower3:

Awww, thanks Rella. You're so sweet.

Yeah, I'm ok and I'm pretty sure my house is. I just got a phone call from my mom calling from work to check on me. I guess one of the tornadoes was a bit closer than I thought. Mom works for the city police department and she told me that they had set up a special command post at my church which is about two miles from my home because some neighborhoods about four miles from my home got hit hard as in, she thinks, houses completely gone.

I'm sure I'll be out surveying the damage this weekend.

On a more personal note, I have been parking my car outside these past few weeks because we saved one of our old couches for the basement (would have came in handy last night) but we haven't been able to make room for it  down there yet. Well, DS15 went out to my car to get his digital camera so he could take pictures of the stormy skies and, I guess, in the process must have hit the trunk release button so my trunk lid was open most of the night in the driving rain storm. Blech. Still, better than losing my home.

I'm not picking on you, Rob, seriously, but I think it's funny that you say your mother called to check on you. My mother used to do something similar all the time when I lived alone and we had winter snowstorms. I'd have to call her when I got to work and call her when I got home so she knew I was safe!

Must be a Mom thing - no matter how old your kids are, you still check on them, huh? :teeth:

Hope you don't have a lot of damage, if any at all!

Well, I'm glad to know you and your family are ok. And you're off to work just like a normal day! Good for you.

The pictures and video on TV are pretty amazing. Much more damage than was expected. The northland got hit pretty hard... again. :guilty:

Not that I'll be missed, but I wanted to say goodbye. I'll be off the DIS for a while, until I can handle how much it has changed.

Rob...glad you made it out alive.

Liz...that was nice of you to write a letter to your professor. Even though I just have little kids, the letters mean a lot to me, too.

I am feeling very reflective this morning so I am going to have to force myself not to ramble. I had a very nice last morning with the kiddos. I am definitely going to miss them. With different things I've had going on this semester they've always cheered me up with their hugs and smiles, and kind words. Their hearts are so big. I'll never forget my time spent with them. They all wrote me letters. Some of my favorite excerpts:

"Good luck on your gragiwashon, bremember me always."

"Dear Miss Lauren I'll miss you so so so so so so so so much! Your lessons are so great! Are you going to give us gifts? Or toys?" Now that kid gets right to the point! :lmao:

"Miss Lauren you are a good teacher and I love your hair styles. When I come in the class and I say hi you really say hi back and give me a hug. That is why I like you."

"Good luke for graduate from calig." Spelling lesson time! :rotfl:

"You rocks. Well done." Short and sweet!

And I have pictures to share with my friends which you will all find elsewhere. ;)

Happy Friday, everyone!
