Hi! Thanks for clicking into this thread and reading my pre-trip report. In this very first posting, I will introduce you to the cast of characters and provide some background information about me, DH, and past Disney experiences.

CAST
DH (Chris) is 33 years old and has never been to WDW. In fact, up until about a year ago, he was adamant that he would never go. More on that in a bit...

I'm Beth and 30 years old. I have been to WDW three other times - twice as a child with my parents, and once as an adult with my parents and brother. Technically, my brother was with us on my second trip as a child as my mom was 5 months pregnant with him. According to my DMa (and noted in my signature), he did not care for the teacups back then. In 2001, it was a different story!

DH and I have a DDog, Oscar. He is a German Shorthaired Pointer and is 5 years old. Oscar will not be joining us on our trip to WDW, but since he is our furchild, I suspect he will get mentioned from time to time.

AP is my best friend. No, I am not best friends with an annual pass...those are her initials and what DH and I call her.

Joe is her long-time boyfriend.

TRIP BACKGROUND

About one year ago, AP and I started discussing a trip for the four of us. Chris and Joe were not too keen on going to WDW, but we simply told them they were going. (And, if they got really miserable while they were there, they could drink their way around the world in EPCOT. That seemed to please them.)

With the turn of the new year, DH and I decided we should start looking into airfare and start planning with AP and Joe. I found great flights right out of our small, hometown airport - perfect times and only $60 more than any airports that were three hours away. I sent AP and Joe the information and Joe balked. We couldn't figure out why he was balking, but we quickly found out. Joe had a Colorado hunting trip planned for the same time, but neglected to tell AP this until DH and I were ready to make our plane reservations. Needless to say, AP and Joe are not going now and Joe is on AP's ish-list!

PREVIOUS DISNEY EXPERIENCES

Obviously, these are all going to be all mine, but I'll give you some of the highlights.

August 1980 and May 1981 - I was four, so I don't remember too many specifics from each trip other than the few notables things that happened in May 1981 when my mom was pregnant with my brother. I remember riding BTM with my dad and IT BROKE DOWN! We were stuck on the track on a sweeping turn. CMs came to offload us and we were escorted through the mountain! I remember it was a big hollow shell and there were paint cans and ladders off to the side along the wall. 26 years after it happened, I remember it! My mom said they roped off the ride area and asked all the guests to leave. Well, my mom was only 5 mos PG, but my brother was a giant baby, so she looked further along. She freaked and said, "my husband and daughter are in there, I'm not leaving!" and the CMs were concerned that she would get too upset and pass out or something, so they let her stay. Of course I come bounding out yelling, "Ma...I was INSIDE THE MOUNTAIN!" Also from those trips as a child, I remember riding Dumbo with my parents, the HM and the Doom Buggies overlooking the dining room, and the Jungle Cruise.

May 2001 - we return after a 20 year absence from The World. It's my brother first time flying on a "big plane" (he'd flown in small Cessnas before) and his first extra-utero WDW experience. He liked the Teacups this time! :rotfl: I rode HM with my mom and about 1/2 way through the ride, I started to cry. I was remembering the ride. I tell you...when we passed that dining room, the waterworks really started. (I should note here that I am a very emotional person...I cry at Hallmark commercials!) We had an absolute blast. This was the first time we stayed on-property and we swore we would never stay off property again. That, and we'd be back before another 20 years had past!

TRIP PREPARATIONS

Needless to say, I am hooked on The DIS. So I've been here since the beginning of the year gathering tips and suggestions, asking questions, and offering what little WDW advice I can.

As I said, we have our plane tickets. We leave at 6 AM on our departure date and will be in Orlando by 10:30 AM. On our departure day, we leave Orlando at 7:30 PM. I think I did a great job optimizing our time at WDW with our flights. I'm quite pleased.

As of Tuesday, we have reservations for a standard room at WL. We were able to secure a sweet deal there. We had a choice between AKL and WL. I left it up to Chris, as I really didn't care one way or the other, and - as I've noted - he has been a Disney skeptic so I wanted him involved.

Well! Come to find out, he's been doing some of his own WDW research online, in books, and asking a co-worker that frequents WDW. When I asked him Monday at dinner which resort he wanted, he had a laundry list of reasons why he wanted WL over AKL, including - and here's where he gets sappy and sentimental - because WL would most closely resemble our honeymoon. (We honeymooned in Banff, Alberta, Canada, which is in the Canadian Rockies...very lodgey, woodsy, rustic, etc.) I swear I swooned! :cutie:

Also, as late as three weeks ago, DH was all, "You'd better make this the trip of a lifetime because this is the only time I'll go." Um, OK. Except TWO weeks ago, I joked that next time his family goes (and they go every few years) we could drive down to BWI and fly out with them for cheaper. He looked at me point blank (and I expected the "I said I was only going once!") and said, "Nah...I think next time we'll drive." Um, NEXT TIME?!? OK!!! :thumbsup2

So Mr. This-Is-My-Only-Trip-and-I'm-Indifferent-On-Choices-We-Have-To-Make is now Mr. We're-Driving-When-We-Go-Back-And-I'm-Doing-My-Own-WDW-Research! :cheer2: Fine with me!

His co-worker even said he's asking more and more questions and really seems to be "getting into it." HOORAY!!! :cheer2:

So far, we have picked one night's dining and that is the day of our actual anniversary and we will be dining at Le Cellier. Again, another honeymoon in Canada tie-in.

That's it for now. I know I'll have more to add in the coming days and weeks because the WDW conversations never end at our house.

Oh, and BTW, DDog has already "told" us that he wants a stuffed Pluto from WDW. pluto:

When do you plan to go? My DH and I will be going for our 8th anniversary in December. Before our first trip, he was like your DH. He wasn't too keen on it, and simply went because he knew it meant a lot to me. However, as we neared WDW and he got a glimpse of the castle, it was all uphill from there! He has been a certified Disney freak, right along with me. I can see that your DH is already heading in that direction and you guys haven't even left yet! :rotfl:

I enjoyed your first post, so far. Keep them coming. These pre-trip reports are really a great invention. :goodvibes

When do you plan to go?

Yikes! I can't believe I didn't mention this! We're going in October, during MNSSHP @ MK and F&W @ EPCOT.

Well, this past weekend, I managed to liberate 27 LGMHs from Home Depot while I was in Baltimore visiting my family. Trying to explain The DIS and LGMHs, etc. was interesting. My mom was all like, "Paint samples? You took paint samples?!? WHAT?!?!" Well, actually, at first I had to explain what a bulletin board looks like on the internet (she's not particularly PC-saavy) AND THEN I had to explain the significance of the LGMHs. I also picked up a couple other MHs in different colors for scrapbooking.

I visited the Disney Store while in Baltimore as well (White Marsh Mall) and got two T-shirts for $20 ($12.50 or 2 for $20). I got DH a "Grumpy and proud of it!" shirt and I got myself a Tink "Pixie 'Tude" shirt. When DH saw the Disney Store bag, he said he hoped I didn't get him a Mickey Mouse shirt (here we go...back to Captain Skeptical) but when he saw the Grumpy T-shirt, he wouldn't help but break into a smile and small chuckle. ::yes::

I got our confirmation letter in the mail over the weekend while I was gone. That's exciting!!! No other developments to report thus far. Well, there's one on the horizon...I am THIS CLOSE to being able to redeem my first Disney reward from Sunshine Rewards and that is exciting to me. Other than that, we have about 6 weeks until we can make our ADRs. So I guess we'll start talking about restaurants over dinner in the coming weeks.

That's it for now! Peace out, peeps! :wave2:

Hi!

Just wanted to post here so I can follow along. Me and my DH will be staying at WL shortly before you guys..so maybe we'll be able to share tips, etc.

Sounds like you're already in a big time planning mode!

Congrats and good luck!

Well, not too much has been done for the trip since I last wrote. I watched "Finding Nemo" for the first time last weekend. I received it for Christmas in 2005, but never got around to watching it. I loved it...it was adorable!!! That was Sunday afternoon while DH was out riding his motorcycle. That night Oscar and I watched Cinderella (he loves cartoons!) and I noticed DH kept peeking up to watch even though he was allegedly reading a book.

We've been talking about which restaurants to visit during our trip. I would like to have those decisions made before the end of the month because I can make our ADRs in four weeks.

I was able to redeem credits at Sunshine Rewards (google it...join it...love it!) for a $25 gift card for Disney. Hooray for me! I also got two unexpected checks in the mail this week - a rebate from Hasbro for board games from Christmas and payment for jury duty. Needless to say, they'll get cashed and put into the Disney fund!

I guess that's about it for now. I know it's not too terribly exciting, but things will be picking up here in the next few weeks as we decide on our ADRs and book them!

Bye for now! :flower3:

We are going 9/28-10/2 for a short trip for MNSSHP and F&W! We are staying at Coronado Springs. I am so excited about MNSSHP and kind of excited about F&W...I am a pretty picky eater but we are bringing my mom along for the trip and she is really looking forward to it.
It sounds like you DH is really coming around to things! You may be able to convert him to the good side ;)
Can't wait to read more!

You really have me laughing with the description of your DH and his reaction to the shirt. That's what's Grumpy for...he brings that reaction out in so many men!

I can't wait to hear about your ADRs. We have to wait until the summer to book ours, since we don't leave until December, but we're planning and replanning, nonetheless! Part of the fun, you know?

I just signed up for Sunshine Rewards. How long have you been doing it? How long does it take to start making Disney dollars? I figure that I still have about 9 months left before my trip, so I'm hoping to make some more trip money this way. Thanks for the tip!

I went back and looked at my account and I signed up on 1/29/07. Nearly two months later, I have earned over $40 total. As I mentioned in an earlier posting, I already redeemed for one $25 Disney gift card, which came VERY quickly I might add! I'm closing in on my second gift card and I suspect some internet shopping I plan to do over the next few weeks will help get me there. I've told DH that if there is anything he needs to order online to tell me and let me check to see if I can get it through a Sunshine retailer first. I think he originally thought I was nuts, but then the mail came last Tuesday with my gift card! :thumbsup2

Greetings, readers and fellow DIS-ers! I have labored long and hard on my planning spreadsheet to bring you a trip update. Nothing is set in stone just yet, as I need to wait until Sunday when the official October park hours are released to confirm some times and expectations. However, basing my planning on last year's hours and the unconfirmed dates for MNSSHP for this year, I have come up with the following plan:

Thursday (arrival day)
Arrive at MCO at 10:30 AM. DME to WL. Lunch at WCC at 1 PM. Explore WL until MK departure for MNSSHP at 4 PM. MNSSHP until midnight. Dinner at a CS restaurant whenever hunger strikes...but I'm sure we'll be loaded down from WCC lunch and with candy from MNSSHP, so we'll see.

Friday (the big day...our anniversary!)
Breakfast from Roaring Forks (probably just muffins & juice...grab & go!). EPCOT all day, EMH evening. "Roaming" lunch thanks to F&W Festival in progress. ADR for Le Cellier between 6 and 7 PM. (Since our honeymoon was to Banff, we decided to have our celebratory dinner in "Canada.") Illuminations at 9 PM (going to try for a cruise...any other October visitors interested???).

Saturday
Animal Kingdom all day. Arrive prior to park opening for "The Awakening" and the immediately proceed to Kilimanjaro Safari for early AM ride. Breakfast following safari. Tour rest of park throughout the day. Late lunch (2-ish). Upon park closing, bus to Contemporary. Explore Contemporary. Monorail to Poly. Explore Poly. 8 PM ADR for Ohana, view wishes from Ohana. Monorail to MK to catch Electrical Water Pagent, shop at MK Main Street, and see "Kiss Goodnight."

Sunday
Breakfast at Roaring Forks (grab & go). Magic Kingdom all day (most likely, though we may start at EPCOT). Dreams Come True parade at 3 PM, then monorail to Grand Floridian for ADR at 5 PM for 1900 Park Fare. Monorail back to MK for Wishes (in the park) and Spectromagic (late). EMH evening. Stay until we're pooped!

Monday
Breakfast at Roaring Forks (grab & go). MGM all day, EMH evening. Stars & Cars parade at 4 PM. Walk/boat to Boardwalk for dinner at Big River Grille & Brew Works at 5:30. Walk/boat back to MGM. Fantasmic at 8 PM. Stay until we're pooped! (This might change. I was at MGM 6 years ago and we barely filled 1/2 a day at MGM. If I notice DH is disinterested, we might escape back to EPCOT, which I think he will enjoy quite a bit. And to be honest, I'm such an Illuminations junkie, that I'll take that over Fantasmic any day. So we'll see...)

Tuesday (departure day)
EPCOT as long as possible, EMH morning. Breakfast in Future World somewhere. Lunch somewhere in World Showcase. Monorail to MK for one last look at the castle...and probably a few tears. Boat to WL for DME pick-up. Flight departs at 7:25 PM.

So there you have it. The preliminary itinerary for the trip. Like I said, once October park hours come out this Sunday, I'll be able to see how closely my plans match reality and then I'll make adjustments from there.

Your itinerary looks good so far. I know that once we set up ours, we changed it and changed it, and since we don't leave until December, I'm sure we may have more changes in store for us.

Sorry...this posted by accident...my full response is the longer one.

What is "The Awakening" at AK? I'm wondering if that's something we've missed in the past.

Continue to keep us posted. I'm enjoying your report, so far.

Well it has certainly been quite some time since I posted to my pre-trip report and it can only be attributed to sheer laziness and forgetfulness because I have certainly been spending enough time here on The Dis to have been posting all along, but really there hasn't been much to report until recently. In my last post I outlined what I thought would be our itinerary. Now that everything is in place, all ADRs made, etc., I can confirm what our plans will be for the trip.

Thursday (arrival day)
Arrive at MCO at 10:30 AM. DME to WL. Quick lunch at Roaring Forks at WL before leaving for MK. MK and MNSSHP until midnight. Dinner at an MK CS restaurant whenever hunger strikes.

Friday (the big day...our anniversary!)

EPCOT, EMH morning. Breakfast in Future World somewhere. Monorail to MK for last minute rides and lunch at Crystal Palace at 2 PM. One last look at the castle...and probably a few tears. Boat to WL for DME pick-up. Flight departs at 7:25 PM.

Other updates worth mentioning. As many of you know, codes for October packages came out last week (ZQG and ZQH for non DDP and DDP packages, respectively). We currently have a CM discount on our room (40%) and after running many, many sets of numbers and after spending hours pouring over different restaurant menus trying to decide what we MIGHT eat 60+ days from now, we decided that the potential package savings - a mere $15 - was not worth switching out for a package. In our preliminary menu planning, we were thinking we would eat beyond what the DDP would provide us in some instances (we eat "real" breakfast, not just a doughnut) and below what DDP would provide us in others (who needs dessert with lunch?!?). So we're keeping our CM discounted room, we added our 6-day park hoppers, and we're going to pay OOP for our meals. And we're very happy about that.

Also of note, I provided my reservations person with our flight information for DME, so that's all set up and ready to go.

I called the specialty cake line today and I'm awaiting a phone call back from the chef at Le Cellier about the possibility of doing an anniversary cake for our dinner there that looks and tastes very similar to our wedding cake (basket weave frosting design, chocolate cake, raspberry filling). I hope it works out because I think it would be a surprise for Chris.

Speaking of Chris, he's been wearing the "Grumpy and Proud of It" t-shirt that I bought him from the Disney Store quite a bit this summer. I can't tell if he likes it because of the saying or because this whole Disney thing is growing on him.

That's about it. Once I hear back from the chef at Le Cellier, I'll post with an update.
