The Moist Exhausting Free Trip Ever - Link to Part II Thread pg. 244

Hi Glenn, I am still busy settling into work and at home and just don't have much time for posting. But I still enjoyed reading your update very much and it seems that Katharina is providing the necessary German culinary comments! :goodvibes

I briefly looked into this baker's cheese issue and I am quite convinced that this is actually quark. This website talks about Milwaukee cheesecake which is made with baker's cheese and considering that Milwaukee was the most German city in the US, I think it talks about the typical German Käsekuchen. And these people produce baker's cheese.

You can still find Bakers Cheese here in Milwaukee, I don't think it is used much anymore. I wonder if my mom used bakers cheese she used to make a type of cheese torte that was to die for. Of course since she has passed my dad in his wisdom decided to throw out all her cookbooks!:sad2:

This shop is in West Allis, Wisconsin a suburb you would say of Milwaukee. You can order it on line even.

You can find all kinds of cheese here in Wisconsin. We are after all known as the dairy state. :goodvibes
Mmmmm..... cheese!!!!

But when I sat and looked at the beverage options at Biergarten, I knew that there was something of which Jordan would approve: a beer flight. I imagine if he were there with me he would have wanted to buy it, gift card or not.
::yes:: It's PERFECT! :thumbsup2

Crikies! Those aren't little sampling glasses - those are full-on servings o' beer! :yay: How were they?

Oh, I just realized that you’ve been wondering about Judy’s stomach this whole time, haven’t you.
Yes... :scared:
She did fine. She had gotten over her case of space sickness enough to enjoy the meal without any issues.
PHEW!

Great use of your gift card!:thumbsup2
Haven't been to beirgarten in years, might have to give it a try again if for no other reason than to see the musicians in their sexy tube socks.:lmao:

Oh yeah, that's disappointing I'm sure. I can't think of what item it is right now, but there was something that my wife's grandmother used to make that, even with her grandmother's recipe, neither Judy nor her mother can get it to turn out like her grandmother made it. They think that there's some secret ingredient that she kept to herself.

You do your state proud loveall! I did click on that website and found that they can ship baker's cheese by mail.

He'd approve!

Crikies! Those aren't little sampling glasses - those are full-on servings o' beer! :yay: How were they?

They were a little smaller than normal, but it was a fair amount all together. Somehow I finished them all before I got to dessert. (Dessert and beer =

)

They were good! I think I liked the middle ones best...I probably haven't developed a taste for really dark beers yet.

Yes... :scared:

PHEW!

Yes, fortunately it wasn't an "out of commission all-day" kind of thing.

Great use of your gift card!:thumbsup2

Brings back memories of dodge ball in junior high gym class! (Why those guys were wearing lederhosen in gym class, I have no idea.)

Okay, I gotta say...this was one of my favorite updates. Because it's all about food, glorious food.

We left Maelstrom wondering what Norwegian mysteries eluded us, not being able to see the film. “Det kan forbli et mysterium for alltid.” (Hint: punch that into Google Translate, Norwegian to English.)
What did you just call me?

We loved this restaurant last year, and other than Boma, which is always a ‘must do’, it was the only restaurant that we unanimously wanted to repeat.
I have to say...even as a vegetarian...I love this restaurant too!

Below is a picture of my first plate, consisting of light fare…salads and such, which hardly warrant being counted at all. So maybe I’ll call my next plate “my first plate” since this one hardly counts.
I'm with you. Totally understandable.

You can also see the lovely beer flight all lined up for me. Looks like one sip is missing -- Uli!!!
He said he was new...maybe he doesn't know that he's not supposed to sample food and beverages from the guests' plates?

While they played, I went to do a little more sampling of the buffet. Since this was merely more sampling, I count this as just a continuation of my first “real” plate.
Also understandable.

If I didn’t know better I’d say it’s kim chi, but I highly doubt that.
Good thinking.

The accordion guy looks like he’s blowing into his microphone. Either it’s a sobriety thing to start the accordion or he’s making the alphorn sounds and the other guy is just lip-syncing.
Oh. My. God. :rotfl:

You’ll be happy to know that I only made one trip to the buffet for dessert. (Although I did grab a regular-sized plate for efficiency!) We have rote gruetze with vanilla sauce, Bavarian cheesecake, apple strudel, blackforest cake, and a blueberry thing (you can sure tell when I hit an item that isn’t listed on the allears.net menu listing, can’t you).
I'm neither happy nor angry about your one-stop shop at the dessert bar. Maybe confused is a little more accurate.

Again, we loved Biergarten. Two thumbs up!
You and me both, buddy.

Oh, I just realized that you’ve been wondering about Judy’s stomach this whole time, haven’t you.
Oh, that? Oh yeah, right. Heh heh. I was pretty worried about her, especially during the second sampler plate.

When he came back to the table I saw that he had to charge my credit card for 25 cents! Poor Uli…sorry about that!
Dude, you suck.

Up next: Bathrooms and Lost and Found
I LOVE bathroom stories! Hooray!

That's what we did last year, but this year we opted to skip Soarin'. I know, you can't believe it. We've ridden it enough that it's okay to skip now. We wanted to spend more time on new things.
I, too, have been known to skip Soarin' (even though I do love it). I think this means we are destined to be misunderstood.

I am totally happy to know a bit more about Sum (Some) of All Thrills. The concept had intrigued me. But now I know it's not worth waiting long for.

I'm glad Judy recovered! My mom can't go on MS, either. For me, it's orange side all the way.

Biergarten looks awesome on the inside. Someday I'll have to go there, if I can get over the whole buffet thing. I do enjoy sausage, after all.

Something about "mysterious scarf woman" I think.

I have to say...even as a vegetarian...I love this restaurant too!

I must admit, I'm kind of surprised at that.

I'm with you. Totally understandable.

Good to know you're on my side on this one.

He said he was new...maybe he doesn't know that he's not supposed to sample food and beverages from the guests' plates?

Hope I don't get any new bank tellers.

Also understandable.

Yes, why must we always count how many plates?

Good thinking.

I still have no idea what that stuff was.

Oh. My. God. :rotfl:

:)

I'm neither happy nor angry about your one-stop shop at the dessert bar. Maybe confused is a little more accurate.

I know, I know....I should have saved more room.

You and me both, buddy.

Okay, so that's at least four thumbs up. Are you keeping track of this?

Oh, that? Oh yeah, right. Heh heh. I was pretty worried about her, especially during the second sampler plate.

Man, you weren't kidding when you said "it's all about food, glorious food".

Dude, you suck.

I didn't know how much was left on the reward card!

I LOVE bathroom stories! Hooray!

Do I know my audience or what?

I, too, have been known to skip Soarin' (even though I do love it). I think this means we are destined to be misunderstood.

I think you're right...especially on these forums.

I am totally happy to know a bit more about Sum (Some) of All Thrills. The concept had intrigued me. But now I know it's not worth waiting long for.

It's worth a try, but yes, don't wait long.

I'm glad Judy recovered! My mom can't go on MS, either. For me, it's orange side all the way.

I think Orange is way better than Green.

Biergarten looks awesome on the inside. Someday I'll have to go there, if I can get over the whole buffet thing. I do enjoy sausage, after all.

"If I can get over the whole buffet thing."? Say wha? What's better than a buffet?

Glennbo,

I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed this TR. Thanks for the time and effort!

DH and I are two more who don't get the big fascination of Soarin'. It's nice but not earth shattering.

You should have gotten the big 1 litre of beer. That's what DH gets when we go and he's finished it both times!

Morning Glen! How are the kids adapting to the new school schedule? No more missed buses I hope ;)

:welcome: ntikos! Thanks for letting me know that you're enjoying it. There is time and effort involved, but it's a lot of fun corresponding with everyone who comments. You folks make it worth it.

DH and I are two more who don't get the big fascination of Soarin'. It's nice but not earth shattering.

Especially after you've been on it a number of times.

You should have gotten the big 1 litre of beer. That's what DH gets when we go and he's finished it both times!

Wow, I'm impressed. I don't think I have the constitution for that puppy. I don't want to hinder my ability to get to and from the buffet line.

Morning Glen! How are the kids adapting to the new school schedule? No more missed buses I hope ;)

Good morning Jen! They're doing well. From day 2 onward, everything's been fine.

How's your car?

Day 3 - Part 4

While we ate in Biergarten we made a plan for the afternoon. The girls needed to get over to DHS to audition for American Idol – not the normal auditions that occur every morning (I believe), but auditions for a PChef-only American Idol session that would take place the next night, when PChef had the park for the night. They needed to get there around 3pm, so we planned that we’d hit Test Track and use our fastpasses, and then they’d catch a bus to DHS. In the meantime, James and I would do “whatever”, eventually ending up at the Magic Kingdom to use his fastpasses for Buzz Lightyear.

We hoofed it out of the World Showcase, into Future World, and into the fastpass line at Test Track. After we got in line, Judy decided that she’d rather play it safe stomach-wise, and skip the ride this afternoon. She left and said that she’d meet us in the gift shop after the ride. So our car ride turned out to include the kids and I and two single-riders.

Photo0534.jpg

I learned on someone else’s thread that there’s a hidden Mickey in those Test Track photos and I had never noticed it before. I went back to look at last year’s pictures and sure enough, it was there then too.

Here are my shots from the ride. After all of the less-exciting tests, we finally accelerated toward “the barrier test”.

And then shot outside.

And the view in front of me.

A fun ride, as always.

We found Judy in the gift shop and she and the girls took off for the auditions. I wished them luck and told Judy to take lots of pictures for me.

Now it was just James and I. It was about time for a bathroom break, but I thought, “let’s not just go to any bathroom, let’s find Jordan’s favorite Epcot bathroom.” Since it is a touring destination all its own, I had researched how to find it before the trip. We walked over to the Journey into Imagination building, and as we approached the entrance, rather than going in, we turned right and walked around to the side of the building. We turned the corner and there it was. It was a surreal moment, let me tell you.

Here’s James, undoubtedly wondering why I asked him to pose in front of a bathroom.

IMG_2990.jpg

We went in and…..yuck! It was pretty poorly maintained. There were puddles of water and toilet paper on the floor. It was in desperate need of janitorial attention. No one other than us came in or out while we were there, and that’s pretty rare at a Disney park, so it had privacy going for it, but that was all. No "savoring the moment" here -- we took care of business and left. After I got back home I read on Jordan’s thread that he found it in the same condition back in February, so it has lost its status as his favorite Disney park bathroom.

After the disappointment of the condition of Jordan’s favorite bathroom, we left the park and took the monorail over to the Magic Kingdom. It was a trip I was destined to take the moment that cast member wrote James a fastpass for Buzz and I had to promise that we would return to the Magic Kingdom in order to use it. We entered the park and as we walked up Main Street I decided to explore a side street since we had some time to kill. The little alley was about halfway up Main Street, on the right as you’re walking toward the castle.

I didn’t take a picture of the alley, but I saw that FairyGodmotherJen posted one on her thread, and she has graciously let me borrow it. So, here’s her picture of that particular alley.

We walked to the end of the alley and could hear the sounds of tap dancing and muisc instruction being given, coming from this second floor window.

IMG_2992.jpg

An older couple was sitting on a bench nearby and wondered what in the world we were doing. They asked us if there was something up there. We told them what we could hear and they were amazed at all of the Disney details.

Okay, detour over, we made our way over to Buzz. We got in line and I realized that I had never taken a picture of the fastpass, and I needed to be thorough for my trip report, you know.

IMG_2993.jpg

James helped me get all situated again and put my sunglasses and case in a side pocket of my backpack.

Then we boarded the Buzz ride and started battling the Evil Emperor Zurg. The ride stopped at one point and in addition to allowing me to rack-up major points, I got a picture inside the Buzz ride. I’m usually too busy shooting Z’s to take a picture.

IMG_2994.jpg

Here’s me, Star Cadet, and James the Galactic Hero on the ride.

IMG_2996.jpg

I don’t remember my score, but it was way-high and I beat James, maybe for the first time. He usually beats me on that ride.

We left Buzz at about 4 o’clock so decided to hit Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor. I thought about saving it to do with Judy and the girls, but they’ve been on it before and we still had time to kill. It was fun, but I think that’s a show that can never be as much fun as your first time seeing it, when you’re amazed that the cartoons are interacting with the audience via Disney magic.

We left Monsters Inc and started walking to leave the park. I stopped to get my sunglasses out of my backpack and…they weren’t there. I looked and looked and couldn’t find them. James insisted he did, in fact put them in the backpack. They hadn’t fallen when he put them in the pocket. I was glad that I still had my regular glasses at least, but the sunglasses were also prescription lenses. We left the park and started walking to the buses when I decided that I’d never have a better chance to find them and that I should go to Lost and Found. So we turned around and went back through bag-check and the turnstiles and went to City Hall. We waited for our turn to talk to a cast member and I described what I had lost. Then she went to a back room to check if they had them.

While we waited I took a water bottle out of a side pocket on my backpack and took a drink. When I saw her returning I tried to put the water bottle back, but something was blocking the way…my sunglasses!

In that split-second I debated on whether to admit that I’d found them or to act all forlorn and say something like, “oh well, let me know if you find them”. :eeyore: You’d probably guess the latter, but no, I said, “they look a whole lot like this”, and held them up. “I just found them.”

Feeling dumber than usual
durr.gif
, but at least happy that I hadn’t lost my sunglasses, we left the park…again. I noticed that I had a text from Judy saying that they were heading back to the hotel after the girls’ American Idol auditions.

I texted her “how did it go?”

And she replied, “We will share when we see you.” Doh! A trip report teaser in real life!

I'm glad I have to stay longer at work today, otherwise I wouldn't have seen the update for the next three hours!

I like the little alley, too. Of course Magdelene showed it to me and we listened to the sounds, I wondered how many people really notice this little detail, if they are not told about it like I was...

So Monsters inc laughfloor won't be so much fun the next time I make it there? Waht a bummer.

the recipe is translated, but I want to convert all the grams to ounces, didn't find time for it yet.

I NEVER knew that bathroom was there by Journey. You learn something new every day on the DIS (too bad it is not kept up...probably because no one knows it is there and rarely uses it).

Glad you found the sunglasses (that must of been just a tad embarrassing).

I love that little alley way at the MK...Mark and I always take a break over there and listen to the tap dancing, etc.
