The Myrtles...did it survive?

Beauvoir is an old home which belonged to Jefferson Davis I believe.

Oh, duh, I knew that! Sorry! According to this article, Beauvoir is destroyed. :( It was right on 90 across from the water. There was a college there, too. And VA home.

Holy crap! Dammit! Sorry But gawd I'm so angry!!!

Official from St. Charles Parish on the radio now. Says flooding is minimal. He's actually saying it's OK for people to come home, although they'll be without power, & food supplies are limited.

Sounds like Destrehan Plantation should be OK.

Beauvoir still stands!!! The reports of Beauvoir being reduced to rubble are obviously false. Also, the other reports that Beauvoir's first floor was gutted is nonsense too because Beauvoir has no real ground floor.

The house is however heavily damaged: http://members.cox.net/connie_ward/Beauvoir.html

No flames from me. I'm a history buff (sorta -- more "historical places" buff), and the loss of so many historical buildings makes me sick, too. :(

Even Mother Nature could not destroy what the South had built!

Looks like it can be rebuilt.

Does anyone have any information as to if this historic plantation -turned- Inn survived the storm? I know it's not too far from New Orleans, about a 2 hour drive or so.

Before the flames start, I am in no way undermining the loss of life and personal property, but I have a particular fascination with this building and am curious to know if it survived the storm.

The thought of all these old buildings, just *gone* breaks my heart. The part of the country hit hardest has so much priceless history, losing these places is like losing a part of our history.

Don't feel bad, I was relieved when I heard that the French Quater was more or less undamaged. While human and animal life is more important, it is always a shame to lose historic or antique buildings. You can rebuild the average home, you can't rebuild a part of early American history!

I am relieved to see I am not alone. I am grieving also of losing my precious historic dreams. I loved living near NO, and all the history. I felt like someone kicked me in the stomach when I heard today the D Day Museum was looted and cleaned out. That is just sick...

I saw some pictures of the Beauvoir, and it is sad. I hope they can restore it. I have a distant relative buried there on the grounds. The stories that building holds...It is/was such a wonderful place to visit.
