The Moist Exhausting Free Trip Ever - Link to Part II Thread pg. 244

This is the recipe I used as a child and teenager. I think I found it in a children’s magazine and I didn’t really copy the instructions, as it is quite easy and by the time I copied it into my recipe book, I knew how to do it. But for anyone with at least some practice in cooking/baking it should be no problem!

I know for some Germans this would not be a proper Käsekuchen, because of the lack of raisins. So, if you like them, you can put some in the filling.

Käsekuchen / German cheesecake
Springform tin with 26 cm / 10 in diameter

For the pastry:
250 g / 9 oz flour
1 egg
pinch of salt
3 tbsp sugar
100 g / 4 oz Butter

For the filling:
500 g / 18 oz low fat Quark
100 g / 4 oz sugar
4 egg yolks
4 egg whites
lemon peel

Make a short crust pastry of the pastry ingredients and let it cool.

Mix all the ingredients for the filling, except the egg whites.
Whisk the egg whites until stiff and fold them in the filling.

Roll out the pastry and line the form (base and sides) or distribute the pastry by hand. Pour in the filling and bake at 180 celsius / 356 fahrenheit until light brown on top.

And this is approximately a picture of what it should look like (thanks to Evelix / pixelio.de):

Awesome Katharina! That picture looks soooo gooood!

Okay, readers....if anyone makes this, we need you to post a picture of it.

he does seem to play up to the ladies.
 but in his defense, not to many guys gracing these parts, so i guess he doesnt want to honk off the other 99% of his readers.

Yeah, you noticed that there's a lot of estrogen on the TR boards? I guess I should be nicer to you and Marvin.

Nah! What fun would that be?

hey now, when did you meet up with her a second time.

jk:goodvibes

I was in a Chip costume.

Okay, I know I am a little late to this part of the discussion, but I just had the chance to go back through your latest update and really soak it all in. I already knew about the hidden Mickey in the TT photos, and I agree that it was probably done specifically to show up in the ride photos, but...........

You have another hidden Mickey in one of your other photos that nobody has mentioned. Can anyone else figure out where it is? If so, please don't spoil it for everyone else until they have had a chance to try and find it. Glenn, maybe you want to have an additional little contest to go with the Where is Judy-do contest for this one. Maybe everyone can PM you their answers.....if indeed anyone else can find this elusive HM. popcorn::

Since I already KNOW where it is, I won't play, :rolleyes1 but when the time comes let me know and I will send along my answer! :)

This is a little game Marv likes to play called, "Let's fill up Glennbo's PM box".

Just kidding, fire away people.

found it and PMed glenn the answer already:banana::cool1:

Correct answer, but.....you were not the first.

Good Luck! Can't wait to see Glenn's ruling since he is typically so generous with you! ;)

That's not what he says.

BTW, this isn't like some of your guesses on Liesa's pre-trip quizzes is it? :rolleyes1

No, he actually got it right!

Yes, please. And BEFORE my trip would be nice. ;)

Okay, I'm going to stop Replying and start a-typing. It's mostly done, but I need to do some clean-up.

The picture of the alley in MK is gorgeous! It looks like a painting. I didn't know that alley existed until I took the Keys to the Kingdom tour last year. Amazing how Disney thinks of all the fine details.

Another somewhat similar little hidden gem is in Animal Kingdom Tusker House. We were sitting in the outside seating area waiting to be seated for our lunch (we were there for the first seating of the lunch buffet and had to wait awhile for it to get set up). We could hear someone rattling around doing dishes coming from an upstairs window. I think you could hear water running periodically and maybe even humming while she was washing. I thought it was neat at the time and then forgot about it so the specifics could be off....

Sounds cool. I'll have to look for that next time.

Day 3 - Part 5

After some Disney magic made my sunglasses mysteriously reappear in my backpack, James and I again left the park and walked to the bus stop. We boarded a bus back to Coronado Springs and started off at about 5:15 pm. This bus had no air conditioning, except the roof vent. Talk about stifling. We got to Coronado Springs before we completely melted and on our way to the room we passed by the quiet pool. We saw that Judy was already in a lounge chair and the girls were enjoying cooling off in the pool, so James and I hurried to the room and got changed and joined them at the pool.

I got in the pool and asked the girls to tell me how it went. For the next 10 minutes or so, while neck-deep in water, the girls gave me the whole run-down and it went as follows. (I had the girls do these write-ups, and I edited them together so that you get the stereophonic experience that I received.)

**************************************************
Lauren

Mom had talked about the American Idol Experience at DHS the last couple days and I figured I might as well try out. What could it hurt? She had told us that the auditions were from 3-7pm and that she wasn’t sure what age you had to be to try out. Well, that day we got up and went to EPCOT for the morning. We went to Biergarten for lunch and then after that used our Fastpasses to get on test track. We went on it and while waiting to get on the ride I figured out which song I was going to sing. We had a fun time and when we got off, realized it was quarter of three. We panicked and ran all the way to the bus stop which picked us up ten or fifteen minutes later.

Marlene

First, some background knowledge is needed, when my mom got the brochure about the American Idol Experience - and all the other fun stuff you can do in Disney World – it said the tryouts were from 3:00 pm – some other time I can’t remember. We thought we had to be there at 3….. not much thinking going on there huh? Also, that day, we went to Magic Kingdom for the extra magic hours, only given to the PChef. By three-o-clock my mom, me, and my sister were in line waiting for the bus that would take us to DHS.

Dad input

The tryouts were for a PChef-only American Idol experience that would be taking place on Tuesday night, during the exclusive evening that PChef would have at DHS. Okay, back to our storytellers.

Lauren

On the way to DHS, Mom got out our park passes and we prepared to run to the American Idol building. By the time the bus got there it was ten after three and we were afraid that they wouldn’t let us audition. So, Mom told us to run ahead since she would just slow us down. With our luck, the bus stopped at one of the farthest places from the entrance. Thankfully, Marlene and I have young, long legs, so it wasn’t much of a problem. I went through the “no bags” line because I only had a water bottle and quickly Marlene was through the bag check. When we got up to the entrance to put our park passes in, we found that luck really wasn’t on our side. There was a parade going on and people were crowding everywhere all over the street. I quickly made a decision and told Marlene to follow me. I started booking it through the stores which were uncharacteristically not crowded. I figured everyone had gone outside to see the parade and were less interested in buying souvenirs. We soon got to the center of DHS and the parade was still going on. Plus, I had made the mistake of going on the right side of the street instead of the left. So, we had to go around the Mickey wizard hat to get to the front of the American Idol building.

Marlene

Once we were on the bus my mom told us to just get off and run (when the bus stopped) and she would catch up with us. So we did. Of course, whenever you need to get somewhere fast, there’s a parade blocking your way. This was no exception. Instead of running through the large crowd Lauren decided to go through the stores they have lining the streets.

Lauren

We ran up to a cast member and asked her if this was where the auditions were being held and she directed us down to the corner of the building near Star Tours. We talked to the two cast members there and they said that auditions were around the corner, but they weren’t sure if they were still letting people in. This didn’t help our panic and we booked it to a man under an umbrella near a gate. We asked him if this was where we were to audition and he said yes. He told us to catch our breath and asked us our ages. I told him I was sixteen and Marlene said that she was thirteen. Then he broke the news, you have to be fourteen to audition. Marlene was crushed. She started crying. He told us to go sit in the shade until Mom came because since I was a minor, Mom had to be there with us.

Marlene

Now imagine a rectangle and it’s were the American Idol Experience building is, we ran to the left side of that rectangle and the people there told us to go to the back end, so we did. Those people told us to go around to the other side, which is where the tryout line was supposed to be. There was no line. Worried, we ran to the man standing under an umbrella, it was very hot. The man asked our ages and told us Lauren could try out, and I could not. One thing was that Lauren needed an adult (mom) to come with her, so we went to a shaded area to sit and wait for her as I started to cry. In my defense, I was extremely tired, and singing has been a dream of mine since I can remember. It felt like my only chance had failed.

Lauren

Just then Mom strolls up and she immediately comforts Marlene and we walk up to the guy again. A man and his daughter had also arrived to audition. The man under the umbrella told us and the man and daughter how the audition process will work. The first audition is thirty seconds, a cappella. If you make it past that, then you sing two songs from a list that he gave me. Then he asked how old the man’s daughter was. They must have heard us talking because the girl looked at her dad rather than answer, he hesitated, and then said she was fourteen. I was mad because she was obviously not fourteen. Apparently they were singing together. We walked through the gate and up the ramp to the door of the audition part of the building. They had pictures of all the American Idol winners framed in stars on the wall to our right when facing the closed doors. Soon after waiting there, a lady let us in and we watched a recorded video of Ryan Seacrest encouraging us.

Marlene

No sooner did we sit down than I saw my mom coming to the rescue! Of course when she saw me she was worried that they wouldn’t let us in. After we explained the situation to her we went into the building. Inside, they show a video of Ryan Seacrest saying “good luck” and blah blah blah.

Lauren

Then, the lady had me go stand on a star on the floor near one of the two audition rooms. We were just kind of waiting there for the person auditioning before me to finish so that I could go. Marlene was still upset that she couldn’t try out herself when a cameraman named Frank came over. He asked Marlene if the tears were happy ones and she told him about how she was upset because she was too young to audition. He liked that she had a passion for singing and wanted to record her singing for the show the next night. She tried to calm down, but was still kind of a wreck so he told her he was going to shoot some other stuff and to be ready when he came back. We three were so excited for Marlene and we prayed that she would do well.

Marlene

They have two audition doors with judges inside to listen to tryout-ee’s. While we were standing and waiting to have Lauren go into a room, a camera man named Frank saw how upset I was and said “tears of joy, right?” I answered “no” and then my mom took over by telling him how we didn’t know there was an age limit and that I was too young. Then he said “well, if you’re that passionate about singing, I have to go film some awesome footage, and when I get back I want you to be calmed down and you can sing for the camera, like I said ‘I need awesome footage’” YAY! It wasn’t my last shot!

Lauren

Frank came back and recorded Marlene singing “Ice” by Lights. Then he went into the audition room. He came out and told us that he wanted the Judge to hear her just to give her advice and encouragement (an unofficial audition). So Mom and Marlene went inside and I stayed out and practiced my song. Frank asked me what songs I had picked from the list. I told him I would do “Part of Your World”. I wasn’t sure about the other one. He told me to pick one from the Rock and Roll and to have it picked when he came back.

Marlene

When he got back he gave me a mic, and found a good spot to film me in. After he heard me sing, he went into one of the tryout rooms and asked if I could have an unofficial tryout. I could, but Lauren wasn’t allowed to be there because she was going to try out for real.

Dad input

Marlene is being modest here. The way Judy told me, after she sang he said something like, “um, I think a judge needs to listen to you!”

Marlene

I sang for the judge whose name was Justin and introduced a singer he didn’t know of yet, LIGHTS Poxleitner. I sang the song “Ice” and he said many extremely complimentary things to me, like that he believes I could be a singer someday. This was very exciting. After that it was Laurens turn, I told her what he had said to me and told her good luck as we both got a little emotional, we hugged and she went in.

Lauren

Soon after that Marlene came out and told me that the judge told her she could be famous some day and that her voice was really good. I told her I was proud of her and started crying. Then I went into the room to try out. The judge’s name was Justin and he was really nice. He gave me a button with my name on it. We talked about a bunch of different stuff just to get me calmed down before I sang. I told him that my favorite class this past year was Honors Algebra II. And, I told him that I played flute in the band. Then I told him that I was going to sing “You’re Sixteen, You’re Beautiful and You’re Mine” by Ringo Star. He congratulated me on being the first person to ever do a tribute to Ringo since he’d been auditioning. I sang and he said that I had a beautiful soprano voice, just not what they were looking for and gave me a few pointers. He also complimented Mom (and Dad even though he wasn’t there) saying that they must be doing something right if their kids are as great as Marlene and me. Then, we left and on the way out Mom bought us ice cream.

Marlene

The whole time she was inside the room, I was outside praying that she would do well. When she got out we were both proud, sadly she didn’t make it, but it takes guts to be able to even get as far as we did and mom was so proud, that she bought us both ice cream. Of course, that whole time we had forgotten to get any pictures, but there’s always next year!

Dad input

I had not heard about the ice cream until now! James and I were good and didn’t buy any junk food.

**************************************************

Okay, back to regular trip reporting writing...
I was so happy that the girls had a good experience, even though they didn't get selected to be in the competition. I was afraid that it would turn out to be a disappointment. And I couldn’t believe that they forgot to take any pictures!

At least I could take a picture of their buttons.

IMG_3003.jpg

Let’s see, what else do my notes say about that evening? Oh the girls saw a dragonfly while they were in the pool and named him “Dr. Agonfly”. I don’t know where they get that.

We went to the Dig Site briefly so that I could try out the slide. It was good; probably not as good as Kidani’s slide, but good.

I beat James at foosball. Again. Heh heh heh.

Back at the room, we feasted on snacks, watched “Underdog” on tv, and were asleep by 9:30. It sounds early, but remember, we were at breakfast before 6:30 am.

At one point in the evening I was on an elevator with Lauren. (Oh, I think we had to grab some shoes from the room before walking to the Dig Site.) She was reflecting on her and Marlene’s auditions and she said, “I love my sister”. Now that's what it's all about!

No Judy's!

Darn, you're fast.

Great update, Glen. I give the girls all the credit in the world for even auditioning; I won't even sing at a bar. They should both be proud of themselves. And I love seeing sisterly love...it makes me :)

Good Luck! Can't wait to see Glenn's ruling since he is typically so generous with you! ;)

BTW, this isn't like some of your guesses on Liesa's pre-trip quizzes is it? :rolleyes1

Let's see how many adjectives ran through my mind about your girls:
sneaky (about the ice cream)
talented (from the judge's comments)
clever (Dr. Agonfly)
sweet ("I love my sister")

My oldest has tried out a couple times and hasn't made it through. Last year he tried out later in the day and they told him if he had tried out earlier they would have probably put him through. Evidently earlier in the day they are a little less critical until they find out whether or not they will have enough people audition to fill all their shows. My youngest son (being a typical younger brother :scared:) wasn't nearly as sympathetic as your girls were - Sean (my oldest) has won our local county Teen Idol contest, and the Jr College he went to had an Idol contest that he won - so he went in thinking this would be a piece of cake :sad2: I guess he didn't stop and think that WDW can draw from a much larger pool of talent than our little rural county and his local jr college . Mark (my youngest) thought it was funny that he was turned down:headache:

And since I've name the 1st & 3rd boys - the middle one is Ryne :dance3:

No Judy's!

I can always count on you Marvin. You get all the points for this round, no matter what excuse Faunt may try to push through in a few moments.

Darn, you're fast.

Well, you shouldn'ta oughtta done that!

The first responder was in a different time zone, so she had a few hours on you.

darn it marv, i cant win anything around here.

Oh, I can imagine how that would go..."First my dad made me take a picture of him doing terrible karate moves in front of the Chinese Laundry shop at DHS. He almost fell over, his karate's so bad. Then, at Epcot, he took a picture of me standing in front of a bathroom. Someone, please send help."
