The mummy ride

yeah, it's freaky...but after having it happen to me 4 times, it's not as bad...it's times like these though, that you aren't always glad to have the first or last row... :p :p :p

I was completely shocked they'd allow cars to come up behind each other as well...but thankfully, out of the times I've experienced this, we've never even touched the other car.

Of course, maybe I'm just overparanoid with these things... :o

For all the people who have never ridden before, don't even try to get in line to ride before you take your waist packs, etc. to the lockers (located to the right of the building as you look at the entrance). They won't let you take ANYTHING on the ride.
This has changed. Small hip packs are now allowed, as long as they are on your side when you get in the railcar. It's still best to put it in a locker, though.

The cars will never touch. They tried everything in their power to cause a collision many months ago, but they never did.

When we were at Universal 6/6, I thought getting stuck in line and then having to get out of line and never getting to ride The Mummy was the worse thing! Now, however, that I've heard about others getting stuck while ON the ride, I'm glad we didn't get on it!! Bugs don't bother me (I play w/ praying mantis!) but for some reason in the movie, the scenes w/the beetles just totally freaked me out. I would NOT have been a happy camper if that had happened to us and I'm sure my DD12 would not have been very pleased either. Does anyone know why the ride breaks down all the time? Sounds like it's an every day occurance?

It's a new ride, and almost all new rides go through this.

I call it Spider-Manitis.

I just rode it for the first time Saturday at a private party. They used the backup projections of Imhotep; perhaps they were trying to minimize the possibility of breakdowns during the party?

Anyway, I thought that it was well-done, except for one thing: too much visible ride mechanism. I found that the track was very easy to see, and all of the markings, etc. on it detracted from the "ancient tomb" feel. I don't like open coasters, and this one just didn't have enough of that "dark ride" feel on the coaster segments, IMO.

We're just back and rode the mummy twice. Yes, the ride was down several times while we were there. Sometimes down for hours. The ride even broke down while we were on it. Thankfully, we were at the end of the ride and were not stuck inside any of the rooms. We were led down back stairs and given an express pass for any ride in the park. That worked for many riders. We were staying onsite, so that wasn't much help for us. Anyway, I did enjoy the ride, but did not think that it was as spectacular as I had hoped. Would I ride again? In a heartbeat.
