This is the quote I got from our friend as to where they want to eat at WDW. Can anyone help me out so I can take them to the right places?

This is all of our's first trip to WDW & they are coming from out of country so any help you can give me would be great!!

We have not eaten at Jiko (more $$$ and upscale), but we love Boma at the AKL. Lots of interesting flavors, and a huge buffet with lots of variety to make everyone happy :D !

Go to 'Ohana at the Poly. I have been to Hawaii, and this place does compare!!!! Great food and service!

I find Disney to be "unexotic" although I love to eat there. Restaurant Marrakesh in Morrocco would be an idea (though the food isn't terribly exotic). Sushi at Kimono's, California Grill, or Matsunoma Lounge. Jiko, Boma or Ohana. Artist's Point - while not "exotic" does generally offer some American wild game (which may be exotic to people coming from outside the US - buffalo, venison, rabbit, pheasant - come to think of it, its fairly exotic to most people within the US, we don't eat a lot of rabbit here). California Grill isn't exotic, but provides for interesting taste combinations and beautiful presentation.

Disney does do theme well. Great "theme" restaurants include the Coral Reef in Epcot (eat with fishes), Sci Fi Diner, 50s Prime Time Cafe (both in MGM), Rainforest Cafe (DTD or AK). The food at these places isn't "exotic" but the atmophere is.

Where are you coming from? Obviously, the Biergarten isn't going to be exotic to anyone coming from Germany, but may be right up your alley if you are coming from Japan (unless Japan has a lot more German restaurants than I imagine it having). Likewise, Jiko - possibly the most exotic choice for American's - is not going to seem terribly exotic to someone coming from South Africa.

Hi crisi! You had some good questions. My friends are from Israel, though the DH was raised in France. So French food would not cut it as "exotic". Due to conditions in Israel right now, they never go out to eat. When I gave them suggestions for DTD for after Cirque, they liked Bongos & RFC over the other choices. That's when they said "the more exotic the better". Previously, I had been looking at "safe" restaurants, but now I know I can have a little bit more fun in my research. :) I will not be making any PSs, as they are the make-it-up-as-you-go type. But since I have been "put in charge", I want to get all my research in and then maybe make reservations that morning when we know for sure what we are doing that day. Luckily we are going during the slow season so that should not be too much of a problem. :cool: Well, I hope that helps you & anyone else who wants to help me find "exotic" restaurants at WDW. :smooth: Thanks!

Marrakesh in Morocco is wonderful, and the entertainment is great too!

The reason they are plan as you go is because of where they are from, however plan as you go doesn't always work that way and as far as eating at Disney sometimes you can't get what you want because of lack of ressies. We do believe that Bongo's would be a good choice for your friends. This may be the one place that you don't need ressies for. We have eaten at Bongo's and the food is very good.

Jiko and Boma might be good restaurants to ressies may be a must for these or else you may be waiting a while to eat.

It may be relaxing for your friends to have a bit of a layed out plan at Disney, because the things that effect their lives at home thankfully will not be here.

Diane

Boma for sure if exotic is what you are looking for. I have eaten at Jiko but find Boma to have many more unusual dishes that can be tasted and tried. We just ate at Boma last week and it was my favorite meal at WDW this trip. They have chicken, beef, fish, vegetable dishes, salads, soups...all quite tasty and unlike anything else you'll find at WDW. They use many different spices and fruits in their dishes that most places do not.

I don't think 'Ohana is exotic at all but do like Marrakesh a lot too. I have heard the food there is not too authentic but to me, it is excellent. And the belly dancer only makes the dinner experience more pleasurable. ;)

Overall for exotic....I think Boma is a hands down choice!

Wow! You are all wonderful!!! Thanks so much for your input. For Marrakesh, does the dancer do lunch and dinner, or just dinner? (My friends may not plan ahead - but I sure like to) ;)

copper0426 (Diane) - I will probably make some PS's when it get's a bit closer to the actual dates, since I know that they can be canceled if needed. I probably won't tell them 'til we get there, as they may think I'm neurotic. :rolleyes: However, the DH did tell me they love to go on vacation with our family because I do plan ahead. :)

The dancer does lunch and dinner and this is one of the few WS restaurants where "winging it" is possible.

The WDW restaurants are limited in their "exotic" to appeal to the masses.

As others have listed, I'd try out:
* Marrakesh - easy to drop in
* Bongos
* Jiko/Boma
* Tusker House
* Poly Luau

If you can go offsite, try Bahama Breeze for Caribbean food and drinks.
