The Monte Cristo- Cafe Orleans vs Blue Bayou

I’ve seen posted that the Monte Cristo at Cafe Orleans is now a half sandwich with Pommes Frites for $21. Is the sandwich at the Blue Bayou a half order as well? It’s price is $29 so I’m wondering if the difference is for the size or the atmosphere. We usually share a couple of them for our family so I want to see if I should be planning a $60 or $120 dinner tab.

Pretty sure it's a full at BB. That plus BB being fancier accounting for the higher price.

You can also get a half with no fries for $10.99 at Smokejumpers Grill in DCA.
LOL that's quite the range of pricing for the same(?) sandwich.
Those of you who have been there -- how similar are the monte cristos between locations, other than the size?

I know at BB you can get one with only ham or only turkey (and I think also only cheese). They are pre-made, so you have to be ok that there was the other meat on your sandwich and they take it off…. If you order at SJ or CO, can you modify it this way? I looked at the app, and I can’t see that they allow any mods for the Monte Cristo when you order at those two places.

Just ate at Cafe Orleans a few weeks ago. It is two pieces there with pommes frites. They did not allow us to have it with only ham or only turkey, but they did have the only cheese option.

I was at BB on 10/24, the ones passing by our table looked like three pieces. Is that even possible? Maybe I was seeing another dish?

I can't speak for Blue Bayou but at Cafe Orleans it is a full sandwich. At least it was in August. During Taste of Disney at DCA right before the parks re-opened, we had the one at Smoke Jumpers and it was a half sandwich. They still advertise it as a half sandwich at that location.

I can’t speak for what you had in August.

But in June, Cafe Orleans was definitely serving the half sandwich with fries… and that is also what currently appears on the menu.

It is not advertised as a half sandwich on the Cafe Orleans menu (at least not their online menu) and is defiantly larger than the one we had at Smoke Jumpers which was/is advertised as a half sandwich.

🤷

Pre-covid, a Monte Cristo at Cafe Orleans was 4 pieces with seasonal fruit (usually grapes) and no fries.

Post-covid, the Cafe Orleans offering was(is) 2 pieces with fries.

Clearly Disney has redefined the sandwich.

Regardless of whether the menu defines it as whole or half, the Cafe Orleans offering is half of what it used to be. It has changed in such a way that a single person can order the Monte Cristo and get most of the way through it. Pre-covid, the standard advice for most appetites was to order one sandwich and one plate of fries for 2 people. That advice no longer works.

Is the Smokejumpers version just one wedge?

This makes sense. We only had the Monte Cristo at Cafe Orleans one other time. That was at Sweethearts Night in February 2020, just before the parks closed. Now that you mention it, I do recall it being much larger that night then the one we had in August. It does look like Disney changed the size of the sandwich. This also explains why Blue Bayou has the 3 piece version at a higher cost.

At Smoke Jumpers it was 2 pieces during the Taste of Disney but they were smaller than the 2 pieces we had at Cafe Orleans in August.

Goodness…this is confusing! But thanks for the help! I think I might try to get BB reservations and we’ll see! Now to set the alarm for 3 am. Ugh.
