The most dangerous amusement park in America?

My understanding is that the 360 degree loop water slide never opened to the public because it was far too dangerous. When we saw it, it was partially demolished.

I’ve also heard that this park closed down years ago because it was dangerous. The attractions were crazy with several that had long drops into a pool of water…not sure how far down the water was…but it hurt a lot when you hit the water….no way would I do that today.

It is completely true!!!!

I grew up not far from Action Park and have permanent scars on my left knee from the Alpine Slide. Lot of friends on Facebook are recounting injuries sustained there. But it was a LOT of fun! We even went on a daycamp excursion.

There was a slide called the Cannonball that was insane! My brother loved the Tarzan Swing (may still be there). The park is still there, though under a new name and safer (at least no deaths that I'm aware of). It's now Mountain Creek.

Love that this topic is on the DIS boards!

I went there a few times as a teenager, I think it closed around 96 or so. I know the loop water slide wasn't there to ride at that point the park was super dangerous, I remember riding home sitting on the floor of my pastors conversion van because he didn't want me to get blood on the seats, after my final run of the day on the alpine slide went awry. My friend got landed on by someone jumping off the rope swing while he was swimming to the side. Another friend was hit from behind on a water slide. A crazy place, but we were sad when it closed.

Was the cannonball the one that was a tube that went under ground and shot you out of the side of the wall? What was the really tall water slide called?

Yep, that was the Cannonball! I don't remember all the attractions names, however.

Ah! The return of Traction Park!

That place totally kicked my butt.
