I have not seen the show Hairspray, and I am wondering if it's appropriate for an 11-12 year old girl to see? I know it's early, but my dd and I get tickets for musicals every year for Christmas, and they have released next years schedule and there is not a lot of interesting shows this time.

Thanks!

My older daughter and I saw Hairspray last May and it was wonderful!!!! She was 16 at the time, and I felt her younger sister, age 11, would have been a little too young for it. This year, DD11 is now DD12 and has matured, so I think we will try and see it this summer on our NYC vacation in June. It's a very high energy, singing and dancing show, but there are two issues - the drag character and the racial stereotypes and undertones. As long as you read about the plot beforehand, and don't have any issues with your child seeing the play, it should be fine.

I saw it last night. (loved it, by the way) There is the mom in drag, but kids tend to think that's funny. (Our high school production of Cinderella had one of the hottest guys in the senior class dressed in drag as the wicked stepmother) There is also some rear-grabbing, breast-cupping, and a lot of mild innuendo. My eight year-old was too young for sure, but I don't know about an 11 year-old. I think it's a great show, and I would probably take my daughter as an 11 or 12 year-old to it, but that's me.

It's just like the movie. Rent it & see if you want your kids to see it.

I was thinking of taking my dd (7) since Diana is know staring. (I had seen it when it first opened with the orginal cast.)

I don't have any idea to the answer, but I thought your thread was about hairspray that plays music when you press on the spray button. :rotfl2: Really. Oh, boy. I really need to start going to plays, shows, and concerts again.

Except think of how stiff our hair would be if it was a long song! :rotfl2:

If it played American Pie, your hair would be able to withstand a tornado (oh wait, that WAS my hair in highschool :rotfl: ).
