The mystery of codes..

I know that we will probably never know how Disney decides who gets codes. We hear things like they are targeting certain demographics, etc. But I wonder why they care who gets the discounts - a full hotel is money in their pockets regardless. The codes don't necessarily seem aimed at "new" business, as they are sometimes given to those who have already booked.

Any thoughts on this?? Maybe I should have paid more attention during Marketing class!

I cant help but wonder the same thing. Instead of letting some codes go unuised (attached to persons name and no mailer sent), why not just release the code publicly and when the code availability is used up, it is gone. Like right now, I know many 40% off codes are going unused, but here I am, ready to book if I receive one, but we just wont go if we do not. We skipped Disney last year and we will skip it again this year, without an incentive to go. I know my one family choosing to stay home doesnt hurt Disney, but Im sure there are many more families just like us.

Maybe I can help just a little. ;)

I called last week to see if there was a code attached to my name. There wasn't but then they asked "Who is Chickie M." and I cracked up because that is my nickname and was surprised when he said it. Well, apparently Chickie has a code attached and Christie (which is the name our past trips were under) did not.

Chickie is the name I use when I ordered my 2008 Disney Planning DVD...so this is where the code came from. I don't know if this happens for everyone who requests the dvd but it may be worth a shot (I only requested it a week or two before I called for codes).

It may be worth a shot!!:upsidedow

I have ordered the DVD 3 different times (over the last several years), at all 3 of my addresses...still no code. If only it were that easy! :goodvibes
Oh and my parents are at the first 2 addy's and I have them looking out for the mailers....

I've had a few personal codes and some I have used and some I did not. I've gone more often when there were public codes available.

I don't like the idea of these personal codes; because, the ones who do not get it feel left out.

Since reading the boards and wanting to go this year I'm unwilling to go now without a good deal. The dates I want to go fall into the dates being offered for 40%. I don't want to do the dining plan this year; so, this code would be wonderful to get. I've done all the so called things to do to get a code including calling and asking for one. If there's a public code everyone has an equal chance of doing it. This personal code discount makes me feel less than whole. What did I do wrong; because, I didn't get a code? I took a Dec 2007 trip and I've been to Disney numerous times; I feel I deserve this code.

The economics is not there for me to go this year; unless, the deal is a good one. My dates are approaching; so, I may have to consider a later trip if I want a good code.

I'm not a jealous type; so, I'm glad for the ones who could get such a terrific personal code for 40%; that's awesome. I just want the magic for everyone.
