I hate these types of shows, but I must say that I admire these women for their courage. I hope that they find what they are looking for.

I'll be at work and as part of my job I must watch it.

I hate it when an ad for it comes on. The ads now aren't nearly as annoying as they were when they first started advertising for it. At first they just showed all the girls crying because they weren't thin and no one would love them...ugh. That? Is not healthy.

Now they just show it as a reality dating show...not nearly as aggrivating (still aggrivating because it's a reality dating show, but not as much.)

I won't be watching. But I don't watch the Bachelor either...

I'm not crazy about reality shows in general...but this intrigued me a little bit. Being a plus size gal myself, I'm curious how they present it. If it is tasteful (well, as tasteful as reality TV can be :lmao: ), not lots of 'fat' type jokes and such, I might give it a chance. It looks like the bachelor and the ladies are all plus size...

Also gonna watch to see if I can get some style ideas for me :)

I have the tivo set up for it. My mother keeps calling it the "chubby bachlorette".

I knew I could count on the Dis to have a discussion going.:thumbsup2

I do not like reality shows and rarely watch them. However, I turned on the tv and this show was on. I have seen ads for it and was intrigued enough to watch the ladies be introduced to the guy.

SPOILER ALERT****

My initial randam thoughts are...
*I'm totally disgusted that the producers felt the need to display each lady's weight. Was that really necessary?
*I really like the guy. He seems very nice.
*I'm struggling with my reaction to all the crying over weight and the related issues. As a plus-sized gal for most my life, I'm saddened to see so many of these women with such lack of confidence in themselves.

Don't know if I will continue watching...

Like the PP, I think it's ridiculous to post their height and weight. I don't watch The Bachelor, but I'm positive they don't do that crap on there! Why didn't they post their bra size too??

I'm not sure if I'll follow this show. If it were simply a search for a plus size woman and not so centered on their size I might not mind, but they won't shut up about their weight. Can we start talking personality and such and not dwell on the scale?!

He does seem nice though. I'm a big girl myself, and it would be nice to find the right teddy bear, but I'm not sure a reality show is the way to do it.

From the thread title, I thought this was about the families that have lots of kids. My mom always said "more to love" when asked why she had a big family! I don't watch reality dating shows (except we watched the one in the Australian outback a few years ago) and I didn't even know this was going on.

I will not be watching the show, I just feel its not the right way to have a show like this, talk about segregation....why can't some of these girls be on the Bachelor? Or have one of them be a Bachelorette.

Sorry but I can't respect a show as a PP stated showed their height and weight??????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is the utmost disrespectful thing and these women that allowed that, just to be on TV, no way.

I feel sorry for them.

Completely agree about the height and weight post.... who agreed to this ???? :sad2:

I cannot imagine on the real bachelor show that they would ever show the women's height and weight. Now why is this different with this show??? Since they're bigger we need to know those facts??? Not watching it again.

I agree with all of you, displaying their height and weight was tacky and not necessary. There was too much crying over "no one likes me", but I'll probably keep watching and see if they tone that down in later episodes.

Hard to judge on that first short night. I did like Michelle though, (blond in the black dress). She was just so cute and happy. Sad she didn't get a ring.

The guy, Luke, seems like a sweetheart. The girl who jumped in the pool in her dress... not really my style, but I got a worse impression of the girl that ragged on her about it. Especially when she said something about "people who go to extremes to be noticed" or something like that, as she's standing there with a giant tattoo on her arm! :rotfl: Pot, meet kettle!

(nothing against tattoos, it was just the irony that got to me!)

I did not like how they had to give the rings back at the end of the night, then wait to get one back (or not).

I think the guy was pretty nice, but he sure did try for a little lip action. I mean, he asks for a kiss...why not wait until maybe the 2nd time he sees them, not an hour or 2 after they meet. I also didn't like that hey showed the weight/height but from a purely self centered standpoint, I felt good. I've been watching my weight, and been on a weight loss program since September and I thought "I'm glad I can say I don't weigh xxx anymore" That's not to bash any of the ladies though. Most seemed to be very nice ladies, at least initially and they all put on the Ritz for the show.

I did like the blurb at the beginning about the average reality show star being a size 2, and the average woman is a size 14/16. I just hope that the weight issue will not be a huge "issue" on every episode. I mean, I hope it's not presented in a condescending or hurtful manner. KWIM

I didn't plan on watching but DH DVR'd it for us. I actuallly really connected with the girls and their lack of self confidence. So many of them are exactly like I was before I met my DH, thinking that no one would ever fall in love with me for who I am on the inside. I thought I'd be an old maid. I was always "the funny one" when I went out with my friends. They all got hit on, and I just made people laugh. So I really understand their pain. For that reason I actually hate to see any of them go. But, I hope that the ones who have to leave, will at least leave there knowing that there are good guys out there who will love them no matter what since now they have seen it in person.

This was my thought too. It seemed like everything that came out of their mouths was about their weight and how no one liked them because they were fat. It just made me really uncomfortable. I would like to see what these girls are all about on the inside and quit focusing on their weight.

I agree about the girl jumping in the pool. Talk about a desperate plea for attention!

I said the same exact thing. Do they post the weight of the people of other tv shows? I also hate the show Drop Dead Diva. Just the commercials for it sickened me. The girl dies and her pennance is to come back as a size 16 which I might add according to recent statistics is the size (14-16) of the average woman. I went to the DDD site and voiced my opinion and the majority of the commments were negative.

Is this the official MTL thread, then? I am watching the second episode on Fox since I missed it. One thing I noticed from the last episode is that Luke DOES NOT look like he's 330 lbs and the thinner women DO NOT look like they weigh under 200 lbs. He looks skinnier than 330 pounds and they look heavier than 170-200. I also noticed that each and every one of them is very pretty.

The previews look ... interesting. He looks like he is going to take some "liberties" and they look like they are going to take the opportunity to be skank biscuits.

I think that this show will undermine a lot of the good work done by America's Biggest Loser - the only reality TV show that I watch.

I have lost too many family members to obesity... :sad1:

Why? Because women might actually feel comfortable in a size 14/16 body instead of dieting and exercising their way down to a scrawny size 2 like BL's last winner? I am sorry for the losses in your family, but this show won't undermine anything except for people preconceived notions of what beauty can be.
